GLENVUE ELF ON THE SHELF UPDATE

Hannah’s Report:

Emily the Elfie on the Shelfie got up to hijinks with our Christmas Tree and climbed all the way up to the top to sit with our star. Mummy had a chat with her to remind her that the tree is not a toy and that sometimes the lights can get very hot, she needs to be more careful as she could have burnt herself or worse the tree could have fallen on top of her, Elf and Safety!!! Hahahhaha

After dinner and bath time; Hannah and Emily enjoyed a game of snap and Emily won pairing some 4’s,  it was then time for bed where the wily Emily enjoyed a story with Hannah, Peter Pan recited by Hannah. Once done Emily and Hannah enjoyed a big bedtime cuddle and she was placed in prime position to watch over Hannah and her sister Rachel ALL night while they slept and never once left their beds.

We hope Emily enjoyed her stay with us, we very much enjoyed having her with us

CHRISTMAS IS COMING AND THE NURSERY CHILDREN ARE BUSY.

We all look forward to December in Glenvue Nursery as it is a magical time. We have been busy making things to sell at our craft fair which is held in the school building on Friday 9th December at 10.30 till 12.

Please come long and see all the lovely decorations, gifts and edible goodies that the nursery, school children and Parent helpers have been creating. There will also be raffles and prizes too.

In Glenvue’s workshop we have been making Wooden Christmas trees which we are selling at £15. No two are the same, as these are unique items. This has been a team effort by the children and numbers are limited so please get along early if you want to purchase one.

We are also making individual calendars which make lovely Christmas presents for grandparents and relations. These need to be pre-ordered and you can do this by completing the slip below and handing it to the nursery staff with payment. Your child will be photographed with a friend and will be in colour on an A4 full year calendar sheet.

We would appreciate it if your child could wear a Christmas jumper on the day of the Christmas performance of ‘It’s a baby.’

Dear Named Child

Thank you for listening to the story called ‘Elf on the Shelf.’ It tells us about an elf whose responsibility it is to watch over children’s behaviour and report it to Santa each night while the children are sleeping.

Glenvue Nursery are lucky to have a small team of elves. You will take home an elf for the evening and then return it to nursery the next day to allow the elf to visit another child’s home. Therefore it is very important to return Santa’s Elf on time as he has a busy schedule to complete before Christmas. To preserve the magic, the rule is that at bedtime the elf must sit on a shelf not be in your bed so that they can return to Santa with their report.  The story can also be watched on youtube if you type in ‘Elf on the Shelf families with purpose’ or copy the link:-  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6aQek-pP54

While the Elf is in your home the first job is for the family to name the elf. Elf loves to play Hide ‘n’ Seek and you can get a grown up to help you play. You can then take a photograph of the elf’s visit which can be sent direct to the nursery via email with any information or stories you wish to share. This can be sent to karen.keegan@westlothain.org.uk  We will then share the pictures and stories in the nursery and also on the Dedridge Primary/Glenvue Nursery’s School Blog. You are invited to visit the site to catch up with the Elf’s visits. Type in the search bar :-

Thank you for looking after me and be good for Santa.

Lots of Love

Our Bottle Shelter – 1 year on!

It has now been 1 year since the completion of our Bottle Shelter. It has provided the children with lots of imaginative play opportunities. We will continue to develop our outdoor learning areas throughout this session 2016/2017. Children representing the school’s responsibility group for ‘Outdoor Improvement’ have already started to sand our wooden train in preparation for re-painting.

Our Nursery Learning Wall

Our Learning Wall

  • Children and staff plan their learning together through the use of the talking box, questions and mind-maps. This way of working helps to put the child at the centre of their learning and build on their prior knowledge and understanding whilst involving them in what they would like to find out about, how they are going to do that and how they demonstrate their learning.
  • The learning is evidenced through the use of the floorbook and their learning wall.
  • Parents are encouraged to support this planning by sharing experiences from home which are linked to the line of development.

Daily Weather Report

Daily Weather Report : Developing Confidence in Glenvue Nursery

At Glenvue Nursery we are given the opportunity to report the weather to the class. We must use our senses to help us decide what we should wear to stay safe while playing outside.  We must speak to the audience using a  clear voice into the microphone. As we take part we are learning to become confident individuals.

What’s cooking in the kitchen?

The children of Glenvue nursery are learning about technologies and how different tools can help us. Today in the kitchen we used peelers, knives, measuring spoons and a food processor to prerpare lentil soup. Josh told us “I press the button – it has a knife to chop it up.” They  were able to share with the other children that they were “using a food processor, it helps us in the kitchen. it’s really fast.” We enjoyed the healthy Lentil Soup for snack – Mrs Keegan said it was ‘delicious’.
