A sad day in p3/4 today as it was the chicks last day with us. We have learned a lot with them in our classroom and it won’t be the same without them. To say goodbye we built them an obstacle course and gave them their favourite treat (toast). We also had fun reading them a story 🐣

A big thank you to all the parent speakers who came into school to speak with our classes this week. We learned lots about different careers in STEM and had a fabulous time learning about sustainability, linking with West Lothian College, bridge construction, examining water under a microscope and learning about heavy construction projects. We have all had a fabulous science week!

As part of our Science week, classes had the opportunity to see inside a Tesla electric car. We explored some of the features which make these cars different, like looking in the ‘fronk’, examining the ‘plug’ and exploring some of the features inside the car. This linked in with our learning on sustainable energy which we did earlier in the week.

The chicks managed to do some painting in school today, we think they need a bath tonight 🐣

This afternoon P5/6 were joined by Angus and Tobias, both engineers, who showed us some of the work they have done in building robots. We worked in groups to plan and design what our own robots would look like and then used spaghetti and marshmallows to turn our plans into models. We realised that plans need to be adapted and that certain shapes are really good at making models stay up!

The chicks are starting to get more confident and comfortable being out the brooding box 🐣

This week is Science week in St Joseph’s. To help us celebrate, Glasgow Science Centre came to visit! Our P1-P3/4 classes took part in Fit lab workshops on Monday. Today P4 – P7 we’re learning about energy sources and, in particular, sustainable energy. We had lots of fun watching the Future Fuels Science show and taking part in class workshops.

After a weekend away from school, the chicks were delighted to be back with p3/4. We noticed that some of the chicks have started to feather, especially around their wings!

This morning we got all 10 chicks out of incubator for the first time together. Some chicks even made some new friends! 🐣
