Busy week in Rannoch

Rannoch Class have had a wonderfully busy and exciting week as we celebrated Book Week Scotland. Our learners explored stories in lots of sensory and meaningful ways, with activities designed to support communication, curiosity and confidence. 📚

We set up a range of sensory stations, including numbers and shapes trays filled with textured materials to encourage hands-on learning. The children enjoyed sorting, matching and exploring at their own pace, using concrete materials to help build early numeracy skills.

Outdoors, the class had great fun in the snow! We made the most of the winter weather with sledding, exploring the sensory feel of snow, and taking part in outdoor learning linked to our story themes. The fresh air and movement supported regulation and added lots of smiles to our week. 🍃🪾🍂

In PE, pupils took part in activities that focused on balance, coordination and turn-taking, with adapted stations to ensure everyone could join in successfully. 🏃

Art we created our Christmas Art for the fair next week. 🎨

It’s been a fantastic week full of stories, sensory play and active learning. Well done, Rannoch Class

Book Week Scotland in P5! 📚🎉

Primary 5 are enjoying  a fantastic week celebrating Book Week Scotland! We started with a lovely visit to the library where everyone had the chance to browse, and chat about their favourite stories. Back in school, we held a fun book swap, giving pupils the opportunity to discover new authors and genres through books shared by the entire school.

One of the week’s highlights was our creative art session, where the children painted story characters onto potatoes! Their imaginations ran wild and the results were wonderfully unique

Tomorrow, we are excited to join the whole school for our Reading River—a special chance for everyone to come together and share the joy of reading. We can’t wait!

📖✨

Rannoch Round Up

We’ve had a fantastic few weeks full of hands-on learning, sensory exploration, and Halloween celebrations!

✨ Sensory Play and Literacy

Our learners have been enjoying foam play while exploring the sounds ‘m’ and ‘a’. The soft, bubbly texture made it fun to form letters, trace shapes, and listen for the sounds in words. Sensory play helps our pupils engage with learning in a calm, enjoyable way — and there were lots of smiles and messy hands!

🔺 Shapes in Numeracy

In maths, we’ve been practising recognising and naming shapes using concrete materials such as blocks, puzzles, and sorting toys. The children loved building towers, matching shapes, and discovering which ones roll or stack. These activities help develop early numeracy skills while keeping learning active and playful.

🌳 Outdoor and Sensory Movement

We’ve also spent time in the outdoor area and sensory room, giving learners opportunities to move, regulate, and explore different textures and sounds. Outdoor P.E. sessions have been full of energy and laughter, while the sensory room offered a peaceful space for calm time afterwards.

🎃 Halloween Fun!

To finish off the week last week, we celebrated with our Halloween parties — and they were a huge success! Everyone enjoyed dressing up, dancing, and joining in with spooky-themed games and sensory activities. It was a wonderful way to bring integrate classes together and celebrate in a fun, inclusive way.

We’re so proud of how engaged and happy our learners have been — it’s been a brilliant balance of fun, movement, and learning!

This week Rannoch class have been busy exploring numbers and 2D shapes in maths, creating some spooky Halloween art, and enjoying music time together. We loved joining P5 friends for P.E and making the most of our outdoor learning spaces, from the classroom to the trim trail. Time in the sensory room gave us a chance to relax and recharge, rounding off a fun-filled week of learning and play!

Learning indoors and outdoors

This week in class we worked on the phonics sound v, exploring words that begin with and include the sound. In numeracy we focused on shapes, learning to recognise and name them. We enjoyed P.E. with Miss Lyndsay and Mrs McMasrer. We explored the  trim trail looking at flowers and the butterflies which helped us with building our confidence outdoors. We also spent time in the outdoor classroom, making the most of the fresh air to support our learning. To finish off, we had fun in music, listening, moving and joining in with rhythms.

Have a great weekend ☺️

Rannoch Class Explore, Build and Create

This week in Rannoch Class we have been busy developing our skills through lots of fun activities. Outdoors, we explored our environment and worked together in construction play, building with big blocks. We enjoyed making music through body percussion, learning to listen and copy sounds. With Play-Doh, we had a great time creating, moving, and working on our fine motor skills through play. The children have been engaged, active and building confidence while learning in different ways.

Primary 5 Round Up

This week in P5 we’ve been busy learning and building on our skills. In Literacy, we continued developing our reciprocal reading strategies, with a focus on predicting what might happen next in our stories. In Numeracy, we explored place value and patterns to strengthen our number knowledge. In Science, we linked the water cycle to real-life situations, thinking about how it affects our homes, crops, and the world around us. We also continued learning Spanish, building on greetings and classroom language. It’s been a great week of teamwork, learning, and fun!

P5 Weekly Round Up

This week in P5 we were introduced to our new reading groups and began exploring the reciprocal reading skills that will help us become more confident readers.

In numeracy, we worked on place value, comparing and ordering numbers, and creating number patterns.

In science, we linked the water cycle to real life, thinking about how it impacts our homes, crops growing and the wider world.

In Spanish, we learned how to respond to ¿Cómo estás? with phrases like Estoy bien.

We revised our H&WB indicators this week and completed some group work on how we see the indicators in school.

We also enjoyed going outdoors with Ms. Nelson to take part in some fun challenges and work on our charter.

In art, we explored how to describe ourselves using pictures rather than words – a very creative task!

We finished off our door display and class charter that we worked on together

Stay tuned to see what we get up to next week.

Rannoch Class

In class, we worked on joining in with group times, taking turns at the teaching table, and sharing learning with adults and friends. We also practised important routines like snack and lunchtime, helping us to build independence.

It has been a busy and positive week, full of opportunities to learn, play and grow together!

Splashes of learning in P5!

We have had another busy and exciting week in Primary 5! The children continued to work on our class door display and made great progress creating our class charter, helping us think about the kind of classroom we want to learn in together.

This week we were also introduced to Spanish and enjoyed learning some basic greetings to use with one another. In Health and Wellbeing, we spent time talking about the important people we can go to for help both inside and outside of school.

In Science, the class explored the water cycle, learning all about precipitation, condensation and evaporation, and linking these ideas to real-life examples. The children showed fantastic curiosity and made great connections with their prior learning.

It’s been another fantastic week of learning and we are looking forward to what next week will bring!
