Primary 2

Primary 2 are now at the end of their volcano topic. As we are nearing the end of our topic, we were learning all about lava. We learned why it is the colour it is, how lava is formed and if rocks shoot out of it. We then created our own lava slime and wrote a procedure piece on how we made it 🟠

Primary 2 have engaged in Rookie Rockstars this week! We have had fun learning songs and preparing for our own concert. 🎸

This week primary 2 have also been preparing to showcase our learning of volcanoes in our assembly tomorrow morning! We hope to see our parents and careers there if you can make it along 🌋

Primary 2 Health Week

Primary 2 have had an awesome health week. We have had the opportunity to try different sports through taster sessions. We have tried sports and fruits that we have maybe not tried before. We have used our collaboration, perseverance, safety, and friendship skills this week. We even ended the week with a party and some health art. Big thank you to everyone involved in organising and running this fabulous week!

Primary 2

Primary 2 had a very exciting week last week…here’s a wee snippet of some of the things we got up to!

Structure of the Earth

As we have recently began our new volcanoes topic, we began with looking at the structure of the earth and tectonic plates in order to discuss how volcanoes are formed. We tied this lesson in with STEM and used our collaboration skills to create our own playdoh; discussing how the ingredients mix to form a new solid. We formed our playdoh earths by layering each part with each colour representing the inner core, outer core, mantel and the earth’s crust.

Volcano Texture Artwork

As part of our volcano topic, we looked at the different textures of a volcano. We used adjective to describe textures; we thought the lava might be smooth and soft but the volcano would be rocky and rough. We explored a range of textures and chose which ones we though would best suit our volcanoes. Using our creativity and fine motor skills, we created amazing masterpieces!

Eatwell Buffet

We developed our knowledge of the wellbeing ‘healthy’ by learning about the Eatwell Plate. We discussed each category and why it is important to have a healthy diet. Using our new found knowledge, we explored the buffet and filled our plates with the aim to have a food from each of the food groups shown on the Eatwell Plate!

P2 News

We have thoroughly enjoyed our first week back after the holidays – it has been lovely to see our friends again.

We have had a very busy week….In Read, Write, Inc. we have worked hard on developing our Phonic skills and our reading.

In Maths we have also worked hard on learning about Fractions of amounts. We have been learning about whole parts, halves, quarters and three-quarters.

We have also learned about the symbols of the Holy Spirit as well as its meaning.

We also worked as table teams to design and draw a 7 foot long ‘tapestry of life at St Mary’s’ with illustrations of our memories, and experiences at school.

A great week!
