P2 RME -Family celebrations

Good morning P2! I hope you have had a good weekend. I hope you are finding time to work, play and be with your family.

Today we are going to be learning to explore different family celebrations and understand how children are valued in Christianity. We are going to start by thinking about times in our life when we have family celebrations.

Step 1:- Talk to someone in your house about the types of family celebrations you might have.  What ideas did you come up with? What ideas did they come up with? Write them down on a piece of paper or in your jotter.

Step 2:- Look at the following pictures. Talk to someone in your house about what happens at a birthday, a wedding, an engagement and a christening.

Family Celebrations pictures.

Step 3:- For all of these celebrations we buy and receive cards.  Think about why we give cards. Write a list of all of the kinds of greeting cards you can think of .

Here is my list:-

  • Christmas
  • Easter
  • Birthday
  • Christening
  • Birth of a baby
  • Get well soon
  • Good Luck
  • Retirement
  • congratulations
  • Sympathy
  • Thank you
  • Mother’s day/Father’s day.
  • New home

Do you know why you might give a good luck, congratulations, sympathy or thank you card? Talk about it with someone in your house.  Can you pick out which ones are for Christian celebrations?

Step 4:- Choose any celebration you like and design a greetings card for it.  Remember to write inside of it as well. Have a look at the examples below.  These might give you ideas about what to draw. We need to know what kind of card it is so remember to use appropriate pictures or designs and words on the front of it too.

Have fun!

Air Puff Number Match

Monday 4th May 2020

At last here’s a use for all these empty toilet rolls we’ve managed to amass over the past few weeks! Miss Anderson sent me this idea and I think it’s a great game for developing both number recognition and fine motor skills. Click on the picture below to find out how to make it!

3: Next answer the questions that are underneath the picture and upload your answers. We’re going to use this picture for some more writing next week. (Questions also copied below.)

Have a great week!

Mrs Black

  • Where does the tunnel lead?
  • What is the source of the light?
  • Do you think the rabbit will go through?
  • Has it been through before?
  • How did it find out about the tunnel?
  • Would you go through it?
  • Write the rest of the story.

It’s so important that we remember to take of our minds as well as our bodies at the moment. This week I’d like you to spend some time exploring two websites:

Cosmic Kids – https://www.gonoodle.com/

These website both have fun exercises, and also calming mindfulness exercises. Children can do it themselves, or even try doing it as a family.

The 4 main activities have been set as assignments on Teams. Some of the activities have mild, spicy, hot and extra hot versions for you to choose from. Please make sure you are challenging yourself and using the other supporting resources to help you. Full instructions for each activity are on the learning grid, please read them carefully and if you have any questions you can ask us here or in the General Channel on Teams.

Mr Blackwood and I have also set challenges on Sumdog Spelling, Grammar and Maths so it would be great to see even more of you using it as we know how much you enjoy it. Have a great week and stay safe 😎🌈

Group 1 Phonics for Week Beginning Mon 4th May

Morning Group 1 Phonics Pupils and Parents,

I hope you managed to access some of the RWInc Videos and resources last week. We were joining in from my house as well (my daughter is also P.2)!

This week they will be doing the RWInc live lessons Mon – Thurs, not Friday. I can only presume this is to do with English holidays.

This week they’ll be covering v, y, w and z. If you are joining in the live lessons, this is more than enough practise, so treat steps 2-4 below as optional extras. If you can’t access the YouTube videos, then Steps 2-4 below will provide plenty other activities.

1: Go to Ruth Miskin Training on youtube. Watch Set 1 Speed Sounds, Word Time & Spelling lessons. They start at 9.30, 9.45 & 10am, but will be available for 24hrs so you can watch later in the day. I’ve found it easier to go on half hour later than the live time to avoid the delay. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

Optional Extras

2: Go to the Oxford Owl website (all children should have been given a login). Login first, then come back to this page and click this link.  Set 1 Speed Sounds book – this is an interactive book that lets your child practise the letter formation directly on the screen. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/29318.html

3: Staying on the Oxford Owl page, if you scroll down slightly from the Set 1 Speed Sounds, you’ll see individual Speed Sound practice sheets. Select the one that matches each days phonics video. If you have access to a printer, print off the relevant sheet. If you don’t, try and do something similar on a blank piece of paper, or in your child’s home learning jotter. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-schemes-oxford-levels/read-write-inc-phonics-guide/#set1

4: Practice the Speedy Green Words – https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/29096.html

Hopefully all the links work and you manage to access everything. Finally, there’s a lot of content here. Please don’t feel you have to do it all, just dip in and out of what you can, and what works around your family / work / life balance.

Groups 2, 3 & 4 Phonics for Week Beginning 4th May

Morning Phonics Pupils and Parents,

I hope you managed to access some of the Live RWInc lessons or use some of the resources last week. We’ve been joining in from my house as well as my daughter is also P.2! This week they’ll be running the lessons Monday – Thursday, not Friday. I’m guessing this is something to do with English holidays. If you are joining in with the live lessons for Sounds & Spelling, this is more than enough. If you’re not managing to access the YouTube channel, use the Optional Extras below.

Groups 2, 3 & 4 will still be following Set 2, and this week they will be covering air, ir, ou, oy. For some this will be consolidation, and for others it will be completely new.

1: Go to Ruth Miskin Training on youtube. Watch Set 2 Speed Sounds & Word Time at 10am, then the Spelling at 10.15am. The videos will be available for 24hrs so you can watch later in the day. TOP TIP: I’ve found it easier to go onto the channel half hour later than the live, so it’s definitely there and it avoids the live delay that sometimes happens.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

Optional Extras

2: Go to the Oxford Owl website (all children should have been given a login). Login first, then come back to this page and click this link.  Set 2 Speed Sounds book – this is an interactive book that you can use to practise the sounds again, or even use the pen tool to practise writing over the top on the screen. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/29317.html

3: Staying on the Oxford Owl page, if you scroll down slightly from the Set 2 Speed Sounds, you’ll see individual Speed Sound practice sheets. Select the one that matches each days phonics video. If you have access to a printer, print off the relevant sheet. If you don’t, try and do something similar on a blank piece of paper, or in your child’s home learning jotter. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-schemes-oxford-levels/read-write-inc-phonics-guide/#set1

4: Practice the Speedy Green Words. Try these first https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/29097.html

If your child found these words easy and read them at sight without sounding out, try these ones https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/29093.html

Hopefully all the links work and you manage to access everything. Finally, there’s a lot of content here. Please don’t feel you have to do it all, just dip in and out of what you can, and what works around your family / work / life balance.
