P4b weekly blog post 19.05.23

We’ve had another productive week.

During the first half, we finished our narratives and some of us have started presenting these to the class.  We should be really proud of ourselves for working so hard to include excellent description!!

We also enjoyed learning some more Spanish words.  We revised some greetings and then learnt some new ones.  We loved playing a memory game to help us match up and learn these.

With Mrs Lea this week, we did some art, making personality islands.  We had to draw lines and bubbles, or make family islands or hobbies you enjoyed.  We did this to create an island to build up our personalities.

In maths, we looked at 3D shapes and we learned about the faces, vertices and edges.  We used shapes to explore this information and then we wrote it up.

We were sad in PE this week because it was Miss Heggerty’s and Miss Fee’s last days with us.

Our highlights:

Jonah: I loved PE because we did running, throwing and long jump.

Zac: I liked being the chalk figure model that everyone was aiming onto when they jumped.

Layla: I liked maths because I liked getting the shapes out and investigating them and it was really fun.  I liked going to the church because we sang hymns, and I don’t go to that church so it was my first time.

Dhanvi: I liked PE because it was so fun.  I liked RE too because we learnt about the month of Mary.

Well done to Matteo, our hot chocolate winner this week!

Please remember to do your maths homework on Sumdog.  A lot of us are forgetting each week!

Have a lovely long weekend everyone,

Mrs Brown

P1B Learning Highlights Friday 19th May 2023

Another busy week this week in P1B.  The week started with a letter from a giant asking if we could use his footprints to do some measuring.  We measured and found things that were bigger and smaller that his footprints.  We ordered beanstalks from tallest to smallest and we measured how many beans tall the beanstalks were.  The giant knocked over tables and chairs in our classroom so we made wanted posters for him.  The giant sent us another letter to say sorry for making a mess in the classroom he didn’t mean it.  It was because he was so big.

We read the story of Cinderella.  We sequenced pictures to retell the story.  We designed a pair of shoes sharing gems and drawing items equally between the shoes.  We discussed the role of a fairy godmother and during circle time we spoke about what we would wish for if we had a fairy godmother. We made our own wands.  In writing we used adjective to write sentences about Cinderella.  We designed a ball gown for Cinderella and we made missing posters so the prince could find her.

On Wednesday we went for a visit to the library.  We got to choose our own book to look at.  We were allowed to build things with Lego and we got to draw pictures and colour in.  On the way back to school we got to play in the play park.  We had great fun.

To celebrate Ascension Thursday we went to Mass at St Peter’s on Thursday Morning.  We were celebrating Jesus going up to heaven and we were very well behaved.

This week was Mental Health Awareness week, we spoke about our feelings and how it is ok to have lots of different feelings.  We discussed ways to help us if we feel anxious, sad or worried.

In Spanish we practised counting to 10, the colours and the days of the week.

Our Learning Highlights:

Cameron ‘I liked choosing my own learning’

Martyna ‘I liked the story of Cinderella

Faye ‘I liked going to Mass’

Luca ‘ I liked playing in the construction’

Katie ‘I liked going to the library’

Victoria ‘I liked playing in the area’

Connor ‘I liked block play’

Enso and Aaron ‘I liked Church’

Owen ‘I liked measuring’

Rose ‘I liked doing group work’

Well done to Martyna our hot chocolate winner.

Have a lovely long weekend everyone.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 19th May 2023

This week we had a visit from The Giant. He left a huge mess in our classroom! The letter he left asked us the measure things using his footprints. We even used them to measure our heights. We decided to make wanted posters to put up around the school so that if anyone saw The Giant they would tell us. We got a card from a P4 pupil to say they had seen him in the Woodland! The next day, we received a sorry letter from The Giant. He had been looking around our classroom and when the bell rang he got such a fright he knocked everything over when he ran to the beanstalk.

We have been doing lots of measuring activities this week in Maths. We used beans to measure the size of different beanstalks and we talked about how it could change depending on which was up the beans were. We also practised telling the time to o’clock and half past.

In RE, we learned about the Ascension and some of us went up to Mass at St Peter’s.

We had a lovely visit to the library on Wednesday and we met Jo who is the librarian. We read lots of stories and did some colouring in. On the way back to school we got a quick play in the park. We can’t wait to go back to the library again!

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Tiya – I enjoyed playing in Block Play.

Joshua – I enjoyed going to the library.

Kacper – I enjoyed playing with the lego.

Lillian – I enjoyed doing things for the Giant.

Aarav – I enjoyed playing with the dinosaurs.

Miss Stebbing – I enjoyed doing some outdoor learning with P1B on Thursday afternoon.

Congratulations to Alexander who is our Hot Chocolate winner this week.

