Gala Day Preparations

The nursery recognises the importance of the Gala Day to the local community and has participated in the procession since it opened in 1979!!! Every year parents are invited to form a nursery Gala Committee. They are responsible for the final decision and design of the outfits that the nursery participants will wear. The Committee have to source and work out all that is needed to make the outifts. They then have to organise making up a pack for everyone who is taking part. They often involve the wider parent body by having an evening in the nursery. The jobs are wide ranging and can include making wigs, cutting material and even making cups of tea to keep everyone going!!! This years’ gala preparations and well under way with the theme decided upon and items being sourced. This is a special year for Armadale Gala Day as they celebrate 100 years of processions! We are all looking forward to this special celebration!

Group Time

Each child is allocated to a key group. This gives them the opportunity to form friendships and get to know a small group of children well. This can be very important for quiet and shy children in a large busy nursery. Many friendships start amongst members of the key group. Our group colours are Red Group – Mrs Cowan; Yellow Group – Mrs Patterson; Green Group – Mrs Gardner and Blue Group – Mrs Lynch/Mrs Kemp.

Group time  is a special quiet time and gives staff the opportunity to promote a range of skills such as emotional literacy, listening skills, numeracy and a range of adult led activities in line with our curriculum ‘A Curriculum for Excellence’.

Chinese New Year

The children had fun celebrating Chinese New Year with week long activities focused on the Year of the Tiger!! The face painting was a great success and many of the children tasted the various chinese food on offer.

Parents Help with Big Dig Day!

A group of parents gave up their Saturday morning recently to help dig in our nursery garden. A lot of hard work was done with tyres being dug in to form planting areas; the rocky dug over and cleared out; planters dug in to the ground and a bird table erected! It was a very wet muddy day but all the parents worked really hard and our garden is now looking so much better!! We all finished off our successful dig with bacon rolls and a hot drink!! Well done to all who helped,  big ‘Thank You’!

Shoe Bags

The Enterprise Group have started work on the shoe bags – a gift to all pre-school children from the Group. These are handed out on the last day of summer term. The shoe bags have been very popular and well used, with positive feedback from Eastertoun Primary School.

Eco Helpers Launched

We have now got our Eco helpers all set to carry out their important roles in the nursery. Eco helpers are a group of children picked each week and have specific tasks to makes sure e.g. all taps are turned off; paper towels are not getting wasted and litter is picked up in the nursery gardens. They have special bands and badges to wear so they are easily identified as our Eco helpers!!
