Learning Letters P2/3

Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome to Term 3 in Primary 2/3. All of the children have settled well into P2/3 and we are looking forward to a busy and fun term. Last term we enjoyed the BFG topic and our performance for a school panto. The highlights of the term ahead include our trip to Modern Art 1 in Edinburgh to look at the work of Joan Eardley and the sculpture gardens. All pupils have also now joined a Junior Leadership Team and look forward to making positive changes within our school this year.

Primary 2/1 Learning Letter

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to Term 3 in Primary 2/1. The highlights of last term included our Cops and Robbers IDL context for learning. Thank you to everyone who came along to our Open Afternoon during Scottish Book Week. The children very much enjoyed sharing their learning with you. Performing in the Nativity and the BFG Christmas was another highlight of Term 2, and I’m sure that you will all agree that the children did a fantastic job.

Winter Ready Homework: Primary 2 and Primary 3

Please find attached the P2 and P3 Burns Poems for our Annual Burns Competition. The pupils can select one of the poems for the competition. As part of their reading homework this week the pupils should learn as much of the poem that is appropriate for them (they do not need to read the whole poem). They should be able to read the poem without using the sheet and use expression. We will hold a mini Burns Competition in class on Friday 13th January. The winning pupils from both P2 and P3 classes will go through to the school Burns Competition on 20th January and their parents will be invited along.

As part of our Winter Ready preparation to show that you can access our blog, can you please leave a comment below to say which poem your child is learning.

Good luck!

Celebration Assembly- Term 2

Today we held our second Celebration Assembly to recognise the successes and achievements of children from across the school. We began with a welcome from Mr Povey, then shared the winners of our STEM Superstars and Remarkable Readers awards, as well as our top scorers and winning House- Calderwood. We also celebrated BB Bonkers’ success following their Dragons’ Den win yesterday.

A big well done to all of our award winners!

Primary 2 and 3: The BFG at Christmas!

Following their interdisciplinary context for learning on the BFG, this week Primary 2 and 3 presented their original The BFG at Christmas to our parents and carers. They showed us their creative skills through drama, singing and improvisation, well done Primary 2 and 3! Santa even made a surprise appearance at the end. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Le Petit Monde visits Mid Calder

This week we were delighted to welcome Tania Czajka, a french puppeteer to the school. Tania has her own puppet company called Le Petit Monde. The ethos behind all Tania’s shows are to introduce and develop french in a fun and stimulating way. Prior to Tania’s visit we had been set a challenge to learn some french. Fortunately for us we had completed our homework task of learning all the words and songs for the show. The show ‘Lapin Wants to Meet Santa’ was based on a naughty rabbit looking for something to heat him up, until he came up with a chocolat chaud or hot chocolate. As Lapin was sleeping Santa appeared on the stage and talked to the children in french. Through the performance there were many opportunities for audience participation and interaction with the different puppets, which made the show very entertaining. A big thank you to Tania for coming to perform for us and help us develop languages in the school in a fun and engaging way.
