Rothesay Academy recently held an assembly in partnership with the Baird of Bute Society to announce the winners of The Inaugural Baird of Bute Canadian Scholarship. This scholarship has been organised by Mr Chris Markwell of the Baird of Bute Society, and will commence on the 18th of May for three weeks.
This years’ winners are Bonnie Caldwell and Joshua McFadden. They will spend three weeks in Canada and will be working with Professor Patrick Gunning at his lab in the University of Toronto.
Professor Gunning, who himself attended Rothesay Academy, is gaining global recognition in finding a cure for cancer. Bonnie and Joshua will also spend time at St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto and the Ontario Science Centre.
Depute Head teacher, Mrs Louise Nicol has liaised with Mr Markwell and the Scottish Government in order to help organise the scholarship said “We are very excited – this is a fantastic opportunity for Bonnie and Joshua. The Baird of Bute Society’s motto is ‘to inspire to aspire’ and this something many of our pupils can aspire to in the future and which I hope they will take inspiration from
