P1B Post

Week Beginning 8.9.19

PIB highlights:

Layla: Miss Miller taught us how to listen well.  We need to look at our teacher to show we are listening.

Matteo:  We made monsters for our ‘m’ phonics work this week.  They are on the wall.

Alexa: I run at Break Time with my friends.  We have fun.

Millie: My favourite part was when Paula the caterpillar taught us how to say “Que tal?” (How are you?)

Mrs Devlin: The highlight of my week was when we lit our candle and thanked God for our talents.  We learned that P1B are very talented!  Some people can sing well, dance well, are talented at gymnastics and someone can even open their eyes under water!

P4a Learning Highlights

In P4a, we have been working very hard.

Curriculum areas and subjects

In Maths, we have been learning about place value (the value of each digit in a number) and that zero is the place holder.

Interdisciplinary learning

We explored the history of electricity and the importance it plays in our lives. We then had a fantastic time making a circuit as part of a group. We had to make a light bulb work and had to problem solve when it did not.

The ethos and life of the school

We have lots of talented children at Taekwondo in the class. We loved watching all their fantastic moves. Thanks for sharing!

Opportunities for personal achievement

We have been exploring what it means to have a growth mind-set. We are learning to use positive language when discussing our learning.

P1a meet the ‘ m ‘ sound

P1a have amazed their teacher by working so hard at learning to make the ‘m’ sound. We have been making the m sound, describing how we make the m sound by closing our lips together, and explaining why the m sound is coloured red. We have also been working so hard at blending words beginning with m. Mason blended the word ‘ m-oo-n’ and was able to win the picture of the moon. We have also been using red paint to practise forming our m, and we stuck pieces of macaroni on an m template. We will be spending our short week identifying whether the m is at the start or end of a word by using our cat sticks.

Please follow p1a’s twitter page for the fantastic learning that takes place in the class  : @silvanasmithou1

P6 Outdoor Learning

Primary 6 had great fun completing a variety of outdoor learning cards in our playground and woodlands area.

The children created fantastic dens out of twigs and sticks for a small toy. They created symmetrical works of art using different natural objects.  Some groups made bird’s nest using natural materials. Twigs and leaves were used to make amazing Autumn art animals.

Primary 6 worked collaboratively in their groups and displayed fantastic examples of being Ready, Respectful and Safe.

P3B Learning Highlights 13/9/19

In Primary 3B this week we finished reading The Twits. We planned for our writing next week by coming up with a new trick that Mr or Mrs Twit could play on each other. We also made our own Roly-Poly Birds and put these up on the wall ourselves! For maths we have been focusing on place value and have played games to help identify hundreds, tens and units. On Friday morning we attended mass in the school.

Here are some of our learning highlights for the week:

“I enjoyed reading The Twits, it was really funny when they shrink.” – Aditya

“We have been saying what is the hundreds, the tens and the units. My favourite game is the basketball game” – Jude

“I liked doing the Roly-Poly Bird because we did lots of colouring and artwork” – Vivien

“We wrote about a trick that Mrs Twit or Mr Twit could do. It was fun writing it” – Sophia

P7B Outdoor Learning

As part of our regular Friday Outdoor Learning, this week P7B were taking part in two activities:

We were learning how to use flint and steel, cotton wool and petroleum jelly to light a fire in preparation for two weeks time when we are going to make toast at the fire pit.

The other task was to use sticks to make a frame and then create a picture using found materials from around our woodlands. We had some very different approaches!

P7B intend to be out regularly on a Friday and if parents can support us in providing children with a change of clothes and shoes (that are allowed to get muddy) and a waterproof coat/jacket, which takes account of Scotland’s usual weather, that would be a massive help.

Many Thanks,

Mr McGurn

P3A Learning Highlights 13th September 2019

This week we finished The Twits and we started writing about a new trick Mr or Mrs Twit could play. We went to Mass with p5 and p7a on Friday. We were very respectful and Miss Stebbing was extremely proud of us!

Here are are some of our learning highlights from this week.

Marriyah – I liked when we were doing The Twits and we were writing about a new trick.

Sam – I liked when we got to make Mr Twits face on our photograph. My beard was very long.

Josh – I was proud of us all singing nicely at Mass.

Emily – I was proud of our mime to act out a scene from the Twits.

Joshua – I liked playing games in maths to help us do the sums.

Inaya – I liked the Spin to Win game for place value. We beat Miss Stebbing!

Here are a couple of photos of our whiteboard work.

P1B Post

Hello Families of P1B!  I cannot believe we have been at school for one whole week and how far we have come!  The children are settling in very well and getting themselves organised quicker each day as they become more familiar with our routines.  Some highlights of our experiences at school so far are quoted as follows: Paige liked it when we chased each other around the room with feathers.  We were pretending to be Ticklish Two the swan.  Ticklish Two is a character in our Number Zoo that helps us learn how to form the number 2 correctly.  Markuss has loved meeting our Spanish friend ‘Paula’ the friendly caterpillar.  Paula has taught us how to say, “Hello, Goodbye and My name is” so far in Spanish.  Ishani S also claims that learning some Spanish has been her favourite part of Primary One so far.  Finally, Jonah thinks that cooking and tasting asparagus has been his highlight.  We were learning about asparagus as part of our ‘a’ phonics.  We look forward to all the exciting things coming up next week!  Watch this space….

Adam – We have been learning about writing adjectives in our stories.
Nilaya – We have been learning about partitioning numbers.
Marriyah – We have been learning about our rules.
Myles – We were learning about how to split up numbers. We used cubes to help us.
Daisy – We have been learning how to use the 100 cubes.
Edin – We have been learning about The Twits.
Sam – My favourite bit about The Twits was when Mrs Twit went up in the air with the balloons!
