In phonics we have been learning about the letters ‘qu’ and ‘y’.  We now know all of the single sounds so we are going to keep practising making words.  In writing, we were writing sentences about Chinese New Year.  Some people wrote three sentences!

In maths we have been doing our take away sums.  We are getting very good at using different strategies.

On Tuesday we celebrated Chinese New Year.  We have a Chinese Restaurant role play area and we have been making lots of different food.  We tasted prawn crackers. We even tried using chopsticks to pick up pom poms.

Some of our personal highlights are :

Ollie – I have enjoyed learning in the Chinese Restaurant area.

Laura – I enjoyed learning about 11 and 12.

Vivien – I enjoyed learning about building in block play.

Chimamanda – I enjoyed learning about block play.

Rory – I enjoyed playing in block play.

Hafsah – I enjoyed playing the Chinese Restaurant.

Shay – I enjoyed playing with lego.

Dear Readers,

This week we followed our normal routine and started with our new spelling words. We have worked a lot on them troughout the week to make sure we become absolute stars at spelling!

Our Reading Comprehension was very interesting and reminded us of how important it is to always look after our pets and never to stop loving them.

Our goal in writing is trying to add more detail to our stories to make them even more interesting.

We all did very well while reading our new books and answering questions about them, which made Mrs Valente very proud!

We finished the week with our weekly spelling assessment and hope to have really good scores.

In Maths, we have worked hard on counting in 2, 5, and 10 as quickly as possible. We have also learned everything about arrays and how to write a number sentence to describe an array. We ended up the week understanding even better timestables and revised the 2 timestable.

Our new Topic is West Lothian and we have started it by learning about our place in the world. It was very interesting to learn that we are in Livingston, which is in Scotland, a nation of the United Kingdom, a country in Europe and one of the continents of Planet Earth…

We celebrated Robert Burns with the traditional Irn-Bru and shortbread and have learned all about his life. In Music, we have learned a Scottish traditional song which is simply amazing: Katie Beardie!

P3A😃 and Mrs Valente

This week we have been learning the sounds ‘y’ and ‘j’ we made jellyfish crafts.

We learned about measure – we used cubes to find out what objects weighted and we had the opportunity to weigh and measure during play using the scales and lots of different objects.

In topic we learned about house types and we drew a picture of our own house.

On Tuesday we celebrated Burns Day.  We learned about Robert Burns and what a Burns Supper is.  We completed a listening activity and listened to some poems by him.   We also had Irn Bru and shortbread.

On Thursday we celebrated 100 days of school.  We designed 100 days smarter hats, used an app to find out what we might look like at 100. We drew pictures of us 100 years old and wrote a sentence about what we might be like.  We coloured in certificates, played counting games such as Race to 100, highlighting 100, making 100, colour by numbers.  We completed a listening activity to make a 100 monster.  We also made a 100 snack.

Congratulations to Lewis who won our Hot Chocolate Award. Well done Lewis!

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Yellow Table:

Eva has loved learning about the history of Livingston.  We have been learning how a Scottish King gave this land to his Flemish friend called ‘de Leving’ about 900 years ago.  Back then, Livingston was just fields, rivers and forests, perfect for hunting!  Baron de Leving built a tower known as ‘de Leving’s Peel’ and a ‘toun’ grew up around this peel to house his servants.  The toun grew and grew.  Over time, de Leving’s toun has turned into Livingston.  So interesting!!! The children built their own Peel from a choice of boxes, lego, straws, blocks or paper.  Look out for these amazing Peels over the weekend on your child’s Seesaw.

Ruari said he really enjoyed our Burns Night celebrations, especially listening to ‘Highland Cathedral’ played on the bagpipes.  Here is the link in case your child would like to listen to it again:

Pola loved listening to ‘The Gruffalo’ in Scots.  This week because of Burns Night, we were learning to speak, read and write some Scots vocabulary.  Mrs Devlin had to seek the help of Mrs Lawrence for some of the pronunciation!  We went up to the woodland for inspiration for our Scots writing, just as Burns used nature to inspire him.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2qmm9o77NU&t=334s

Aiden G liked PE with Mrs Lafferty were they continued developing their ball skills through games.

Kyle said decorating and eating shortbread was his highlight.

