This week children have been exploring different textures making slime we have found a recipe that works really well… We have been pulling, stretching, cutting, smelling, rolling and squishing it!

On seeking further guidance from West Lothian Council regarding setting up a social media account, a BEYC Twitter account is now active.
All our Blog posts will be automatically posted onto our Twitter and if you ‘follow’ @wlbeyc on Twitter you will be kept up to date of new posts on the Blog, by clicking on the link.
October Holiday.
Nursery will now be closed for the October Holiday and will resume on Tuesday 24th October 2017. Wraparound is open as normal.

Well done to Mid Calder and Kirknewton Primary Schools who have also been recognised as having National Digital School Award status for excellence in digital technology in teaching and learning.
Donna McMaster, West Lothian Council’s head of service for education curriculum, quality improvement and performance:
“Bathgate Early Years Centre was the first facility to pick up the prestigious award in West Lothian, and it is believed to be the first early years centre in Scotland to achieve the accolade.
“It is fantastic to see the work which has been achieved to embed technology into the school ethos and how technology is being embraced by the pupils, staff, parents and carers.”

Independent Snack Routine.
We made a little video using the GoPro yesterday afternoon to show everyone at home just how independent we are at following the nursery snack routine. It is not easy and there is a lot to remember e.g. washing hands, finding snack card, counting amounts of food, deciding which bin to use for food and milk cartons and not to forget just how tricky it is to open the milk straw wrapper! (The GoPro is not allowed to be worn in the bathrooms, however for the purpose of this video it is worn under adult supervision).

Fire Pit Safety.
The new boys and girls are learning how to safely use the fire pit at nursery this week and returning children are refreshing their knowledge of the safety procedures. Please have a look at the link below for a step by step video, recorded on the GoPro at the beginning of this year to share how we safely use the fire pit.
This term we are focusing on how to safely make and put out fire and how to cook toast a marshmallow/piece of bread or cheese on a stick.
Next term we will learn how to cook banana splits and damper bread safely on the fire pit.

Once we have all had a turn to toast a marshmallow we have got to put the fire out to make the area safe.
