Something that challenged us this week:

Vivaan – algebra; Owen – fractions of numbers; Sneha – stamina and endurance work in PE

P6B Update

Another excellent week of learning in primary 6!

The children have worked hard and have lots to share with their families.

Update from our lead learners:

**Video uploaded onto the class’ team page

Health and Well-being: HWB continues to be one of our main areas of focus in our learning and the children have been discussing their emotions through the  ‘Emotion works’ lessons.

Literacy: This week we were using description bubbles and our character description criteria to create interesting characters.  We also used this to describe characters from our class novel. We have started ‘Free Writing Friday’, a time where the class can be creative with their writing and put their ideas (any and all) on paper. This is the reverse of our ERIC time. We have been using the quote “reading is like breathing in and writing is like breathing out” to inspire us.

Numeracy/Maths: We have continued to work on decimals. We have been extending our place value knowledge to decimal place value. From this we have been looking at rounding and ordering decimals. We have also been identifying types of angles with Mrs Morrison.

IDL –  We have been learning about the design of buildings and what makes them strong. We took part in a design challenge and designed buildings that would be earthquake proof. We then used spaghetti and mini marshmallows to put our buildings to the test.

P2B Week Beginning 19th October

Hello Families!

I hope you all enjoyed our October break.  Our short week included some of the following highlights:

Layla enjoyed the autumn leaf art we made using soft pastels.  Yesterday you will have noticed that they children took home some beautiful autumn art.  They began by cutting out their own leaf templates, held them still on a black background and used their free hand to blend soft autumn coloured pastels around the template.  They all looked amazing when they were finished!

Jude liked listening to our class novel ‘The Smelliest Day at the Zoo’ by Alan Rusbridger.  The laughter has reached all corners of the school as the children have listened to how the animal’s poo piled up in the zoo as there was a problem with the drains.  We have learned some interesting things about animal poo this week:  it makes great fertilizer, a dung beetle can eat up to 50grams of poo a day (we then held a 50g weight and thought it would of been heavier!), male porcupines pee on female porcupines and turkey vultures pee and poo on themselves!  We were shocked!  Our story is now regretfully coming to an end.  The children are going to vote for their next novel which will be a choice between, ‘Horrid Henry Gets Rich Quick’ by Francesca Simon or ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl.

Alexa liked the prayers we wrote to God on leaf templates, thanking Him for all the beautiful colours around us just now in nature.  They are going to form a beautiful tree in the classroom on our RE display (look our for the picture next time).

DaisyDee was excited to hear about our new topic is called ‘Festivals and Celebrations’ and is particularly excited to learn about marriage after she heard we would be designing our own wedding dresses!

Mrs Devlin’s highlight was seeing the children again after the October break as I had missed them.

Primary 5A Learning Highlights 23/10/20

It has been a short week but Primary 5A have still managed to produce amazing work !

Numeracy  We have been learning to use the written method to add 3 and 4 digit numbers. Everyone tried to present their work neatly and complete their calculations accurately ! We have been trying hard to learn our table facts and improve our scores in our Big Maths weekly challenge.

Literacy  During our literacy lessons, we were “verb detectives” and searched for verbs within a passage based on the NASA spacecraft which touched down on an  asteroid .We learned that there are four different types of verbs, relating, thinking, saying and action. We also watched an interesting clip which showed us images of the actual event.

R.E.  We had a class discussion about God given talents and discovered that we are a very talented class! We also learned about the parable of talents and now understand that  if we share our talents and use them, God will trust us with more!

We are looking forward to our learning and challenges next week.

P5B – WB 19.10.20

Dear readers,

We hope you have had a nice week!😃

We have started our half week by sharing important things that had happened over the October holidays.😎

Mrs Valente was very proud of our last Big Maths scores since lots of boys and girls have managed to level up and are continuing doing a great job!

One of the first things we have done this week was to learn about an asteroid that is very far away from Earth because NASA sent a spacecraft there to collect samples of rocks and to explore it. It is so far away from here that the spacecraft will take more than 3 years to come back to Earth! Wow!

We have learned about different kinds of verbs that we didn’t know existed and we have tried to find them in a big text about the asteroid. Can you spot the forms of the verbs in our post?🤔🤔🤔🤔

We have started working in the Written method of column addition and we have done it with carrying also.

We have already finished drawing our elephants but still need to draw beautiful patterns on them so you won’t get to see them before next week, sorry!😊

We have learned to be grateful to God because of the Gifts and Talents that He gave us and we have done work about our own talents.

In PE we have been skipping and have been absolutely amazing at it!

As usual, we ended our week with Big Maths, Beat that and are looking forward to finding out about our scores next week!

We wish you a wonderful weekend!

Love from Primary 5B and Mrs Valente.💕

Primary 1A Update 23rd October 2020

This week we have been learning the sound ‘t’.  We had to write the sound carefully with superman. Our story was ‘Christopher Pumpkin’.  It was a scary and funny story. We think you should read the book.

In maths we have been learning about patterns.  We played a train game where we had to put the correct shape to finish the pattern.

At Outdoor Learning we were looking at the leaves in the Nursery garden.  There were orange, yellow, red and brown leaves.  We were throwing the leaves in the air.  We found a worm and a caterpillar.  We brought some leaves into the classroom and put them under paper to make leaf rubbings.

Our classroom is being changed for Halloween.  We have a Potion Shop and a Haunted House.

Some of our personal highlights:

Rebekah – I had fun playing outside with the leaves.

Lucas – I enjoyed playing the Halloween games.

Aiden S – I enjoyed drawing presents for my mummy.

Ollie – I enjoyed doing the pattern game.

Pola – I liked seeing the caterpillar.

Eva – I was having fun in school with the Halloween things.

Julia – I was having fun playing my friend.