Primary 2A – Weekly Update 19.5.23

What a super week we have had in Primary 2a!

The children are really enjoying learning about space and have loved finding out about the planets in our solar system!  They worked together in small groups to research a planet and make a poster about it.  They then presented their posters to the rest of the class.

In Maths, we are continuing to develop our multiplication and division skills and this week we have been working on the 5 times table.  We have also been continuing to learn about directions and have made our very on Beebot maps which we will try out next week.

Some of our children went to church for Ascension Thursday and we are very proud to report that they behaved beautifully.

Huge congratulations to this weeks hot chocolate winner, Miss Vivien!  Vivien is always hard working, kind and an all-round fabulous example to her peers.

Pupil Highlights:

Jack:  I enjoyed playing football with my friends because I scored a goal with my weak foot.

Hasika:  I loved leaning about Space and the planets.

Chahiti:  I liked free writing Friday.  I wrote about going to Disneyland.

Linda:  I enjoyed making the Beebot mats.  I can’t wait to try the Beebots on them next week.

Rory:  I liked learning the 5 times table.

Vivien:  I enjoyed getting extra PE with Mrs Craig outside.

Weekly update P5A

Dear parents,

We have had yet another fantastic week! Here are our highlights:

Article of the week: This week is Mental Health Awareness week. This aligns with Article 24 which says that healthcare for children and young people should be as good as possible, and also goes further than this by saying children and young people have the right to be both physically and mentally fulfilled. We discussed what mental health means and how we can look after our own and others’ mental health.

Literacy: We have continued to focus on our exposition writing and the quality of our writing is hugely improving. On Wednesday, we wrote about why we think everyone should have a 3 day weekend! P5A’s writing was so good that Miss Ventisei was completely persuaded to allow everyone a 3 day weekend- yay!

Numeracy: P5 particularly enjoyed data handling this week. We worked in partners to create our own survey, collect responses, transfer the data into a table and then even managed to draw our own bar chart! We have also started to work on solving some simple equations this week; we used the Numicon to help us calculate x and challenged our friends to some tricky equations!

Outdoor learning: This week we were so fortunate to have lovely weather and plenty of time outdoors! It was also Outdoor Classroom day on Thursday so to celebrate we had a full day of outdoor learning! We weeded and prepared the school gardens for planting and then also went for an orienteering session at Eliburn park which was fantastic. Lots of children said that it was their favourite day at school ever!

IDL: Recently, P5 have been talking a lot about sustainability and why we should be reducing our consumption and reusing materials before putting them into landfill. Last term, during our Christmas enterprise topic, lots of people donated some unwanted materials and we had some left over- so we decided to reuse the material and make something new! We decided to make some bunting, each with our own personalised triangle! We will join all of these up together soon and decorate our classroom with our creation.

R.E: On Thursday, it was Ascension Thursday. Throughout the week we learnt a lot about this special day and some of us went to Mass to celebrate this day on Thursday morning. We particularly enjoyed creating our very own Ascension Thursday prayer spirals to decorate our classroom with.

Thank you for yet another wonderful week P5A, have a lovely long weekend and I will see all of you on Tuesday!

P5B Blog 19th May 2023

This week was Mental Health Awareness week so when we examined Children’s rights we learned that our mental health clearly links to Article 24 of the CRC also, many of the other rights that children and young people are entitled to, also contribute to good mental health. It also linked to Global Goal 3 which states that everyone should have good health and wellbeing. As part of our learning we explored the Zones of Regulations and why our emotions are effected by things going on around us. e.g. falling out with a friend because we are feeling tired, or hungry. We continued to build our understanding of clarifying words and their meanings in out writing as well as predicting what might happen next.

In math we are learning about algebra, data handling and using time to plan our day/week.

In Spanish we are continuing to use and match our knowledge of colours and clothes names to create a simple outfit. In Science we investigated our circulatory system and built two large bodies to show organs and blood vessels.

We all learned about the feast of the Ascension and some of us went to church to celebrate with holy mass. Some of us went down to Primary 6 to take part in challenges.

As always we were outdoors, weeding and tidying up the front garden beds. We went up to Eliburn Park to take part in their orienteering trail. We hope to do this again in a few weeks time.

I hope everyone has a lovely long weekend and I look forward to seeing the children again on Tuesday.

P2B Week Beginning 8th May 2023

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Yellow Table:

Lewis loved bridge building this week!  We looked at images of bridges from around the world.  We discovered that they were all different shapes, sizes and made from a range of materials.  In groups, we designed and then made our own bridge that had to cross the space between 2 tables and then withstand a 50g weight.  Super teamwork P2!

Musa said he liked music with Mrs Morrison, where they have continued their session on nursery rhymes.

