Happy New Year!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a  Happy New Year.  The children are now all settled back into their nursery routine and looking forward to lots of new and exciting learning opportunities. Before the holidays there was great excitement waiting for Santa to arrive and lots of fun was had by all at our Christmas Parties

Welcome

Welcome Edit

A very warm welcome to Eastertoun Nursery School. We are a stand alone nursery school within the grounds of Eastertoun Primary School. We have 70 children  – 35 morning session and 35 afternoon session –  aged 3-5 years. Most of our children go on to Eastertoun Primary School and live in the Armadale area. Mrs Susan Cowan is the Head Teacher.

Health Week

We had our Health Week recently which was a packed week of fun and learning for the children. We started the week off with a visit from A&E at St Johns Hospital. They explained to the children about the procedures for attending to broken bones. (A couple of the children in the nursery have plaster casts on!!) Mrs Gardner volunteered to have her arm put in a half plaster cast to let the children see what happens. Once it was set the children were able to role play with the cast.

Tuesday was a fun Zumba day with the children from both sessions enjoying exercise with Michelle Brown out in the nursery garden. The children really enjoyed this session, as did the staff!!

Wednesday we made a lovely exotic fresh fruit salad for snack. Good discussion took place about the various fruits, textures, colours, smell etc. The children helped prepared the fruit salad.

Thursday we played games centred around the Eat Well Plate. The children had to decide which were healthy foods and which were not.

The week culminated in a practice for our Sports Day. As it was a gorgeous day practices took place on the school playing field. The children had a fabulous morning taking part in the various potted sports.

Christmas Fayre

The Enterprise Group were very busy preparing for the Christmas Fayre held over at the primary school. The Group organised tombolas for both adults and children. They took orders for names on christmas baubles and sold various items made by them and the children. Thank you to all who donated in any way to our successful christmas fundraising. We raised the fantastic amount of £357.27.   Well Done!!!!

New Children Settling In

Our new children have now settled in and are enjoying their nursery experience. They have all established a ‘good bye’ routine with their parent/carer and some are beginning to make new friendships. Our returners have been very good role models and helped the new children settle by helping them follow the rules and routines of the nursery. There will be more children starting over the next few months.

P1 Transition

The pre-school children started off their transition with a Glow meet link with the Primary 1 school children. This went very well and let our nusery children listen to their friends in P1 telling them what they have been learning about. The P1’s drew pictures and messages on the whiteboard which the nursery children could see and respond to with their own pictures!! It was very exciting. Since then the children have been over to the school for classroom visits where they listened to a story read by the P1 teacher and drew pictures. They have also had a visit to the playground and lined up with the P1’s before going into a story with them. Buddies have now been identified from the school and we are having a Glow meet with them before they  visit the nursery to see our children.

Fun Day Fun!

The weather stayed beautiful this year for our Fun Day. The children enjoyed a bouncy castle, beat the goalie, hook a duck, tombolas, hot dogs, face painting and home baking. We had an eco stall where the children could re-cycle their toys by bringing along one in good condition to swap with one on the stall! A great day was had by all!!

Safari Park Outing

We had a fantastic day out at Blair Drummond Safari Park recently. All the nursery children, parents, carers and staff had a wonderful day and despite an early morning flurry of snow, the day developed into a very warm and sunny one!!!
