Primary 7 are excited to announce that Dedridge PS are now recycling and reusing all classroom waste! Crisp packets are being sent back to Walkers for recycling, we are now a recycling centre for writing implements like old pens and Pringle tubes, milk cartons are washed and recycled, food waste and pencil sharpenings are composted and any non recyclable plastics like the cellophane from straws are put into eco bricks which are then used to make things. We are just about to send each child home with a box to recycle batteries in. This has been a massive undertaking for P7.
We have launched the Eco Brick initiative and every class has been given an eco brick to fill and have fun with. Primary 7 have called theirs McScarecrow and she has a kilt made out of crisp packets. Probably next years fashion must have!

The Plastic Politicians
Hi, we are The Plastic Politicians. We are leading the waste minimisation initiative for the Eco Flag. We are aiming to either recycle or reuse everything that Dedridge Primary School throws away. One of the first things we will be doing is an audit of all the types of rubbish we throw away so we can decide what to do with them. We also want to organise regular book swaps.
The Funky Food Farmers
Hi, we are the Funky Food Farmers and we are leading the Dedridge Farm. We are buying a polytunnel big enough to fit a whole class in so that we can grow food all year round and cook it at school. We would like to grow soft fruit so we are buying fruit cages to keep birds and small animals from eating the fruit. We will keep the fruit cages in the Bee Garden to help pollination and attract more bees.
The Litter Legends
Hi, we are The Litter Legends. In our litter group we have decided that we need to relocate the bins in the playground so they are closer to the gates and where parents stand to collect their children. We are also going to the Lanthorn Pond to tidy up all the rubbish so that the swans and the ducks don’t get injured by it. We are organising a rota for the whole school so that the playground and the car park is litter free every week.
We have a vegetable bed!
Amazing teamwork today with Primary 6 and 7 helping to dig out our very first vegetable patch as part of our farm. Well done to them all!
Bronze Badge Winner!!
We are very proud to announce that Megan in P6 is the winner for our Bronze Award Design-a-Badge competition!
Our pupil council picked their favourite 3 designs out of all the applications, then everyone in the school voted for the one they liked best!
We hope you like the new badge! Ask your child to tell you about the Bronze Award and the steps they are taking to make sure they win a badge!
