We’ve had another busy week! Lots of revision of times tables and exploring different multiplication strategies. We have started the planning process for our exposition texts and began thinking about a topic that we’re passionate about.

Our pupil highlights of the week are:

• “I enjoyed practising the times tables in different games and creating multiplication posters for the maths wall” – Connor
• “I liked how we got some extra free time as a reward for excellent learning” – Siddharth
• “I liked discussing the rights related to Remembrance Day and creating poppy art” – Niamh
• “I learned about the new writing targets for exposition” – Jude

Well done to Amelia who was this weeks hot chocolate winner. Amelia is growing in confidence everyday and has done an excellent job in all her learning this week.

As part of our class ethos, we have class targets that we work towards and once we met the target, we get a reward. This week, we managed to meet it, which meant we got some extra free time. Some of us went outside to play football, and the others stayed in and listened to music and played Just Dance! A great treat for all the hard work we’ve been doing!

Another busy week in P1B.  This week we have been learning the sounds ‘f’ and ‘e’.  We have been working very hard on the formation of these sounds and recalling words that begin with these sounds.  We continue to practise our common words.

As part of our topic about Space, we learned about the sun and the moon.

In writing we shared facts about the sun in our talking sentences then worked very hard to write in on paper.  Our teachers are very proud of how well we are doing.  We are trying hard to remember to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

In maths we have continued to work on addition within 10 and also used nonstandard materials to measure.  We have also been counting to 20 and beyond.

For Health and Well Being we have looked at road safety and how to cross the road safely with a grown up.  We looked at the job of the lollipop person and how they help keep us safe.  We also explored the role of doctors and how they help us.

We learned about Remembrance Day and looked at why people wear poppies.

We have had a lovely week this week.  We have started our new poetry unit and we have explored some poems together, learning all about the structure and features.  We wrote some fantastic similes and metaphors about some photos of the sea and we used our comprehension skills to explore a poem about a dragonfly.  We worked in groups to present a poem to the class and Mrs Brown was so proud of us for performing confidently, projecting our voices clearly and using actions to engage our audience and help them to create images in their heads.  Next week, some of us are going to perform them to Primary 4a.

In maths, we’ve done lots of work on mental calculations.  We have done lots of number bond practise and Mrs Brown has asked us to keep practising this at home so we can become really fluent and fast and recalling these. We’ve also been sharing our strategies for how to calculate mental addition and subtraction calculations and we’ve explained these clearly using mathematical vocabulary such as ‘partitioned’ or ‘tens’ and ‘ones’.

We have also practised our Spanish greetings and we had some short conversations with our classmates in Spanish, using questions and answers.

Mrs Brown has asked us to make sure we bring in our spelling books on Monday (because that’s when we get our new spellings).

Well done to Paige who is our hot chocolate winner this week!  She listened really carefully and produced a fantastic poem analysis.

To prepare for Road Safety Week we have been learning about crossing the road safely. We practised using the painted road in the playground and took turns to be the School Crossing Patrol.  We also walked up to the zebra crossing at the back of the school and practised crossing safely. 

We have been learning the sounds ‘f’ and ‘e’ this week. We enjoyed playing games to find the words Miss Stebbing was sounding out. In writing, we wrote about the sun and we remembered lots of facts from our discussion during Science. 

In maths, we have been using the Numicon to add two numbers. We also learned about number 15 and 16. We have been using the scales to investigate heavier and lighter items.  

In RE, we watched the CBeebies video about poppies and discussed how Article 38 of UNCRC protects and cares for children affected by wars. 

As part of our topic about Space, we learned about stars. We created some constellations using sticky stars and black paper.

Harald – I enjoyed learning building with the cups. 

Joshua – I enjoyed colouring in. 

Vedansh – I enjoyed learning about the Numberblocks. 

Eve – I enjoyed colouring in and making the star things. 

Alexander – I enjoyed drawing. 

Miss Stebbing – It was lovely to share all the hard work and fantastic learning with our P1 families this week during our Learning Consultations.

This week, we’ve finished with our inventions topic.  Today, after lots of hard work learning our lyrics and lines, we presented an excellent assembly to our adults.  We should be very proud of ourselves!

