Rannoch News

We have had a lovely sunny week in Rannoch. We have enjoyed time outside on the field and on the Trim Trail.

In class, we have moved on in our learning to begin to understand about different sizes and how to put them into order from biggest to smallest. We have also been learning about big, bigger & biggest…and small, smaller & smallest.

In our phonics studies we have learned lots about words beginning with the letter ‘l’ and the difference in the sounds of ‘l’ and ‘L’

A super week and we are looking forward to our long weekend!

The fun continues…

We have had to drag ourselves away from the camp fire tonight, where we sang songs, told jokes, played games and toasted marshmallows, to head up for supper. Roll on more hot chocolate. What a fantastic day two at camp. We can’t seem to wipe the smiles of our faces. Sun is shining, which made our raft building and catwalk activities even more enjoyable. All before we filled our bellies with sausage rolls, bean, and more. Not an empty stomach in sight. Then more activities. Night line, bushcraft and leap of faith finished off our day.  Good, fantastic, teamwork, great, fun, enjoyable, creative are some words we have used to summarise our day.

Primary 2

Primary 2 had a very exciting week last week…here’s a wee snippet of some of the things we got up to!

Structure of the Earth

As we have recently began our new volcanoes topic, we began with looking at the structure of the earth and tectonic plates in order to discuss how volcanoes are formed. We tied this lesson in with STEM and used our collaboration skills to create our own playdoh; discussing how the ingredients mix to form a new solid. We formed our playdoh earths by layering each part with each colour representing the inner core, outer core, mantel and the earth’s crust.

Volcano Texture Artwork

As part of our volcano topic, we looked at the different textures of a volcano. We used adjective to describe textures; we thought the lava might be smooth and soft but the volcano would be rocky and rough. We explored a range of textures and chose which ones we though would best suit our volcanoes. Using our creativity and fine motor skills, we created amazing masterpieces!

Eatwell Buffet

We developed our knowledge of the wellbeing ‘healthy’ by learning about the Eatwell Plate. We discussed each category and why it is important to have a healthy diet. Using our new found knowledge, we explored the buffet and filled our plates with the aim to have a food from each of the food groups shown on the Eatwell Plate!

Primary 1

Welcome back after our Easter Holidays. We all enjoyed sharing with the class what we got up to during the holidays.

We had a super outdoor learning session this week in the school garden 🪴 We participated in a sensory treasure hunt, exploring the smells and feels in the garden.

In RE we picked the story of Jonah and the Whale 🐳. We all have a good understanding of the rules we have to follow and that grownups have to follow rules as well. We talked about how we all can make mistakes but it’s good to say sorry and God always forgives us. We made Jonah and the Whale 🐳 models to remind us of this.

In numeracy and maths we have moved on to learning fractions, our focus will be making 1/2 of different shapes and to challenge

different amounts. Two parts make one whole.

Primary 1 have had a fantastic first week back and are looking forward to our last term in Primary 1.

Rannoch News

We have enjoyed a lovely sunny week in Rannoch class.

We have learned about the initial sound ‘e’ and have begun to work on recognising numbers that are more than, and less than, one number.

In our Arts & Craft time we have created a wonderful 3-D whale  glitter poster….and have enjoyed playing in our marine shore tuff tray!

We have also been practising brushing our teeth after lunch to keep our mouths clean and healthy.

Primary 1

Last week before the Easter holidays and we made the most of it in Primary 1.

We had a great day for our very first school trip. We have been learning about Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and in particular castles 🏰 and we were very excited to get the chance to visit the capital and get inside a real castle.
Just going on the bus 🚌 without our grown ups from home was a real adventure. Some of us were very nervous but we were very brave. Everyone should be proud of themselves.

We all had lots of fun exploring the castle and looking out at the views from it.

On Friday we made Easter 🐣 nest cakes. We had lots of fun using our collaboration skills to work together.

Happy Holidays

Rannoch News

We have enjoyed a lovely sunny week in Rannoch class.

We worked hard on our understanding of the initial sound ‘f’ in our Literacy studies and also revised our awareness of our daily routines. We looked at our morning routines at home, our daily routines at school and also our evening routines at home after the school day.

We have also played with our friends on the field and enjoyed time in the sensory room.

We have had a lovely term and learned so much!

We are looking forward to a hopefully sunny break and then to rejoining our friends.

NYCOS Choir in P4

Over the past few weeks P4 have been loving our sessions with the NYCOS choir. We have been learning musical skills through songs and games. We have been learning to keep the beat by singing and passing or bouncing a ball to the beat. We have been learning how to follow hand signals to sing a tune and to sing at the correct pitch. Each hand signal represents a note and we are able to sing a tune following the hand signals. We have also been learning simple note annotation and following a set of  pictures. We have really enjoyed our sessions and we are learning so much.

P4 art

Over the past weeks we have studied our local community and learned about the different ways in which the surrounding land is used. We have learned that the land is used for recreation such as parks, football fields and the 5 sisters zoo, agriculture which we learned is farming and it is also used for Community Development, which is new houses, the new West Calder High School and the community garden. One very significant landscape we have in our local community

is The 5 Sisters Bings. We looked at how they were formed and we know that they are man made through the Shale industry. We went outside and photographed the hills. We then used those photographs to make our own sketches. We used pencils to create our own drawings.
