We have all had a fantastic couple of days playing outside in the lovely warm sunshine. The sunflower seeds we planted at Grandparents Day are beginning to grow and we have spotted even more frogspawn in our pond! Please remember to put on sun cream before you come to nursery to protect your skin and it is a good idea to bring a sun hat too.

We spotted frogspawn in our pond yesterday and today we saw three frogs swimming around! It is hard to see the frogspawn unless the sun is shining on the pond so you need to look very carefully.
Over the next few weeks we will learn about the life cycle of a frog as we see it develop right before our eyes.

Here are some photographs of the children having fun hunting for golden eggs today at nursery. Mrs McKay spotted the Easter Bunny hop off along the garden path but we were not quick enough to catch him this year……
We were very lucky to have another visit from Topsy and Tim from Dechmont Farm this morning. Thank you to our friend Carolyn who kindly brought the 4 week old spring lambs in to visit us. The children loved the experience of feeding them their bottles of milk and being ‘chased’ by the noisy little lambs, while also learning about personal hygiene and the importance of hand washing after touching animals.
Well done to all the boys and girls and their parents/grandparents who are working very hard at our Transition PEEP groups with Miss Gardner this year. The Transition PEEP group aims to help prepare children for Primary One by focusing on a variety of literacy and numeracy activities, while building confidence and developing concentration and listening skills. This group will continue into the end of the summer term.
This week we said goodbye to our 6 little spring chicks John, Margo, Laura (named after our extremely helpful colleagues at West Lothian ICT Development Team who helped us to set up our web link via Glow), Patrick (hatching on St. Patricks Day) and Anna and Elsa (who can guess where their names came from?) They have grown very quickly and are now too big for the box and need lots of space to play and run around in, so have gone back to the farm in Dechmont, where they came from as eggs. This has been a fantastic learning experience for everyone at Bathgate Early Years Centre and also everyone who logged into Glow and joined us in our very own ‘Chick Cam’ meeting space. We plan to continue to extend our learning about the life cycle of a chicken after the Easter break and also the life cycle of other creatures…

Children and staff at Bathgate Early Years Centre took part in National Spring Clean 2016 on Tuesday this week in conjunction with West Lothian Council and Keep Scotland Beautiful. The Environmental Wardens team (West Lothian) provided child sized litter picks and bags and as came back to take away all of the rubbish we collected afterwards. As part of their ongoing Eco Schools work, the children have been learning about caring for and helping the environment by putting their litter in the bin and also the importance of recycling litter. Well done everyone, the garden looks fantastic.
Thank you to all the grandparents who took the time to come to nursery today to our Grandparents Day and bake sale. We had a very busy day indeed; making play dough to take home, planting sun flower seeds, making Easter nest cakes, Easter cards and doing hand prints together. Thank you also to our parent/carers who baked and donated and to our parent helpers who done a fantastic job at today’s bake sale. All proceeds will go towards the 2016 Bathgate Procession costumes.

Thank you to Animal Man who came to visit us at nursery today. We handled Domino and Gerry the mice, Polly the rat, Tango the corn snake, Thumper the rabbit, William the lizard, Sheldon the tortoise and a few more animals too including Jenny the hen, a tarantula and a guinea pig. Who can remember their names?
