Vegetables Harvested

Way before the Summer holidays the children planted carrots, beetroot, lettuce, spring onions and onions. They helped to look after the plants by watering, pulling out weeds and thinning them out when they grew big enough. When we returned after the summer break we were amazed how they had grown and that there were no weeds to be seen!!! The children helped to dig up the vegetables, wash them and cut them up for snack.  They all tasted absolutely yummy!!! Lets hope we are as successful next time round!!

New Children Settling In

Our new children have now settled in and are enjoying their nursery experience. They have all established a ‘good bye’ routine with their parent/carer and some are beginning to make new friendships. Our returners have been very good role models and helped the new children settle by helping them follow the rules and routines of the nursery. There will be more children starting over the next few months.

P1 Transition

The pre-school children started off their transition with a Glow meet link with the Primary 1 school children. This went very well and let our nusery children listen to their friends in P1 telling them what they have been learning about. The P1’s drew pictures and messages on the whiteboard which the nursery children could see and respond to with their own pictures!! It was very exciting. Since then the children have been over to the school for classroom visits where they listened to a story read by the P1 teacher and drew pictures. They have also had a visit to the playground and lined up with the P1’s before going into a story with them. Buddies have now been identified from the school and we are having a Glow meet with them before they  visit the nursery to see our children.

Potato Harvest

Mr McNee our local farmer and Alastair’s daddy came back to visit the nursery children to help harvest our potatoes. The children have been very good at looking after the potatoes and have enjoyed seeing the different stages of growth. We managed to get 32 potatoes of varying sizes weighing in at 500g.  One even looked like a snowman!! We have sent our results off to the Royal Highland Education Trust who are running the competition for the heaviest and most potatoes harvested! A great big Thank You to Mr McNee for all his input!

Fun Day Fun!

The weather stayed beautiful this year for our Fun Day. The children enjoyed a bouncy castle, beat the goalie, hook a duck, tombolas, hot dogs, face painting and home baking. We had an eco stall where the children could re-cycle their toys by bringing along one in good condition to swap with one on the stall! A great day was had by all!!

Artie's Olympics

At the end of May we took part in a fund raising event, Artie’s Olympics, for the British Heart Foundation. We had a lovely sunny day for both sessions and all the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  They had to complete 5 activities eg. wellie wanging, mini assault course, jumping beans, hoopla and traffic lights. The children raised the fantastic amount of £402.80!! Well done everyone!

Celebrating Success

We are very proud to announce that we have achieved our Silver Award for Eco Schools. A huge ‘Thank You’ must go to Mrs Purvis, supply nursery nurse and mum of Ellie (am session) for all her hard work collating and co-ordinating activities, display board and eco evidence, for this award. Very well done also to all the children and staff for their hard work helping to achieve this. Next year we plan to continue and extend this work so that we can achieve our Green Flag!!!  Keep up the good work everyone!!!!

Safari Park Outing

We had a fantastic day out at Blair Drummond Safari Park recently. All the nursery children, parents, carers and staff had a wonderful day and despite an early morning flurry of snow, the day developed into a very warm and sunny one!!!
