Ahoy, Matey!

Avast Ye!
It is a pirates theme in the nursery. We have been making some amazing parrots and designing our own treasure maps. We all discussed how we could transform our role play area into a pirate ship. We have made the front of our ship from cardboard boxes, a large steering wheel for our captain to stand at the helm and some anchors for when we want to hunt for treasure. Some of us have been lucky to find sparkly gems hidden in the sandtray. Jake and the Neverland Pirates has been a popular game on the Smartboard, where we have helped Jake and his crew find treasure.
In literacy time we have explored the ‘p’ sound- pirate, princesses, pig, pork chop and pizza were some of the suggestions. We used our floorbook to talk about and draw pictures of things that start with ‘p’. Some children noticed that a ‘p’ could look like a ‘d’ if we turn our heads. Our young buccaneers will investigate more next week.

Fun in the Snow

Yesterday Primary 2 and 2/1 had lots of fun in the snow. We built snowmen and investigated how the snow looked, felt and tasted. We made predictions about how long our snowmen would take to melt. Most people thought the snow on the ground would melt quicker than the snowman. Here is a picture of what was left of the snowmen this morning!

Share Aware – NSPCC Campaign

On 9th January 2015 the NSPCC launched its Share Aware campaign to encourage parents/carers of children from 8-12 years to have conversations with their children about safety online. Having conversations from a young age can help build trust and openness and get preventative messages across. However, many parents feel confused by the internet and out of their depth in understanding what their children are doing online and what the risks might be. The Share Aware campaign aims to give parents the tools to feel confident to have these conversations. Please take a look at the Share Aware site. A link has been added to “Links for Parents”.

Primary 3a Calendars

Primary 3a have been getting messy this week making some beautiful calendars to take home to family and friends. We used our fingers to create our “Four seasons tree”, concentrating on what a tree looks like during each season. The children are looking forward to giving these as gifts to someone special at home.

Primary 3 Mini Pots of Care

Last week in Primary three, we planted daffodil bulbs to raise money for Marie Curie nurses. We decorated pot covers too so they look bright and colourful and are taking them home to look after them. Here’s hoping we manage to grow beautiful flowers and raise a few pennies for a very worthwhile cause!

Primary 1 Story Street Open Afternoon

On Monday 22nd December primary 1 invited Mums and Dads to school to share their learning. Over the last few weeks Primary 1 have been helping story book characters find new homes and through activities children were able to learn about those characters and their books. The children then shared these learning experiences with their parents. We all had a great afternoon, thank you all for coming.
