We had a very special afternoon in nursery yesterday with Aeryn and her mummy learning all about the Japanese Festival Children’s Day. In Japan on the 5th Day of the 5th month people pray for the health and happiness of children. Children have a holiday from school and nursery to celebrate this day. Carp shaped streamers made from Koinobori (cloth) are hung outside to blow in the wind and children wear origami samurai hats. Aeryn’s mummy helped us make Carp steamers and told us all about Kashiwamochi, which is a Japenese snack of sticky rice with a sweet filling. We tried hard to pronounce new Japanese words, with lots of help from Aeryn and her mummy.
Thank you very much to Aeryn and her mummy for teaching us all about Children’s Day and bringing in beautiful Carp streamers for us to investigate. Children were keen to share their learning with their families at home time.