Rebekah loved weaving and how we used a monster she made during ‘Choosing Time’ for our measuring in maths with metre sticks.  Her monster was longer than a metre.

My highlight was our time in the woodlands.  Hopefully now as the weather continues to improve, we can resume our outdoor learning.

We had a great week!

We celebrated Burns night. We learned all about Robert Burns by conducting some independent research and creating PowerPoints. We also had moments of reflection whilst we discussed the holocaust on Holocaust Memorial day.

This week in numeracy we continued our work on fractions by comparing and ordering fractions with the same and different denominators; we were able to link back to our work on equivalent fractions! We found these to be tricky but also a lot of fun learning from our mistakes and using our higher order thinking skills to move learning forward.

In Literacy we continued our work on Scots language and came up with some very fantastic Scots poems on all things Scottish. Ask us about this, they are great. We have been learning brilliant Scots words which the class have been using all week with great humour and relevance.

The Children have expressed their learning highlights this week:

• Mark and Szymon enjoyed technology and engineering this week, using paper nets to  create a football, aeroplanes and parrots! this was a great way to challenge ourselves and express our creativity.
• Lucy enjoyed researching and writing her Scots poem.
• Charlotte enjoyed researching and creating a presentation on Robert Burns.
• Sara liked looking ahead at our new topic and being creative with some topical art.
• Sneha enjoyed RE this week, using the Bible to find the letters from Paul and pick out and quote positive messages. She then enjoyed creating a t-shirt inspired by these positives messages.
• Alex enjoyed our work on fractions this week.

Dear Parents,

This week we have been learning about Robert Burns and his life to celebrate his birthday, some people ate haggis and had Irn-bru. We also did science, drama and wrote Burns style poems. We also said some poems to the class for Roberts birthday and they are: My hearts in the Highlands, Willie Wassle, Tae A Moose and many more.

We have enjoyed practicing our volleyball skills during P.E (a volley and a dig)

We really enjoyed reading chapter three of The Spiderwick Chronicles. I liked it when Jared discovered the library.

We enjoyed learning about 3D shapes – matching 2D nets to the correct 3D shape.

We practiced creating our own nets and different types of triangles on the netbooks, using Geoboard.

We enjoyed doing the number talks and finding ways to calculate using a friendly number.

We practiced making an approximate answer/estimate using rounding strategies.

Here are some of the learning highlights from a great week in Primary 6:

Literacy: We have been continuing to learn Scots words and use them in our writing. This week we made our own stories and included Scots language. We even created some art work that is displayed in our classroom. Here are some examples:

Numeracy and Maths: This week we have been adding and subtracting decimals and also multiplying decimals. We have been working on our times tables and trying our best to beat our speed and accuracy in our big maths. Our wizards of the week for our prodigy challenge were Zak, Lucia and Anthony, well done!

IDL: We have been researching famous Scottish people and learning lots of interesting facts about their lives. We also enjoyed a treat of shortbread and Irn-Bru on Burns day.

Music: We have been learning about Scottish musicians with Mrs Morrison.

P.E: We enjoyed playing a game of knots and crosses to work on our fitness.

This week we have been learning the sounds ‘w’ and ‘j’.  We practised writing the ‘j’ sound on a jelly! Not a real one though!

In maths we have been practising dot patterns.  We are getting really good at explaining what we can see.  Most of the time we don’t have to count each dot.  We know the patterns.

On Tuesday we celebrated Burns Day.  We were talking in Scots and we listened to some stories in Scots.  We had irn bru and shortbread, it was very delicious.

On Thursday we celebrated 100 days of Primary 1.  We made 100 using a chocolate finger and 2 party rings, it was a great snack!  We did some special activities.  One where we had to build a pyramid with 100 cups.  We made a picture with 100 stickers and built with 100 cubes and 100 legos.  We made 100 using numcion and we did it in lots of different ways.  We made a colourful gumball machine with paint dabbers we had to dab 100 times with different colours.

Some of our personal highlights are:

Diana – I liked to read books.

Vivien – I liked colouring in at creative zone.

Chimamanda – I enjoyed playing with the lego at the 100 days smarter activities.

Caleb – I liked playing with the ball at PE.

Rory – I liked to play in creative zone. I was drawing the ninja turtles.

Laura – I liked doing everything!

Linda – I liked playing outside.
