Mission to Mars with p4/5

Primary 4/5 are preparing to be the first ever astronauts to land on Mars in the year 2030.

First we had to see how much we already know about the planet. We worked with our shoulder partner to sort out fact from fiction. There were 10 questions altogether each with three statements. Only one card contains a true statement. We already know quite a lot about Mars; our top scoring pair scored 8 out of 10…super!

Our next task was to discuss what 6 items we would take to Mars with us. We had lots to choose from so narrowing it down to 6 was quite tricky. We had to justify our reason for choosing our 6 items. We discussed each item as a class to decide if it really would be useful on Mars.

Money, money,money

Primary 1 has been learning about money. We learned all of the coins and have been making money totals to 20 pence using different coins. We have used our rekenrek counting frames to work out change from 10p with Mrs Kerr’s help. Money takes a lot of practise to learn so we will be revisiting it throughout Primary 1.

Ladybird = Clockleddy

We have been using collage to make the characters from our story “What the Ladybird Heard”.

We read the same story in Scots “Whit the Clockleddy Heard”. Comparing the stories we were able to work out what a “deuk in a dub” and a “hairy grumphie” were. Do you know?

The completed scarf

Hamish will look fabulous wearing his new scarf!

Primary 1 has worked so hard to weave a new scarf for Hamish McHaggis. It took a huge team effort to complete it. We think it looks cosy!!!

Yoga in primary 1

Primary 1 enjoyed a nice relaxing session of yoga after a hard days work! The children are learning how to look after their body and mind. They are developing good skills for yoga.

We are not sleeping…..we are doing our breathing patterns!!!

Primary 4/5

Primary 4/5 have been learning to up-level their writing and make it even better. We all wrote a newspaper article last week to report the Apollo 11 moon landing. The teacher read every one and provided feedback to everyone. Mrs Cree pointed out things that she liked and things than could be improved upon.

The first thing we had to do was read over our original report. We then looked at the feedback from the teacher. As we were re-drafting, we were encouraged to make changes to our writing. Some of us even made changes that weren’t suggested by Mrs Cree.
