Thank you to one of our nursery girls for accepting the Try at Home ‘Family Challenge! She has made a fantastic book, detailing her adventure. She passes a river and goes through a forest just like in the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’! Please have a look at the video we recorded this morning, of her reading her story to find out more. This year to Celebrate Burns Day we had a very special surprise, our West Lothian College Student Chloe and Miss Collins very kindly brought in the bagpipes and snare drum and played for all the children. Also a big thank you to Mrs McKay for cooking us a fantastic Burns supper to have for snack. We Spent the day dressing up in kilts, reading Scottish poems and stories, listening to Scottish Music, creating Tartan paintings and celebrating Scottish Culture.

Last week we published a Blog post about our latest Box Clever topic, the extremely popular story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. Today during group time the Red afternoon group discovered a video of a family acting out the story, when looking for an animated version and we love it!
This version of the story is slightly different, by adding in a mountain in place of the snow and mud, but that made it all the more exciting! We also enjoyed the repetition of the rhythm of the footsteps as the family walked.
After group time we had a try of acting out part of the story with Miss Collins. Can you watch and listen and tell which part of the story we were acting out?

We plan to add more parts of the story over the next few weeks but we need some help, so here is the family challenge for you to try at home……
Can you record a part of the story, while narrating the words? Miss Wilkinson and Miss Kelly can help you download the footage from your camera or mobile device, memory card etc in nursery to add it to our video clips (files will probably be too large in size to send by email).
We can’t wait to to see who will join in helping us make our very own digital version of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen.
What a wonderful day we have had out playing in the snow!
In the morning we were problem solving and risk assessing how to keep ourselves safe when sledging down the hill and working in collaboration to design and build a very creative “snow monster” with various loose parts selected by the children.
The afternoon children used their imagination to open an ‘ice cream shop’ and took turns to pull each other on the sledges. These children used the loose parts to make some fantastic transient art collage in the snow.
Children love the experience of playing and learning in the snow. Here is an interesting article from Community Play Things all about the benefits and how to ensure they are nice and cosy.
