Primary 4 have been enjoying learning Kurling this term. This is a version of Curling played without ice. Each stone rolls on ball bearings. It has given the children the opportunity to learn new skills and develop good tactical awareness. Great fun was had by all.

Last week, Primary 4 went on their trip to Edinburgh. At the castle we met Mary Queen of Scots who prepared us for our Stuart party. We found out how boys and girls would have lived during her reign, dressed up in suitable clothing and learnt a dance. At thePalace of Holyroodhouse  we learnt about Mary’s life at the palace and saw the place where her secretary Rizzio was murdered. We also learnt about how members of the royal family have used the palace since. Both classes had the opportunity to explore the Royal Mile when travelling between the two locations and we saw John Knox’s house.

P4 Make Vegetable Soup!

The P4 classes led by Mrs Warren had the chance to make vegetable soup as part of our Healthy Eating topic. The children learnt how to chop carrots, onions and potatoes safely. We then added everything to  the schools new slow cookers and were then able to eat our soup before the end of the day. Yummy!

A very special bus came today from the Royal Zoological Society. Children from both P4 classes, as well as the Eco Group, had the opportunity to go on board the bus and learn about Scottish Wildcats and Beavers.

On the first floor their was a variety of activities aimed at learning about the plight of wildcats. There are only about 400 left in the wild.

On the top floor, the children learnt all about the trial release of beavers in Scotland and the pro’s and con’s of having them. They had a variety of challenges to complete about them include footprint identification and dam building.

P4 and P5 at the woodland naming ceremony

The name of the woods next to school has finally been revealed. The two year groups came up with lots of ideas and the Woodland Trust team picked ‘Wonderful Williamston Woods’. You can now see the new sign at the woods.

We all got to have celebratory snacks and ‘champagne’ afterwards. We also got to carry out an art activity, creating a colour pallete from items we found in the woods. A fantastic morning in all. A big thank you to the Woodland Trust team for organising these events for us.

Comic Relief

Primary 4 would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped the school raise money for Comic Relief. Primary 4’s Comic Relief project The school has managed to raise over £1010 and we are still counting! The government has promised to double any money raised by schools so that means it will become more than £2000.

As well as red noses, Primary 4 sold loom bands and funny faces Hama Beads which we made ourselves. In addition to this there was a whole school competition to design Mr Taylor’s face for the day, won by Zoe from P3b (see photo). Everyone in the school dressed up on the day coming in with their funny faces.

There were some great acts in our talent show competition. The runners up were Holly, Rachel and Evie from P4a and the winners were Marek and Adam, from P6.

P4 Handball Festival

Well done to all the handball players. We had some great fun learning this new sport and playing against teams from Dedridge, St Ninians, Bellsquarry and Bankton. Everyone worked really hard and we managed to score lots of goals and win lots of matches too. Well done to everyone.
