Primary 3b – Young Writer
A very excited Grace Curivan was awarded a prize in the Primary 3 category at the recent West Lothian Young Writer Awards Ceremony at Howden Park Centre. Her piece of writing “Braw Beastie” was about her mappie (rabbit) called Mr Cotton Bahookie. She was presented with a medal, two animal books and a book token. We are all very proud of you Grace.
Primary 3b – Perseverance Assembly
The value of the month for June is perseverance. At our class assembly we shared our learning about perseverance with the infant classes. We demonstrated how we have shown perseverance both at home and in school and how some famous people have had to show perseverance to reach their dreams and goals. We performed a drama of the story of Mary Jones, the little Welsh girl who learned to read, saved her pocket money for six years and walked for 26 miles to buy her own copy of the bible. We also told the story of the three echidnas who climbed Everest. The audience enjoyed singing “Don’t Give Up” along with Bruno Mars and the Sesame Street characters. We thoroughly enjoyed our final assembly of the session.
We are back!
We’re back after exploring James Young High School. We have learnt so many new things like what our subjects are, who our teachers and buddies will be and our way round the building. We also met new friends and got to know the people in our tutor groups. Some of us were a bit anxious about getting lost but our buddies were very good at showing us the way round the different departments. On the Tuesday some of us were confident enough to stand up and speak about our experiences in front of all the S1 pupils! We are very proud of this. We are now even more excited about going to High School!
Dance workshops
We really enjoyed our dance workshop with Next Step Dance today. We had an opportunity to learn a fun hip hop dance routine which even included some free styling! We then got to create our own catwalk where we chose how we wanted to move or dance down the catwalk!
P7 induction days at JYHS
This is a little reminder for Primary 7s who are off to James Young High School for their induction days tomorrow and Wednesday. All pupils must arrive at school at 8.25am to walk down to JYHS with their class. All pupils must wear full school uniform and bring a packed lunch, a pencil case and PE kit.
It is going to be an exciting and busy week for the P7 pupils!
Responsibility in P3a
At assembly this morning, we taught the nursery children, P1s, 2s and 3s all about the value of RESPONSIBILITY.
We have spent the last couple of weeks learning all about responsibility and working hard to share our learning with the rest of the infant classes.
We showed pictures we had drawn of us being responsible at home, showed photographs of us being responsible in school, sang a song and performed a drama of the story of The Good Samaritan.
Miss Robertson and other teachers around the school have complimented us for doing such a good job and we’re very proud that we taught everyone all about our Value of the month.
Perseverance in Primary 3b
In preparation for our class assembly on ‘Perseverance’ we had a special visitor this week. Darren Philip from Livingston United Parish Church came into school to tell us the story of Mary Jones and her Bible, the Three Echidnas who conquered Everest and the story of Saul. We can’t wait to share our learning with the infant classes on the 12th of June.
Researching in P3
As part of our Romans topic, we have been working in groups to research different aspects of Roman life. The “mini topics” that we were looking into were food and drink, clothes, houses, school, buildings, leisure, Gods and Goddesses and inventions.
We used our non-fiction reading skills to look in books to find interesting facts and then practiced note-taking by writing down the information we found. Then we used these notes to make our own non-fiction posters, leaflets and booklets to share the information with everyone else. We then presented our information to our classmates – we were the teachers!
We really enjoyed being responsible for our own learning and sharing what we discovered with everyone. This was a super way to finish our topic on Romans.
