Children are learning about how to keep themselves safe when participating in the very responsible task of making fires on the fire pit to cook simple snacks. In groups, children risk assess the dangers of fire and discuss ways to keep themselves safe, e.g. children are encouraged to be aware they must:
Stay sitting down behind the safety line until a nursery lady asks us to come closer,
Listen carefully to instructions at all times,
Make sure the fire is completely out before leaving the area,
Only ever make fires with an adult when they ask us to, because we need to organise all the things we need to keep us safe; water, fire blankets etc.
Please have a look in children’s Learners Journeys at observations showing children’s understanding of personal safety.
