Looking after our local environment.

Today we had a visit from Environmental enforcers David , Alan and some of the team from  NETS and Land Services WLC  to talk to the children about looking after our environment, focusing on picking up litter and dog poo.

Children enjoyed the interactive session, looking at pictures and video clips on the Smartboard and loved to see nursery staff dress up as if they were going to work in the rubbish dump for the day!

The team have provided us with lots of dog poo bags and reflective strips to wear to show you are a responsible dog owner and clean up the mess.  Please feel free to take home bags and a strip if you have a dog.

Working hard at Transition PEEP

Well done to all the boys and girls and their parents/grandparents who worked very hard at our Transition PEEP groups this year.  The Transition PEEP group aims to help prepare children for Primary One by focussing on a variety of literacy and numeracy activities, while building confidence and developing concentration and listening skills.

The groups ran on Friday mornings from March to June with sessions focussing on;

  • Getting to know each other
  • Following instructions
  • Working together
  • Playing with stories
  • Having fun with letter sounds
  • Rhyming sounds
  • Environmental print
  • Handling money
  • Recognising progress, praise and PARTY.

Children and parents/grandparents worked very well together through every day and ordinary learning experiences, where children’s efforts and achievements were recognised and valued by giving them praise and encouragement.  The noted increase in the children’s confidence was very noticeable over the months.

Thank you to everyone for the very positive evaluation comments and suggestions for ways to improve future sessions.

Germ Busting at BEYC

Hand washing focus fortnight is now officially finished, the boys and girls have been learning new songs, experiencing different experiments and have been receiving stickers for their efforts. Germ busters have been at the front of the nursery with their UV light machine to see if parents at BEYC hands are as clean as the childrens. Thank you for taking part and hope to continue in the routine of handwashing at home and within the nursery’.

Fundraising for Nepal

It’s been one month since the first devastating earthquake shook Nepal. Since then, over 8,600 people have died, more than 18,000 are injured and at least half a million people have lost their homes and living in makeshift camps.

Our Dress as a Superhero at BEYC on Thursday 21 May raised £140 for UNICEF with the donations going towards meeting the needs of 1.7 million children.

Thank you to everyone who both participated and donated towards this cause.
