Primary 1

Primary 1 have had lots of fun learning this week.

We have been learning about 🧊 ice. How we can make ice, what we use ice for, how ice is made outside πŸ₯Ά and how to melt ice 🧊. To start with we made ice then put it in hot water, the ice melted before break time. The next time we put the ice 🧊 in very cold water and Β the ice lasted until after lunch time! We are going to do more experiments with ice next week.

During our own time some of us decided to be scientists πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬ mixing potions together Β πŸ§ͺ 🧫 . We had lots of fun exploring how different colours mix and what happens when we add a dry mixture.

During topic work we were learning all about Scotlands national animal, the unicorn πŸ¦„. We learned what the worth mythical means and created our own unicorn coat of arms.

All of Primary 1 took home a Credit union letter, to start saving with the school and to kick start it the school will add £1 to our accounts. When you open an account you get a bank book and a piggy 🐷 bank. Those who brought in their forms enjoyed going up to the school bank to deposit their money.

During outdoor learning we spent time in the outdoor classroom learning some outdoor games and building.

On Wednesday we all attended out pupil voice committee groups where we are helping to be leaders in the school.

Have a lovely ☺️ weekend!

Rannoch Class

This week has been full of wonderful learning experiences!

In literacy, the pupils explored stories through sensory activities and working on building their phonics skills using songs, visuals, and hands on resources. Everyone worked really hard on recognising sounds and practising blending at their own level.

In numeracy, we focused on practical, real – life maths. The children enjoyed counting activities, matching numbers, and exploring shapes through play based tasks. We used concrete materials and visual supports to help build confidence and independence.

We made great use of our outdoor learning session too with Ms. Nelson. The class loved exploring the school grounds, taking part in walks and engaging in activities that encouraged communication, teamwork, and problem solving. Being outside really supported regulation.

During P.E. we worked on gross motor skills, balance, and coordination through fun, structure games. The pupils enjoyed moving their bodies, practising taking turns and celebrating each others achievements.

We’re so proud of how well everyone engaged this week – lots of smiles, enthusiasm and great progress all round. πŸ™‚

Play & Digital Pupil Committee

In our committee group this week we discussed what’s going well in both digital and play in our classes, we also talked about what we would like to see in our classrooms going forward.

We made a two stars 🌟 and a wish πŸͺ„for each class. Using our collaboration skills to decide what our wish would be for our class. It was helpful to all about what other classes use digital for and how we play in class.

We talked about how we learn better when we are having fun 🀩 or playing together. This inspired us to make posters to put up around the school to remind everyone why play is important.

Sports leaders in P4/3

We are very lucky to have 4 sports leaders from West Calder High School who Β will be working with us for a block of multi sports. This is to help them to achieve their Level 6 Sports Academy. We have loved playing the warm up games and all the different stations they have organised for us. Β Today we focused on ball skills, throwing, catching, passing and working as a team.
Thank you.

Primary 4/3 celebrating Robert Burns

Robert Burns (1759–1796)

How Burns Night Boosts Scottish Tourism | Pillow Partners

On Friday, P4/3 celebrated Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. He was a famous poet and songwriter and known for writing in Scots. He wrote about nature, love, and animals, with famous works like “Auld Lang Syne”. His birthday is celebrated annually on 25th January (Burns Night) with suppers featuring haggis, neeps and tatties and his poetry. He was born in Alloway, Ayrshire, to a farming family and he often wrote about the lives of ordinary people. His work remains globally recognised!

Children enjoyed learning some facts about the life of Robert Burns, listening to highland music and had a wee taste of some Scottish treats including shortbread, tablet, oatcakes with cheese and (sugar free!) Irn-Bru.

Primary 1

Primary 1 have had lots of fun exploring den Β building skills. Working as a team we created some very unique dens. We had to think carefully about where to set our dens, what we would use and if the dens to survive a full day. This involved lots of collaboration and creative thinking skills, as well as lots of fun πŸ˜€

We have been enjoying our topic, Scotland, 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿and this week we have been learning about Robert Burns and in particular enjoyed the poem To a Mouse 🐭 . In PE we have also been learning some Scottish dancing, everyone has enjoyed this and showed good skills in learning the dances.

During outdoor learning we ventured to the local woodland area where our learning focus was on pH testing on natural objects, we talked about the pH scale and tried to predict where each item would sit on the scale.

After exploring the Bible story of Noah and the Ark this inspired our art activity for the week. We created painted rainbows 🌈 and added texture to them with cotton wool ⛅️. Β We thought about the story of Noah and how God wants us to listen to him even if others try to convince us not to.

A few of us have been suffering from colds and coughs this week but everyone has been such good troopers engaging in all learning activities. We hope everyone has a restful weekend to recharge for more learning next week.πŸ˜‰

TheLifeOfTay!

What a wonderful week in the world of Tay!

We have loved our time outside on the Field…we have run, and run!

We have also made our own purple octopus models…complete with googly eyes! They’re so cute, and we’re so proud!

Our pencil control, in class, is going from strength to strength and we’re loving our Shapes songs…but still love our penguins!

Monster Burgers Invade Ness Class

What a fantastic time we had during our Food Technology session. The pupils decided they wanted to make ‘Monster Burgers’ with scary faces and tasty teeth. Well done to all the pupils whoΒ  flipped their own burgers, used different food textures and sniffed and tasted everything, they cooked. A very responsible class who cleaned and tidied up after themselves.

Well done Ness Monsters πŸ™‚
