Mrs McKay and the busy parent/carer helpers have been working on lovely crafts and tasty treats for the Christmas Fair. The Christmas Fair is taking place on Thurdsday 30th November from 2-4pm. If you would like to pop along and help with some of the crafts come and see Mrs McKay on Wednesdays at the parent/carer area in the foyer.
Children in Need at BEYC.
On Thursday you can come to nursery wearing something spotty for Children in Need. This week we are learning all about Pudsey Bear and what he does to help young people who are disadvantaged.
Have a look on the offical Children in Need website to find out more and what you an do to help support this charity. We will have a donations bucket in nursery of Thursday if you wish to make a donation via nursery.
Please also see the Children In Need Youtube Channel to watch case study videos.

Learning Together at PEEP with Mrs Ola.
Please have a look at the photos below to find out what we have been learning together at
PEEP with Mrs Ola. We focused on early reading and writing skills last week by creating a variety of home-make books. This week we sang songs and shared rhymes and stories  to develop understanding of letter sounds.
Bonfire Night and Fireworks Safety.
This week we have been creative with glitter, paint and colour tabs to create various firework pictures and effects…
“We shook glitter into the water and mixed all the colours together!” ….  “We threw the glitter up in the air and pretended it was fireworks.”  …..  “We watched in fall down and sprinkle onto the water.”  …..  ” It was great fun making firework sounds!”…..   “We put colour tabs into the water and watched them dissolve, the water turned blue, red, green and orange then black!”Â
We have also been learning about the important messages from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service  and how we can keep ourselves safe when at fireworks displays.
Please see the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Safety Advice to ensure you have a safe Bonfire night!
Did you know that sparklers get five times hotter than cooking oil? Sparklers are not toys and should never be given to a child under five?

Independent Snack Routine.
We made a little video using the GoPro yesterday afternoon to show everyone at home just how independent we are at following the nursery snack routine.  It is not easy and there is a lot to remember e.g. washing hands, finding snack card, counting amounts of food, deciding which bin to use for food and milk cartons and  not  to forget just how tricky it is to open the milk straw wrapper!  (The GoPro is not allowed to be worn in the bathrooms, however for the purpose of this video it is worn under adult supervision).

Fire Pit Safety.
The new boys and girls are learning how to safely use the fire pit at nursery this week and returning children are refreshing their knowledge of  the safety procedures.  Please have a look at the link below for a step by step video, recorded on the GoPro at the beginning of this year to share how we safely use the fire pit.
This term we are focusing on how to safely make and put out fire and how to cook toast a marshmallow/piece of bread or cheese on a stick.
Next term we will learn how to cook banana splits and damper bread safely on the fire pit.
If you have any tried and tested fire pit recipes (meat free please) please share them with the nursery staff or alternatively send an email to margaret.marshall1@westlothian.org.uk
Here is a short clip of how we safely toast the marshmallows once the fire is lit.
https://youtu.be/bLS8DBjvxzg
Once  we have all had a  turn to toast  a marshmallow we have got to put the fire out to make the area safe.
Come back soon to have a look at our fire pit safety book.  We are just about finished making it!
