P1B Post

Week Beginning 30.9.19

P1B highlights:

Paige – I liked playing in the woods.  I was the ‘negro’ (black in Spanish) group so we were ‘free play this week’.

Zac – My favourite part was cutting out a snowman (linked with our ‘s’ phonics learning).

Amelia – Amelia liked learning about Tiger Ten this week.  He was such a show off and thought he was much more clever than all the other animals.

Ishani S – I liked walking around the school outside.  I heard cars and aeroplanes (linked to our ‘sense of hearing’ learning).

Mrs Devlin: I especially liked when we learned the actions for the Hail Mary prayer.  The children loved it and wanted to say the Hail Mary a lot this week.  If you wanted to practise it at home, the actions are as follows:

Hail Mary, (Lift your right hand pointing to the sky.)

Full of grace, (Lift your left hand pointing to the sky.)

The Lord is with you. (Bring your hands down folded near your heart.)

Blessed are you among women, (Take your right hand and sweep it across your body pointing to all the girls in the group around you.)

And blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus. (Pretend you are rocking a baby in your arms.)

Holy Mary, (Lift your right hand pointing to the sky.)

Mother of God, (Lift your left hand pointing to the sky.)

Pray for us sinners, (Bring your hands down folded near your heart.)

Now (Point down to the ground with both hands.)

And at the hour of our death. (Point to a pretend watch on your wrist.)

Amen. (Bring hands together folded near your heart.)

P4a Learning Highlights

In P4a, we have been working very hard.

Curriculum areas and subjects

In Maths, we were rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. Some people tried to round to the nearest 10 and 100 beyond 1000 thousand and they enjoyed the challenge.

We also measured in cm using rulers. We had the challenge of measuring the length of different sizes of leaves. We also wrote our name and had to measure the length of each line.

Interdisciplinary learning

We got to make parachutes!  We had different materials to choose from to make the parachute. We had a toy figure to test out our parachute. We had to work in teams and it was a tricky challenge. We had to persevere and work well together.

The ethos and life of the school

On Friday we had Mass. We learnt about Saint Francis. We learnt that he lived in Italy 900 years ago.

Father Simon asked us to look after the world and one way we can do that is to pick up litter.

We also sang different hymns (Follow me, Colours of day dawn, Bind us together and all that I am) and prayed.

Opportunities for personal achievement

Alessio- ‘I have gotten better at measuring using a ruler. I am also proud of my story I have written this week.’

Jakub- ‘I am proud of my effort when making the parachute.’

Lily- ‘I have gotten better at handwriting as I can join letters together.’

Lastly, thank you Jaagruti, Zara and Emily for showing us your medals.

23/9/19 P1a meet the ‘c’ sound

P1a have loved learning their new sound.

Ben:  c is yellow because Miss Smith needs a torch to see you make this sound in your throat.

Marie:  I liked making crowns and sticking the ‘c’ sound on it.

All of P1 have been working really hard at counting out numbers 1 to 10 and placing only one counter on each box in  a ten frame.

Ishaan:  5 and 2 make 7 because there are 5 at the top and 2 at the bottom.

Sky Skills Academy P6A

Last Monday we went to Sky Skills Academy and we made a video about Cyberbullying.

We were split into groups and each group had their own studio.  Each studio had a different part of the video to record. Studio 1 introduced the News report, Studio 2 reported from St John Ogilvie, Studio 3 reported from another school with 2 eye witnesses and Studio 4 interviewed and expert from Twitter.

In each group we had individual roles , such as camera operator, director etc., and each role was important for the studios to record a great part of video.

We enjoyed ourselves and we were so excited.  We would love to go back again.  We each got a USB with the final video so we can share with our family.

We have had a great week of learning this week. We continued to learn about The Wright Brothers and their great flying invention. In science we were challenged not only to make a paper aeroplane with the success criteria that is glides, but were also challenged to make a parachute to safely land a playmobil figure. We all loved these challenges and look forward to next weeks.

In Math we have been learning about rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. We have also been working out the area of shapes by counting squares.