We also finished off our time unit.  Our last lesson was looking at timetables.  We will be continuing to practise this whenever we have the opportunity but anything we can do at home to practise would be really helpful too.

We also used the computers to write up our procedures onto Word.  We thought carefully about the audience (our customers) and the purpose (to tell our customers how to put up our invention) of our writing.

Some highlights from this week:

Jonah and Ishani S:  I liked doing the assembly.  The singing part was our favourite part.

Layla: I liked doing time in maths.  I liked reading the timetables.  I also enjoyed doing the timelines with our families.

Jude:  I liked going to look at the books at the Book Fayre.  I enjoyed looking at all the different books.

Matteo:  I really liked the Halloween art that we did on Monday.  I enjoyed following the instructions for drawing the castles and loved making it a little spookier than the original.

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Red and Green Tables:

Ollie said he liked PE on Monday when the class played Hallowe’en Corners!

Ishaan enjoyed visiting the Book Fayre on Friday and selecting a book he hopes he might get from his parents or Santa.  (See slip in your child’s school bag.)

Musa loved building a lego ship during ‘Choosing our own Learning’ time.

Maja said the best part of her week was when we were exploring our senses in the woods.  We worked with a partner and went on a scavenger hunt.

Lewis recounts how learning about Climate Zones, as part of our new Topic, ‘Weather and the Water Cycle’ was his highlight.  He knows that we live in a Temperate climate, a bit like Baby Bear’s porridge, not too hot and not too cold.

Olivia and Evana both said that Hallowe’en fun was the best part of their week.  They enjoyed apple bobbing and dressing up.  The children had an opportunity that afternoon to visit the other classrooms in the Infant Area and engage in Hallowe’en themed activities including craft, songs and dancing.

Theo enjoyed music with Mrs Morrison.

Amariah-Grace loved the ‘Flora the Frog’ Word Boost story and her favourite new vocabulary was ‘gaze’.  She shared how she likes to gaze at the stars at night.

Mrs Devlin’s favourite part of the week was when the children spoke to me about their lesson with Mrs Callaghan.  With her, they had a lesson linked to the Gospel reading on Sunday about God welcoming everyone who believes, into Heaven.  They drew what they think Heaven might be like and showed the rest of the class their picture on the Smartboard.  Some children spoke at length about their picture and some just wanted to share the picture with the class.  We had lots of angels and happy faces.  They know there is only happiness and love in Heaven, no pain or suffering.

We hope you are all very well and feeling excited about the fireworks displays of the weekend!😃

Here are our highlights:

This week we have had lots of extra fun, since we have started the week being given the chance to wear our favourite costumes to celebrate Halloween! 🎃🎃🎃

We got to learn all about the ancient history of Halloween, which has started a long time ago, and found it both very interesting and spooky!

Even our spelling was Halloween themed! And some of our Numeracy activities on addition as well! It was indeed a very enjoyable Halloween themed week! 😊

During this week we have also learned the meaning of the 1st of November, All Saints Day, and of the 2nd, when we remember the ones departed before us.

Also regarding RE, this was our 3rd lesson preparing us for Reconciliation and we have learned all about the Baptism of Jesus, as well as about the symbols of Baptism: Holy water, oil, white clothes, the sign of the Cross and the candle. We have discussed why and how these are used and some of us even remembered seeing them before.

We have been reminded of how to be safe during Bonfire Night and have also learned the history behind it, Guy Fawkes’ ‘explosive’ history, of course!😄

We have finished the week learning the colours in Spanish and, as usual, doing our weekly spelling assessment.

P3A would like to congratulate Kayla for being awarded the Hot Chocolate of the week due to her efforts to follow the school rules of Ready, Respectful and Safe! 😃Well done, Kayla!🥳🥇👏

What a busy week we’ve had! Firstly, we started off with spooky Halloween activities on Monday which were closely linked to our learning.

Another big well done to everyone for completing the Cross Country on Wednesday – everyone did a super job and we are all so proud of Vivien and Gracie who came 1st and 2nd place in the girls race!

Our highlights of the week are:

• Declan and Connor – “we liked Number Talks this week. We like seeing our scores and time getting better during Fluent in 5”
• Sophia – “I liked going to mass at church on Tuesday.
• Siddharth and Keaghan – “We enjoyed Cross Country and seeing all the training we have done pay off”.
