Primary 3 update

Primary 3 information | St Peter's Primary School

Primary 3 have had another busy week!  It’s been all go with Nativity practice well underway, Scottish Book Week, Catholic Education Week, Lunchtime & After school clubs and lots, lots more!

As always, our teachers are very proud of the hard work and commitment we have been showing to our learning and Miss Pritchard popped in to class to say how proud she was of the amazing progress we are making.  She was looking through our jotters and was blown away at the high quality of our work!

As a whole school we are focusing on ‘Wonderful Walking‘ throughout the school when transitioning from the classroom to different areas in the school and we are trying really hard to do this every time we leave the classroom.

Here are some photos of our Book Week Scotland and Catholic Education Week activities and Information Report Writing pieces…

Scottish Book Week in P1 M.

P1 M had a brilliant time with their Buddies in P7  who were excellent in showing the P1’s how to play number games on laptops.  P7 were super when explaining the games and P1 had such a great time they are looking forward to meeting up again.

This week was Book  Week Scotland and P1 M received a free Book Bug Bag with books and pencils from The Scottish Book Trust.  Mums , Dad’s and Carers were invited into school to enjoy reading some of the books and join in with activities about the books.

The children then enjoyed hot chocolate and biscuits.  Thank you to the Scottish Book Trust for the wonderful gifts.

Some pupils in P1 M and P1S  joined in with Playdough Club .  They had great fun creating their own playdough, mixing it up , and talking about the colours, texture and the smell.

Have a great weekend !

P2 Weekly update 17.11.23

It has been a jam-packed week in P2 this week.

We have been marking Catholic Education Week with the theme ‘Pilgrims of Faith’ and thinking about what we can do to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

We have taken part in Money Week.  We used the MoneySense online resources  – Where does money come from?  We met the Jackson family and leaned all about  where they get their money.  We also played Money Bingo to help us identify all UK coins and notes.

We created rain gauges for our weather topic and will monitor the rainfall next week.  What’s the chances we have a really dry week now!

The highlight of the week was, without a doubt, hot chocolate with some very special people for Scottish Book week.  It was fun watching the grown ups (including the staff) scratch their heads over the tangram maths puzzle in our special Read, Write Count book bag!  Thank you to everyone who was able to join us.

And finally the obligatory wooden spoon pick!  Special mention goes to Jake for his double sided Spiderman/Peter Parker.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and warm up those vocal tones as nativity practice begins next week!

Primary 5 this week…

Wow what another busy week we have had in Primary 5!

We have started our subtraction in numeracy and everyone has been putting in so much effort with our new topic! Keep it up!!

In writing, we were researching our own topic for our Information Reports using our class technology and will be writing our reports on Monday!

It was Book Week and we had lots of activities relating to this. We made book character wooden spoons and we may have contacted a couple of famous people to show them off to them!! Everyone did so well with this activity and all the spoons looked amazing!!!

It was also Catholic Education Week – ‘Pilgrims of Faith.’ Everyone researched a Saint they were interested in, some of the Saints were St Margaret, St Ninian, St John Ogilvie and St Bernadette. Everyone completed some great research and it was amazing to hear their different reasons for who they chose to look into. We then spent some time reading about St Margaret as the 16th of November is her Feast Day. We learned some very interesting facts!

Thanks for another amazing week P5!! Have a great weekend 🙂

An Update From Primary 7

What a quick week it’s been on Primary 7, although time does fly when you’re having fun…

This week in maths we have been consolidating our learning topic of multiplying a 3, 4 and even 5 digit number by a 2 digit number. We have been working well through our Math No Problem books and are looking forward to moving onto division next week.

In literacy, we have been gathering evidence to include in our own information report about animals, endangered, living or extinct which ties in nicely with our topic which we have partnered with 5 Sister Zoo where we are discussing various animals.

This week is anti-bullying week which made for some interesting discussions around relationships and safety. We looked at some agree or disagree situations where we were able to discuss our emotions and regulation strategies.

For world book day we created our favourite book characters on wooden spoons. Take a look at our work.

What a great week for Primary 7. It is a pleasure to teach everyone in this class. Keep up the good work.

P6 have had a busy week

Primary 6 who have had a busy week! After our author in the hall visit, we continued our Book Week by making  Book character wooden spoons – the ideas and creativity of which were fantastic. We also continued with our Talk Money activities following our visit from the Credit Union and found out all about how to spend digital money safely online. We then designed posters to show our learning.
In other work we have been learning about Numeracy in Graphs and have been talking about the Classroom in French. We’ve started our new writing topic – Information Reports – and will soon be writing a report about our topic – The Solar System. Well done P6.

Catholic Education Week 2023

Catholic Education Week 2023

Today marks the beginning of Catholic Education Week.  It starts each year on the Feast of St. Margaret of Scotland (this week – 16th November) until the Feast of St. Andrew (30th November).

The Catholic Church in Scotland encourages schools, parishes and other agencies to work closely together in order to celebrate the successes of Catholic education particularly during one week each year.  Catholic Education Week highlights the significance of education, not only for our children, but for society as a whole.

This year the theme for Catholic Education Week is “Pilgrims of Faith” and children across the whole school will explore this in different ways.  They will be introduced to the Catholic understanding of saints and how they continue to influence our lives as models of holiness.  They will discuss examples of saints and how they could be preserved as role models in our journey to draw closer to God.  They will identify ways we can be followers of Jesus in our daily lives.  Children will also focus on the meaning of “pilgrim” and “faith” and learn that a pilgrimage is a journey to a holy place and a person who makes that journey is a pilgrim.  To have faith means to have belief and trust in God and faith is a gift from God.

CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK PRAYER
Jesus our Teacher,
in your love for us,
help us to develop our own talents
so that we may become like you
and lead lives of goodness.
Bless all learners
and all teachers.
May our Catholic schools continue to serve our families,
our communities and our country.
Help us, through our learning,
to believe in you
and to celebrate the life of your Church.
Help us to grow in holiness
as we grow in friendship with you
and try to become saints.
We make this prayer
in the name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen

An author comes to call at Book Week at St Mary’s

Primary 6 and 7 had a visit from an author today to kick off what promises to be a fun and exciting book week at St Mary’s! Writer Emma visited our school to share how she became an author and what it’s like to get your fiction and poetry published.

She shared how she writes from her own experiences, why she keeps all her ideas in a diary, and how perseverance (one of St Mary’s School Values) is the reason she has become a successful author and poet.

After an interesting talk, P6 and 7 asked lots of questions about how to become a writer.  However, the main message from Emma was to follow our dreams, no matter what they are, as perseverance will take you far!
