P3/2’s Rocket Experiment

P3/2 have been carrying out  experiments involving rockets. Last week we made our own rockets and this week we made some modifications to see if we could get them to fly further.

First, we practised our measuring skills in the classroom.

Next we went outside to launch our rockets. Our modifications included adding some weight to the end and also adding wings.

The rockets went so far we had to use a trundle wheel to measure the distance!

Once we’d completed our experiment we recorded our results.

Good job boys and girls! 👏

PE DAYS

Good afternoon.

We have had a fantastic start to our new school session with children settling in well.  It has been wonderful seeing them in their St. Joseph’s uniform and we are keen to encourage the children to continue to do so.

As mitigations continue to stipulate that children are unable to change clothes for PE, we would ask where possible, that your child/children come to school with their PE kits on under their uniform.

Also, please ensure all items of clothing and belongings are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

From Monday, August 23rd, PE will be on the following days.

P1- Miss Mc Cullagh: Tuesday and Thursday

P2/1 Mrs Warner: Tuesday and Thursday

P3/2 Miss Coleman:  Monday and Tuesday

Rocket launching with P2/3

Today we were learning about rockets and aerodynamics. We asked the question, ‘Why are rockets shaped like pencils and not bricks?’

We made simple rockets and decorated them with colourful patterns.

We then went out into the playground and got ready for the launch.
