LUSH Livingston will be in school on Tuesday 24th April (this was previously arranged as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, was then cancelled due to snow/school closure and has now been re-scheduled) and after a presentation with the whole school, they will have a LUSH stall, where some products will be available to buy. If children wish to buy anything they should bring money in a purse/wallet/envelope. It would help if the younger children also brought a note of what parents would like them to buy and if the older children knew too. Please note that these products are subject to change depending on their delivery so LUSH can’t guarantee full availability on the day.
Paper crane fundraising
P6 were making paper cranes. In Japan they think if you make 1,000 paper cranes your wish will come true. Sadako Sasaki tried to make 1,000 cranes for her wish to come true an atomic bomb landed were she was and then she got blood cancer called leukemia. She died and didn’t manage to get 1,000 paper cranes but she got 644 and she died but then her class mates made the rest and put them in her coffin. People put a statue of her with a crane in her hand. They call it Oragami. Paper cranes are normally made out of colourful paper. If you want your own paper crane bring in 20p or 10p to buy your own one. You can buy it at the school fair on the 17.4.18. By Iona, Alicia and Lucy. Continue reading Paper crane fundraising

P7s Health and Well Being
Primary 7s enjoyed their first session today with Michelle from the West Lothian Drug and Alcohol Service.
Together, we created Ciggy Simon to record the impact tobacco can have on a person.
Michelle recommended websites for us to look at:
www.bbc.co.uk What’s in a cigarette?
Our Homework is to give something up for a week and replace it with a healthy alternative. We will record our progress daily and discuss this next time.
We discussed the chemicals in cigarettes – we learned that tar is in cigarettes and it is also found on road surfaces. It kills cilia, the small hairs that protect the lungs. It causes breathing problems and stains fingers and teeth. We also learned that it’s in a cigarette because tar is created when you burn two or more chemicals together.
Michelle will be with us again next week and we have more questions for her. We look forward to seeing her.
P1 Term 4 Learning Sways
PSA Minutes and Agenda
Primary 4 have fun making Roman shields!
Primary 4 have enjoyed learning about the life of a Roman soldier this week. The class used their knowledge to then write a job application to become a Roman soldier. They had to share their skills, qualities and hobbies and explain why this made them a good candidate to be a solider.
We also looked at the armour and weaponry of a soldier and decided to design and make our own Roman shields (A Scutum)! We looked at shield designs and discussed the different colours, patterns and symmetry. Have a look at our progress so far!
Term 3 Celebration Assembly
Today we welcomed parents and friends along to our Celebration Assembly so that pupils could receive their STEM Super Star and Successful Speller awards.
Certificates and prizes were also given to the children who won our Bookworm, STEM and Fairtrade Junior Leadership Team’s challenges and competitions, and to the 5 pupils who represented our school at the West Lothian Burns Contest. We also announced the Top Scorers for each house, along with our house winner.
A big thank you to Hannah Rarity for inspiring us by sharing her interpretation of our school motto, Believe, Achieve, Succeed, and for sharing her journey of hard work and determination to become the successful singer she is today. Thank you also to Leah, P6, who impressed us with her own musical talents and played ‘Clowns’ for us on the piano.
Well done to all of our award winners!
Amazing Bird Collages – It’s All About the Layers
At Second Level we have been creating multi-layered mixed media collages inspired by Mark Hearld. We created textured backgrounds with bright colours and then cut out our collage birds and figures. We added fine details and lines. Then we added more textured layers with tissue paper. We learned that it is important to make sure all the edges are stuck down to make a more professional artwork.
They then tried to evaluate their work looking at the visual elements. Next term we will TALK about Art more often as part of ACfE Evaluating and Appreciating Art. The work is on display around the corridors and hall. Tell us what you think.
P6’s bird collages
If you read last weeks blog P6 were making bird collages. This is P6’s finished bird collage. Here are some pictures. They are made with paint, tissue paper, normal paper and other materials that P6 had found. It was a lot of hard work. They where lots of different colours and we were inspired by the artist Mark Herold. We did this art work with ms brolls for about 2 weeks. This was a really fun experience of art and we recommend it to everyone.
