Fairtrade Fortnight

The boys and girls have been busy celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight with lots of fun and yummy activities.  We had an altogether sit down ‘Big Breakfast’ with freshly made pancakes, bananas and hot chocolate all made from Fairtrade ingredients.  In order to make the breakfast extra special the children wore their pyjamas and onsies.  Outdoors we have been baking bananas with milk chocolate on our fire pit.  Tesco local champion Tracey came to visit us and brought along lots of Fairtrade goodies to make banana lollipops and teach us about the people that Fairtarde helps.  Scotmid very generously donated £20 of vouchers and the Wraparound children took a walk to the local store to buy various Fairtrade products for snack and for baking.  The children also kept an eye out for Fairtrade products in their home and brought the packaging in for our display.

Countdown until hatching!

The countdown has begun!  With under one week until our chicks are due to hatch we are all very excited at nursery.  Please come into the parents area and have a look for yourself to see if you can spot any cracking or hear any tweeting from inside the eggs!

We hope to have our live ‘chick cam’ on Glow in operation as of Monday 14th of March.  If you have an older child at school, they can login to Glow and you can watch for signs of the chicks hatching at home.

Keep checking the blog for an update……

Stay, Play and Learn

Thank you to all parents and carers who came to Stay, Play and Learn this week.  We hope you all had a lovely time learning alongside the children at nursery.  Thank you to everyone who completed an evaluation form.

Pizza Chefs

The nursery children have enjoyed making and tasting pizzas this week for snack.  When discussing the types of pizza that they like to eat, during writing a shopping list for the following weeks snack, the children discovered that they liked different/similar  toppings on their pizzas.  They decided they should make their own pizzas for snack, so then had a discussion to decide on which toppings they would like to order.   The boys and girls worked well together in small groups to create delicious vegetarian, chicken and pepperoni pizzas.   Lots of collaboration, cooperation, compromising and problem solving took place to ensure everyone was in agreement and happy about the choice of topping on each pizza…….

Eggciting News.

Carolynn from ‘Wee Crackers’ came to visit us at nursery and told us all about the life cycle of a chicken.  We were really keen to learn more about this process and agreed that we are responsible enough to look after some eggs at nursery.  Over the next few weeks we will take turns at group time to check up on the eggs and discuss the changes that are happening inside the eggs.  Please have a look at the eggs in the incubator in the parents area and the count down chart and chick floor book.   We will set up a ‘chick cam’ on our BEYC Glow meeting space when the chicks are due to hatch so our brothers, sisters, cousins and friends in West Lothian Primary Schools and nurseries can share this ‘eggciting eggsperience’ with us.

I am learning about where living things come from and about how they grow, develop and are nurtured. HWB 0-50a
