Great Gritter Excitement at BEYC! ❄️
There was great excitement yesterday when a gritter drove up the nursery driveway to spread grit. Many of the children did not know about the important job gritters do and were intrigued when we told them that some of the gritters have names! Did you know you can track the gritters and find out what they are named on the Transport Scotland Trunk Road Gritter Tracker website?
📸📱📧📝🖍🎨Snow Nursery Try at Home🛷 ⛄️ ❄️ 🌬🌨
Here are some ideas for you to try at home…..
Can you draw, paint and write all about your snow day on a piece of paper then bring it into nursery when we return? You can record things like what you spent the day doing, what the snow looked like, who you were with, how the snow made you feel, what the most fun thing about your day was, what you had to eat, how you kept warm, what you wore etc. You can share your snow day events when we are back at nursery with your friends!
If you are feeling even more creative and have some spare flour, salt etc in your kitchen cupboards why don’t you have a look at some easy no cook play dough recipes on The Imagination Tree website? Please let us know how you get on? Who will try one of the recipes for Natural Play Dough? Goldilocks and the Three Bears might like the porridge oats play dough?! Remember to be careful with hot/boiling water and let a grown up do that part.
Why don’t you send some photographs or short video clips of your snow day by email and we can make a slide show when we are back at nursery and chat about what we spent the day doing? Photos/video clips can be emailed to Miss Wilkinson: eva.wilkinson@westlothian.org.uk
There are some good ideas on Twitter too. @wlbeyc will retweet ideas from other schools and ELC centres throughout the day to help keep you busy! Here is another try at home challenge from a Livingston P2 teacher’s Twitter account. Who will give it a try?

Fairtrade Fortnight 2018
Fairtrade Fortnight takes place from 26th February-12th March 2018. We have been talking about this in nursery and how farmers around the world deserve a fair price for the hard work they do and that Fairtrade products help ensure this happens. This will mean the farmers and their children won’t go hungry, can go to school, can pay for medical care if needed and also have better living conditions.
We are having a Fairtrade raffle on Wednesday 7th March and are looking for Fairtrade products to support this. We have also asked local supermarkets. If you can help, please add your donations to the basket in the foyer. We are supporting this years ‘Toilet Twinning’ program, please take a look at the video below to see how these donations are helping children around the world…
‘Bridget in Uganda used to miss class in order to fetch drinking water from a stream. Now, clean water is piped to a tapstand at her school, thanks to Toilet Twinning. She’s learnt the importance of washing her hands – and she’s passed this info on to her parents’

A big thank you to everyone who has already donated!
Getting it Right at BEYC
At Bathgate Early Years Centre we are always striving to get it right for all our children.
Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) is the national approach in Scotland to improving outcomes and supporting the wellbeing of our children and young people by offering the right help at the right time from the right people.
To support our children in developing their understanding of wellbeing we have begun to use some characters from a recent Care Inspectorate document ‘ Our Creative Journey’. We plan to use the characters to engage the children and support their discussion and learning. As learning opportunities arise we will build on the children’s understanding of the 8 Wellbeing Indicators. As we were looking at Safer Internet Day we had alot of discussion about how do we keep safe and what that means for the children. Please take a moment to look at our display in the nursery entrance.
