Pupils and staff at Salen Primary were delighted to hear we have been awarded a Sport Scotland Gold Award for achieving excellence in physical education and school sport. The staff found out on Friday but we decided to keep it a secret so we could announce it at the start of our Commonwealth Games Week.
All the children in the school have been split into 4 teams – Jamaica, Scotland, Ireland and Canada. Each day the pupils will compete in a Commonwealth Sport to earn points for their team. Our sports committee have helped to plan the week of events.
On Monday morning each team got together to create an identity. In the afternoon we had a team parade followed by our athletics events – hurdles, sprints, standing long jump and javelin. It was a close competition with very few points between the teams.
We have round robin unihoc, tag and badminton competitions still to come. Our week finishes with the closing ceremony on Friday. The children, staff, parents and friends will walk round the Forestry Loop above the village. We are all looking forward to a Sport filled week!
Well done Salen! It doesn’t surprise me that you’ve gained gold and I love the Usain Bolt lightning pose from the Jamaican team. Best wishes to you all and I hope staff and pupils have a lovely summer holiday when it comes. Meall ur naidheachd agus deagh dhurachdan o Miss NicPhail.
