Chinese New Year

We celebrated Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rabbit in the nursery. The children had the opportunity to practice chinese writing, learn the story of the famous animals of Chinese New Year and watched a dvd about how chinese families celebrate their New Year. The children also had the opportunity to taste various chinese food. Some children made lovely chinese fans and chinese lanterns to add to our beautiful chinese display!

Burns Supper

We celebrated Robert Burns’ birthday in the nursery through a week of various scottish activities. The children in both sessions learned and practised scottish poems to take part in a special Scottish Glow meet. Our children performed to other schools and nurseries in West Lothian through Glow and were magnificent!  We then enjoyed our special Burns Supper snack where the children were able to taste tatties, haggis and neeps. Elaine Webster visited the nursery to tell the children some scottish stories and learn some scottish words.

Christmas Parties

The nuresry children enjoyed their Christmas Parties yesterday. Both sessions played party games, sang christmas songs, danced and had a special christmas snack! All the parents, grandparents, carers and friends of the families were invited to see the children receive their presents from Santa! Everyone have a lovely cosy Christmas and a Healthy & Happy New Year! See you all in January!

Christmas Fayre

The Enterprise Group were very busy preparing for the Christmas Fayre held over at the primary school. The Group organised tombolas for both adults and children. They took orders for names on christmas baubles and sold various items made by them and the children. Thank you to all who donated in any way to our successful christmas fundraising. We raised the fantastic amount of £357.27.   Well Done!!!!

Eco Greenhouse

There has been a fantastic response to our bottle collection for the Eco Greenhouse.  On Wednesday evening some parents volunteered to come along to the nursery to help cut the ends off the bottles and build them up into strips for easier storage. We have so far collected and prepared just over half the quantity required. Well done and a huge thank you to everyone!! Keep collecting and bring bottles along washed and labels removed, after the Christmas break!!

Spotty Fun Day

On Thursday, 18 November the children and staff enjoyed a Spotty Fun Day in aid of Children In Need. The Enterprise Group organised various activities such as Pudsey and Blush crafts, Pin the Patch on Pudsey, cutting Pudsey sandwiches for snack, baking and decorating Pudsey cakes and face painting. Most of the children came dressed to  nursery wearing something spotty. We raised a fantastic total of £104 for the Children In Need Charity! Well done to everyone who contributed!

Baking Scones

We have started baking scones for snack in both sessions. The children enjoy this experience and like to help. This life skill not only teaches them about how to make scones but also teaches them about hygiene, numeracy (counting how many spoonfuls), literacy as we use a recipe book and critical skills, because the children will tell us if they don’t like them!!!

Autumn Activities

As Autumn arrives we are starting to learn some Autumn songs. The children helped to set up an Autumn display, which has generated a lot of interest and we will be going out for Autumn walks to collect leaves, pine cones etc for the display. Our HNC student will be carrying out an Autumn art activity with the children using the leaves collected from their walk.

One of our Autumn songs the children are learning is:

(Tune to Frere Jacques)

Brown leaves falling, brown leaves falling,

On the ground, on the ground,

Autumn time is coming, Autumn time is coming,

All around, all around.
