Hello P6B families,

We have had another fantastic and busy week. We have continued to follow our class charter rules (Ready, Respectful and Safe) and shown what Awesome Ogilvie’s we truly are in all our learning this week. This week, Niamh received Hot Chocolate at Home for being incredibly helpful and respectful – well done Niamh!

Some learning highlights from 6B:

• Alex – enjoyed recapping how to divide and multiply by 10, 100 and 1000 and then solving these types of question in Number Talks.

• Vivien – liked working through the “Fluent in 5” maths challenges and beating my time!

• Naman – liked learning about the different ways we learn and discussing the ‘Thinking Hats’ to help us understand what happens in the brain when we learn new things!

• Jayden – enjoyed developing basketball skills in PE with Mrs Lafferty.

Hi Primary 4B families.

We have had a very busy week this week.  We have continued with place value work and have been working hard with adding 1, 10 and 100 to numbers, including when finding the missing numbers to complete a sequence.  We will be moving on to rounding numbers soon.  We have continued to work on our punctuation in literacy and English, and we have improved our editing skills so that we are becoming more confident at going back and checking our capital letters and full stops, as well as our question marks, commas and exclamation marks.  We have also been learning about the Bible this week in RE, and we continued to deepen our knowledge and understanding through some focused reading comprehension.  We are also learning about the SHANARRI indicators and have shown our understanding of these through some lovely drawings for our display. We also started reading Buddy Bots and we discussed what makes a good buddy, for examples someone who is kind, caring, grateful and generous.

Some pupil comments from this week:

Alexa- I liked learning about The Bible.

Millie, Daniel M and Markuss- I liked doing Free Writing.

Jonah, Jude and Mariam- I liked doing hockey.

Shelby- I liked doing 10x tables.

Ishani M- I liked doing English and comprehension.

The hot chocolate winner this week was Markuss for always trying his hardest with his learning and for also being very kind and helpful in the classroom.

Next week we will be finding out how to get on TEAMS through GLOW so we can do some homework. We will also start bringing a book home to share. This needs to be returned on Thursday!

Dear Parents,

A busy week of learning and P7A are now well and truly back into the swing of things.

We continue to read our class novel ‘Millions and this week used Chapter 4 to complete a comprehension task in Literacy.

For writing we are working on information texts and have begun writing a piece about Rattlesnakes which we will complete next week before we then use the netbooks to edit and redraft them to have a fully complete piece of writing.

In Numeracy and Maths we have been working on Word Problems involving Number and Time. Homework is to spend 20-30 minutes using IXL to complete the Diagnostic Assessment and targeted outcomes which this week were on Place Value.

In HWB we used a fantastic new resource we have available in the school called Treehouse. The Subject was Buddy or Bully and it generated a lot of good discussion and offered strategies for coping with bullying and how to see how much we all have in common.

In outdoor learning we worked on tidying up the woodland area, clearing a path at the top of the woods so the infants have better access and cutting back a Holly bush which has been getting out of control. We had a shot of using different gardening tools, under supervision, and have made great progress at enhancing the woodland area.

Our Scotland through the decades topic focussed on the 1940s and we expanded our notes and will use them next week to create PowerPoints that we can present to the class.

On Friday we used apples from Mrs Meikle’s garden to make apple crumble which most of us really enjoyed though it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Only one quote this week as we were too busy eating apple crumble:

Tanvi said, “I loved when we did drama because it was fun.”

Our Hot Chocolate Winner last week was Lily who has been our Lead Learner this week, and who has taken our photos of lessons.

Forward Plan overview Term 1 p7

This week, we have learned some maths like partitioning numbers and some literacy like comprehension. We have learnt a lot, but here is what I like my classmates to say. Zak Sarfraz 

Susanna: we had our first week of homework. 

Tanya: some people played outside, and some did football. 

Hannah: we were playing outside with our buddies!  

Hanna: the captains went to the lunch hall and helped P1 and P2. 

Anthony: we learnt to compare and partition numbers. 

Rebecca: we used chalk to partition numbers. 

Rupert: we presented PowerPoints. 

Josh: we are making a poster on the four capacities. 

What another fantastic week we have had in P1B. We are continuing to develop our friendships and have enjoyed exploring our new classroom through play.

Elo – I like dancing.

Rhain – I like banging with the hammers

Enso – I like making things with the construction.

This week we have been practising our counting through songs and rhymes counting forwards and backwards to 20.  We looked at finger and dot patterns and the number before and after.

We have been learning the vocabulary beginning, middle and end using instruments and pictures of animals. We also drew some fabulous black ink pictures to help us during ‘Talking Sentences’.

This week we were learning all about the feeling ‘happiness’, identifying the things that make us happy. We drew a picture about a time when we felt happiness.

We also used mirrors to look at our faces making different feelings so we could draw them. We then decided on colours for each emotion

We loved exploring the blocks during Block Play and made some fantastic creations.

Forward Plan overview 1

In literacy, we have been learning about first, middle and last. We had to listen carefully to the instruments and play the correct one. The activity we enjoyed the most was jumping in the hoops when Miss Stebbing called out first, middle or last.  In writing, we made a talking sentence about how we would help people when they are sad. Our black pen drawings were very good.

In maths, we have been counting forwards and backwards to 20 and we learned about subitising. We also have been learning to write 2 and 3 the correct way. We tried very hard to follow the rhymes we learned.

With Mrs Robson, we learned about the story of the feeding of the five thousand and did some super colouring in.

This week we learned about the Little Spot of Sadness. We learned how to help people when they are sad and what we can do when we feel sad. Ask us about the blue and green dots on our hands.

We had great fun during our Outdoor Learning session with the P1B.

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Oliver – My favourite thing to learn was numbers.

Lillian – My favourite thing to do was playing with my buddy.

Alexander – I liked making lots of things with the paper.

Aarav – I liked making the train tracks with my friends.

Connor – My favourite thing was playing out in the playground.

Vasilisa – I love playing with my friends.

Miss Stebbing – I am very proud of P1A because they have been getting organised very quickly in the morning and at home time all by themselves.  I also loved hearing all their sentences during writing time.

Congratulations to Olga who was our Hot Choc Winner this week.

This week we were learning art and drawing lines to make shapes. We were counting numbers and place value.

In PE we were playing a game called bulldogs and then did passing with the hockey sticks and balls. We played lots of TAG.

In music we learned new notes, a crochet, a rest that is one beat but is silent. We sang really well together.

We met the Buddy Bots. They told us about Buddy Bots and Bully Bots. Basically told us how to be buddies. Also how to be kind. If you are kind then you have a full battery or lots of energy but a bully bot zaps energy from others and loses energy when its mean.

Football Clubs started this week and 5 of our class attended it.

The hot chocolate winner for trying hard and being READY to learn was:  JOHN.

Monday – We got homework for the first time in P5B. It was exciting.

Tuesday – We enjoyed Science and History. We learned King Alexander III of Scotland.

We made factfiles for some planets and we drew the Solar System using pastels.

Wednesday – We loved PE learning about Basketball skills. One person would do a bounce throw and the other person did a chest pass. In Music we learning songs and pirates.

We learned about Article 42 – Everyone should learn about the Rights of the Child to make sure everyone gets their rights because it is important. We finished our Class Charter and put it on the wall after we all signed it and Mrs Miller too.

Thursday – Outdoor Learning we did more tidying and collected sticks to make 3D shape models and some people saw a frog on the path.

Friday –  We chose new lead learners. They are Joy and Niylah. Our Hot chocolate person is Fatima K.

We finished off some artwork and learned a Spanish greeting song.
