Hello Parents and Families,
Another exciting and busy week of learning has taken place in P1D. The children have been actively reading and forming their sounds taught so far. More and more children are taking in words written at home so that we can celebrate their learning further. This week we have been writing a story about our head teacher, Mrs Johns. We had a model to copy over and under and used lolly pop sticks to remind us to make a space between our words. This proved successful. Next time our focus will be finger spaces as well as writing on the line. I know we can do it!
In Maths lessons this week as a follow up to meeting our new Number Zoo character, Butterfly 3, led us to exploring symmetry (as we discovered that butterflies have the same designs and colours on both sides of their body). We enjoyed colouring our own butterflies and cutting them out. Mrs Devlin said they will make a lovely display.
We have continued to learn about our senses with the exploration of touch this week. We put our hand in a magical mysterious box and had to guess what we could feel. We talked about what we like to touch and what we do not and had a look at our finger tips using magnifying glasses. We learned that when God made each of us, he gave us all individual finger prints. Amazing!
On Wednesday the boys and girls looked very smart in their uniforms for their P1 photo that will soon be in the West Lothian Courier newspaper. We wore our prettiest smiles and said, “cheeeeese” as we watched for the little birdie to appear.
On Friday we experienced 2 new things in our classroom. The first was something called ‘Fun Friday’. Fun Friday happens every Friday where the boys and girls have fun playing with the different games Mrs Devlin brings out. It is a way to celebrate the good behaviour during the week. The second thing was called ‘Vertical Groups’. This gives the children the opportunity to experience further learning in other parts of the school, with other teachers and with other children from other stages. Ask your child what Vertical Group they are part of and see if they can remember.
Finally, we had another pupil join our class called Lauren. She is very welcome and is settling in very well. The boys and girls are being very helpful showing her around and playing together.
I look forward to our Parent’s Information Evening this coming Thursday (17th September) where I will get the opportunity to meet with you all and speak to you about the exciting and extensive learning experiences your child will partake in this year.
Photos of the learning experiences in P1D will be entered into the Blog once all parents have completed the permission form for photos to be taken that was in their ‘Welcome Pack’.
