We have completed our work on our Scots poems about animals. The children showed great dictionary skills to find some Scots words for them and used a variety of descriptive words. We have now put them up in the classroom as part of our ‘Bonnie Scotland’ display.
Wow what a braw wee party we had on Tuesday in P4. We had a Ceilidh dance, a variety of musical performers and some speeches in the Big Hall. When we went down to the small hall for our Burns Supper we had the poem ‘Ode to a Haggis’ and the Selkirk Grace. Our meal consisted of soup, followed by Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. For dessert we had our Shortbread which we had made the previous day with Mrs Warren.
Jo from Forth Fisheries came in on Friday to deliver 250 trout eggs to our tank in the classroom. We will be looking after them for the next few weeks as they hatch into Alevin and then become Fry. We will then be releasing them into Murieston River.
The SSPCA (Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) have been in to see all our classes this week. They have been able to tell us about all the good work they carry out and what to do if we come across injured animals. We carried out a variety of actiities with them to learn and they were also able to answer many of the hundreds of questions that the children had for them.
In P4 we have been learning about Hindus. This week we learnt about places where Hindus worship and Hindu Temples. We made some models of Hindu Temples using a variety of consruction materials. It was great fun.
As part of our Scotland topic we have created some beautiful thistles. The Thistle is Scotland’s national flower. We use chalks, crayons and collage.
We have learnt so much about St Andrew. We created leaflets all about it. Some of these will be sent to India to teach them all about our patron saint.
We created a map of our woodland, using only materials we found there. We created poems about some of the trees and we made our very own cocktail perfumes.
