P2 Update 26.1.24

It has been a wonderful week in P2.

We enjoyed some chocolate to celebrate the birthday of someone very special, and no, it wasn’t Rabbie Burns!  Happy birthday to our wonderful Mrs Topping!

We also celebrated Burns day by making our own shortbread.  No pictures were taken during the production process I’m afraid as everyone was covered head to toe in flour and butter but it was all worth it in the end!  It was delicious.

We thoroughly enjoyed our fresh fruit box that was kindly delivered by the St Mary’s health and wellbeing committee on Monday.  There has been a lot of eating this week!

We are now learning about shape in maths and have enjoyed exploring the properties of 2d and 3d shape and finding them in our environment.

Have a great weekend everyone and we will see you next week.

P2 Update 19.1.24

It has been a whirl wind start to 2024 in P2.  We have been learning about numbers up to 20 and exploring different ways in which we can complete addition and subtraction calculations.

We used 10 frames which helped us to split numbers in order to make 10 first.  This took a bit of practise to begin with but confidence was high by the end of the week.  We also used number lines and rekenreks to support our mental numeracy skills.

We concluded our weather topic by looking at how to use a thermometer and linking them to the numbers we see on the weather.  We now know which numbers on the map require a coat, and which require sun cream!   We looked at different cloud formations and recreated them using a variety of materials.  The stratus cloud was our favourite.  It is pale grey and covers the whole sky and it was very messy to make!

Have a great weekend everyone and we will see you next week.

Merry Christmas P2!

We’ve had lots of fun these last few days making Christmas cards, wrapping paper and playing around with some bright green pastels to create a rather familiar Christmassy hand!

Have a wonderful Christmas, thank you for your support and we are looking forward to doing it all again in January.

A baby is born… P2 15.12.23

Primary 2 were a mixture of excited and terrified this morning for the St Mary’s annual nativity.  I think we can all agree that they were fabulous and should be very proud of themselves.  We hope you enjoyed it.

Earlier in the week, we also enjoyed our Christmas dinner.  Lilly eating a Brussel sprout was definitely the highlight of the week!

We enjoyed a bit of down time as well with a few new classroom toys.

Don’t worry grown ups, there was still plenty of maths and literacy!

Have a great weekend.  One week to go!

P2 Weekly Update 1.12.23

Hello and happy December – the most divisive year in the calendar!  P2 are very much in the ‘December’ is fabulous camp and have fully embraced the season today by decorating our classroom tree and welcoming a very special visitor.  Little Candy Cane, the naughty elf will be disrupting our peaceful mornings for the next few weeks!

We had very little time to properly mark St Andrew’s day due to our intensive nativity rehearsals but we did give some highland dancing a bash.  Looks can be deceiving!  It was surprisingly hard!

A special mention must be given to the whole class who attended our advent service this morning with Father Marcin.  They were an absolute privilege to sit with, behaved impeccably and gave Father a wonderful impression of what we can do at St Mary’s.

Christmas Fayre is in the dinner hall at 10am tomorrow morning.  P2 have personalised baubles on sale for £2.  Please come along and support the school.

Have a great weekend.

P2 Weekly Update 24.11.23

Hello!  Another week gone!  It won’t be long until that scary ‘C’ word that fills teachers with dread!  And on that subject, P2 have been busy making a little treat for you to purchase at the Christmas Fayre next weekend.

We’ve also made a strong start to the nativity practice and can’t wait for you to see it in a few weeks time.

Business as usual in other areas however as we continued to build up our knowledge of fact families in maths.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

P2 Weekly update 17.11.23

It has been a jam-packed week in P2 this week.

We have been marking Catholic Education Week with the theme ‘Pilgrims of Faith’ and thinking about what we can do to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

We have taken part in Money Week.  We used the MoneySense online resources  – Where does money come from?  We met the Jackson family and leaned all about  where they get their money.  We also played Money Bingo to help us identify all UK coins and notes.

We created rain gauges for our weather topic and will monitor the rainfall next week.  What’s the chances we have a really dry week now!

The highlight of the week was, without a doubt, hot chocolate with some very special people for Scottish Book week.  It was fun watching the grown ups (including the staff) scratch their heads over the tangram maths puzzle in our special Read, Write Count book bag!  Thank you to everyone who was able to join us.

And finally the obligatory wooden spoon pick!  Special mention goes to Jake for his double sided Spiderman/Peter Parker.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and warm up those vocal tones as nativity practice begins next week!

Primary 2 Update 10.11.23

Primary 2 enjoyed exploring the origins of wind and were very surprised to find out that it all begins with the sun.  We looked at the importance of wind direction and created our own wind socks.  Thank goodness there was a gentle breeze and they worked really well.  Have a wonderful weekend.  Stay warm.  The children should be able to tell you that there will be a slight breeze on Saturday and clear skies but Sunday may bring some rain.  Temperatures will be around 8 degrees which isn’t too bad but night time will be rather cold indeed!

P2 weekly update – 3.11.23

P2 have been doing a bit of work on their scissor skills this week.  We’ve sorted hot and cold items as a warm up activity in health and wellbeing.  We then visited Firefighter Fred’s Bonfire Safety workshop in preparation for the weekend.

We also created a fireworks collage using multicoloured cupcake cases.  It was a careful and delicate task but the results were fantastic.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Happy Halloween from Primary 2!

Hello to you all and Happy Halloween weekend!  P2 thoroughly enjoyed their party today and were throwing some fabulous moves on the dance floor.  The costumes this year were of a very high standard and grown ups will be very busy tonight scrubbing face and glitter!

Apologies for the lack of photographs – they were extremely tricky to track down once the fun had begun!

Thank you P2 for such a lovely warm welcome to your class.

Have a lovely weekend.
