Christmas Sing-A-Long on Glow

We are taking part in a Christmas Sing-A-Long  in  ‘Marshmallow World’ on a West Lothian Glow site.   All schools across the county have been invited to take part by recording and uploading their rendition of a familiar Christmas song.  We hope we get lots of ‘likes’ on our videos!

Well done to all the boys and girls who sang their hearts out even although they were all very warm and tired after a Nativity dress rehearsal!  Didn’t they do well?

We would like to share our learning near and far and encourage readers to come to our blog. Please don’t share pictures and videos from our blog but instead share a link to our blog and bring your friends and family to us.

What is inside a BeeBot?

Some of our Beebots are broken and we wanted to investigate what was inside them and how they work…..
We used screwdrivers to take off the shells and torches, cameras and magnifying glasses to help us see all the little parts inside a BeeBot.
We looked in books and on the internet to help us learn some more about how all the parts work together.
Some of us worked together to help hold the BeeBot still while our friend loosed off the screws.
We are learning new words…
“These wires need fixed for it to go fast again.”
“I think it just needs more battery.”
“These wires keep it working.”
“The green thing (circuit board) is like a brain.”

Please have a look in our Learner’s Journeys to find out more.

LIT 0-10a As I listen and take part in conversations and discussions, I discover new words and phrases which I use to help me express my ideas, thoughts and feelings.
SCN 0-04a I have experienced, used and described a wide range of toys and common appliances. I can say ‘what makes it go’ and say what they do when they work.

Harvest Learning Story so far……..

Last month in nursery in both morning and afternoon sessions, children observed apples falling from the apple trees in the orchard……  produce in the orchard and greenhouse was ready to harvest…… In small groups children visit the orchard to  look, touch, smell and water the fruit trees/plants and vegetables…….. There was lots of interest in ‘The Giant Turnip’ story and ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ story.

Have a look at our Harvest Learning Story to find out where the children’s interest and ideas have taken us………

Goodbye Butterflies

We have now said goodbye to most of our butterflies that we have looked after ever since they arrived as tiny little caterpillars in the post!   Over the last few weeks we have observed them growing and changing (metamorphosis) and building their own cocoons where they hid away for just over a week.   It was a very exciting time to watch them hatch from their cocoons as beautiful butterflies.  Please come into nursery and look at our learning stories to learn more.    Our Butterfly Garden School Kit came from Insect Lore .

The Blue group would like to say a special thank you to butterfly expert Emma Johnston from Butterfly Conservation Scotland.  Emma very kindly took the time to answer the email we sent with all our very important questions to help extend our learning.  Thank you Emma!

Children’s Questions

Learning at home.

We are taking turns to watch this lovely short film ‘Sweet Cocoon’ on the SmartBoard at group time as part of our  ongoing New Life topic.

The morning children have asked for it to be put onto the Blog so they can watch it at home and share it with their families.

Look out for the very quick surprise ending!

Please remember to supervise children when looking at online clips.  For more information on how to keep children safe online please see Think U Know and Net Aware.
