P2/1 Home Learning Activities Thursday 13th Aug

Good morning P2, I hope that you all enjoyed your first day back at school, I know that I really enjoyed seeing all your smiling faces back in class. I’m very much looking forward to welcoming you back again on Friday.

I am attaching 3 short activities that I would like you to look at today. One is all about what you think makes a good friend. In class yesterday we talked about kindness and how we can spread some kindness to our new P1 class mates so know I would like you to think about how we can be good friends them and your new P2 class mates.

The other two tasks are focusing on yourself and your learning so far in school in P1 and outside of school. One of them is to draw a picture and tell me about 3 things that you all ready know about or can do really well. The other is then to set yourself some goals of things you would like to achieve this year.

I thought it would be helpful for you to think about what you are good at first before setting your goals.

If you are able to you can email in your work to the school office, or you can have a chat with me about it on Friday.

I hope you have a lovely day, see you tomorrow at 8:55!

Get to know me backpack

Good Morning to our new Primary 5G class.  I have uploaded a getting to know you activity in the files section.  You can either use the template or draw your own backpack.  Page 3 of the powerpoint gives you an example of the different things you can include.  You can upload this to Teams or just bring your ideas and we will discuss in class on Thursday.  We are really looking forward to seeing you at school.  As a reminder, you should arrive at Uphall at 8:50 am on Thursday 13th August at the front playground side gate and you will be directed into class.  Miss Gordon and Mrs Benzeval.

Return to School Update

Dear Parent /Carer

We hope that you and your family have managed to have a good holiday and that your child is excited about coming back to school. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone soon.

Here is a brief update on what communication you can expect in the lead up to your child’s return to school from Wednesday 12th August.

You will have received a groupcall message from WLC communication sent last week which sets out which days each year group will be in school over the first couple of days. It is available here: https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/back-to-school

You may also be interested in the Scottish Government advice that is informing our reopening arrangements. You can view this here: https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-preparing-start-new-school-term-august-2020/

Please note our ELC children will return on Wednesday 12th August. The ELC team will be in contact with further guidance to support a safe return. New starts will be contacted individually.

We are currently finalising details to reflect the updated Scottish Government guidance which will ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our children, staff and families. Specific information on new school procedures which will include arrival/pick up arrangements, personal belongings, uniform and more will be communicated this week as we know this is a particularly nervous time for everyone.

Our return to school is likely to be a challenging time for many and therefore we will be doing everything possible to ensure the wellbeing of all our children and staff is our central focus. We aim to balance academic progress with children’s social and emotional needs. We need to support our children to be ready to learn and recognise that this has been an unsettling period for all. Additional funding from the authority has allowed us to employ a further two teachers, Mr McGowan and Miss Swift, I know you will join me in welcoming them back to Uphall. We are also looking to recruit support staff which will enhance our recovery planning to meet the needs of all our children. A small group setting will be created to support identified children with Additional Support Needs. In line with Government guidance, we will continue with valuable interventions such as Nurture and Support for Learning.

Finally, it is also important to highlight that the return to school next week is not a return to normality. We must remain vigilant and continue to manage the risks of COVID-19.

Remember further information will shared in due course.

Enjoy the rest of your summer holiday.