Amariah-Grace has been enjoying the 5 Times Tables.  The children were amazed to hear that even though we focus on the 2, 5 and 10 Times Tables in P2, they are actually learning many other Times Tables as the answers are the same if the digits are reversed i.e. 5×7 is the same answer as 7×5!  I heard some brains explode!

Ollie enjoyed our new ice cream role-play.  The children suggested this idea for a new role-play area and also wish to set up a police station.  Watch this space!

Tharun said the best part of his week was when he played the role of the Baby Billy Goat in drama this week.  We took this learning up to the woods where there was much more space and found that some logs had already been led out in the shape of a bridge!  That was handy for us!

Isabella has loved saying the Rosary each day with our rosary beads as part of our learning about Mary during the month of May.

Mrs Devlin’s favourite part of the week has to have been the bridge building.  Some teams forgot to consult their design and made it up as they went along.  However, I did see fantastic teamwork, creativity and despite some collapsing again and again during construction, the teams never gave up!  In the end, all teams’ bridges met the success criteria which was, could it withstand a 50g weight.  Well done P2!  I think we have some future engineers in our midst!

P1B Friday 12th May

Our week started with a letter from the dragon who left us some magic beans to plant. The next day the children came into class to find they had grown into a gigantic beanstalk up through the clouds to a castle.

We decided to read ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and worked on retelling the story in our own words, through drama and sequencing pictures from the story into the correct order.

Lucas – The giant says Fe Fi Fo Fum I smell the blood of an Englishman.

Martyna – I liked acting out the story.

We drew our own beanstalks and imagined ourselves climbing it, using our senses to write what we would see and hear and thought about what the giant was eating for his dinner for what we could smell.

Connor – I can smell chicken nuggets.

Rose – I can smell chips.

Enso – I can smell egg and soldiers.

We used estimation strategies to estimate how many magic beans would fit in different size tubs and shapes. We also continued skip counting to count our steps up the beanstalk and started to think about sharing equally between two.

We also enjoyed play in the area where some children chose role play, sand, water and play dough.

P3A – WB 08.05.23

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all very well.

This week in P3A the highlights were:

  • Learning what a recount is, identifying its different parts and understanding what each of them should include.
  • Exploring a Reading Comprehension about Plastic pollution and its impact on animals and the planet.
  • Practising the spelling of high frequency words that are always being used and that can be particularly challenging.
  • In Maths, we are loving fractions and have learned how to find a half and a quarter of shapes, even shapes that are divided into many different parts. We have also explored the close link between fractions and division and have solved many exercises about it.
  • Our Right of the week was Article number 6, which is all about what children need in order to survive and reach their full potential, which initiated a very interesting class discussion.
  • We have continued our work drawing the endangered animals and they are looking amazing!
  • Last week we have started learning about how May is the month of Mary and we talked about how important Mary is and why she is considered Mother of God, Mother of the Church and our Heavenly Mother. We’ve created our own pictures of Mary together with beautiful bouquets of flowers to make a May, month of Mary display and we think it is going to be adorable!
  • We would like to congratulate Emily for being our Hot Chocolate of the week! Well done, Emily! Thank you for being an amazing and lovely role model for all!🥇👏👏👏🥰

We would also like to congratulate Gryffindor for winning the weekly House Prize!!!!!Go Gryffindor!!!!

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 12th May 2023

We have been learning about Jack and the Beanstalk this week. The dragon left us some magic seeds and some magic soil. When we planted them a beanstalk grew in our classroom! We read the story and then we went on an adventure using our imaginations to climb up the beanstalk. We could see clouds, a huge door and big furniture. We drew our own beanstalks and  we stuck our photographs on them to look like we were climbing up. We also did some writing about the things we could see, hear and touch when we climbed up.

In maths, we have been counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s. We had a special sheet to help us with our take away and we had to find the correct number for the sum by using the pictures of things from the Jack and the Beanstalk story.

In science, we were learning about things that use mains electricity and things that use batteries. We also learned about the dangers of electricity and how we can keep safe.

We were playing in the Outdoor Classroom on Friday. We played with the toys outside and inside the classroom. We had to spell words by tapping the correct flowers on the wall.

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Vasilisa – I enjoyed drawing.

Summer Rose – I enjoyed doing outdoor learning.

Joshua – I enjoyed making the castle and building the Lego house.

Olga – I enjoyed using my imagination going on the beanstalk.

Lillian – I enjoyed learning about safety rules.

Oliver – I enjoyed outdoor learning.

Miss Stebbing – I enjoyed seeing everyone’s reaction to the beanstalk growing in our classroom.

Congratulations to Vedansh who is this week’s Hot Chocolate winner.
