The children have had so much fun today in the playground. They have built snowmen and made snow angels.
Floating and sinking with Primary 4/5
Primary 4/5 became scientists for the afternoon. We were experimenting with an orange and a grape to see if they would float or sink.
A lot of us thought the orange would sink because it was heavier than the grape. Imagine our surprise when our experiment showed it was the other way round.
Mrs Haigh (Emma’s mum) spoke to us about density and why the orange floats even though it’s heavier. Did you know that the orange peel contains little air pockets that make it less dense than water? This is why it floats.
We tested this theory by peeling the orange…it sank!
Learning Showcase
A showcase of learning for pupils from P 1 to P 7 will take place on Monday 27th of March at 7 pm. Pupils will talk to you about what they have been learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and will tell you about their topic this term. Please come to the hall for a 7 pm start. We look forward to sharing our learning with you.
Primary 1 STEM challenge
Prinary 1 were so lucky to have real engineer, Mrs Haigh, work with us on our STEM challenge.
Our Challenge was to use construction materials to build towers that stood on their own and we used measuring devices to make sure they were the correct height. We also had to follow plans to build structures. Mrs Haigh spoke to us about her job as an engineer and we asked her lots of questions.

Apollo Brainstorming Session
As part of our recent House Meeting, the children from Apollo brainstormed ideas about what makes the perfect school. All children engaged fully with the task and came up with excellent responses such as:
Kind teachers, respectful pupils, colourful displays, hardworking children, fun lessons, happy pupils and many more.
This was for our introduction to learning about becoming a Rights Respecting School. The children will be working very hard to help us become a Rights a Respecting School so look out for future updates.
