Story time!

The children have been very busy this week exploring a range of mark making materials and writing their own storybooks.  Our Fairy tale story focus has been “Jack and the Beanstalk”.  Many of the children were involved in helping to make our display area, which included making different sized bean stalks, a story tuff tray and a castle.

  Story Tuff Tray

The children were developing their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination to glue and stick different materials onto the beanstalks and to paint our magic beans rainbow colours!

The children also helped to write some of words of the main characters and events…

 “Beanstalk”, “Jack”.  Amelia
 “Beanstalk” Rosie “Giant” Olivia

The children enjoyed painting magic beans, using chalk and white boards to practice writing their names and drawing pictures.

Some of the children wanted to retell the story by making their own Jack and the Beanstalk story book.

The children used the book to recall characters and the story line and did a great job retelling the story! Many of the children were able to copy some of the words from the story.

Some of the children chose other fairy tales. Zoe wrote her own version of “The Gingerbread Man” and Nieve wrote “The Three little pigs”.

Rosie wrote a lovely story “The princess and the Tiger”.

There was a ghost who liked to eat heart shaped candy and play outside in a thunder and lightning storm!

Olivia wrote a story about a butterfly that likes to eat cherries and cucumber.

Lewis wrote about a green car that crashed into a fence. Jay (the main character) then had to buy a new car but he liked this one better because it was rainbow colour!

Callum and Harrison wrote story books about Sonic the Hedgehog and their adventures with Eggman!

Sophie wrote a lovely story called “Damon the Cat”.

The boys and girls were very proud of their books and enjoyed telling them that they are now authors and illustrators because they wrote a story. Some of them shared their stories with their friends, reading what they wrote to them. Well done everyone! 🙂

World Book Day

We have had a very busy week with the children during our World book day celebrations. We had a great response from our Parent’s event on Tuesday, where we had some great interactive stories.

The parents and children joined in with a musical 3 Billy Goats Gruff, an Outdoor interactive Bear Hunt, a digital story using the Bee Bots to retell the 3 Little Pigs and lots more.

We also had a visit to the local library where the children got to look at all the wonderful books on offer and have some lovely stories read to them.

The children also got to take part in a book swap and were given a book token to help towards the cost of a book.

Word of the week-BUSY!

Another busy week at Polbeth! We have been doing lots of great pictures on the Promethean board, the children were helping to look after the local environment by doing a litter pick, showing great responsibility. We have been curious about lots of new books that have been put out into the story corner and we have also been exploring our new snack area.

The children have also been exploring lots of numbers on the Promethean board an discovering different ways to record these numbers, either by dots or by using the numeral. The children have also been set some challenges on our talking tins which they have had great pleasure in trying to complete the challenges.

The children also made some bird feeders for the birds and found an area in the garden for them, they also asked to have a picnic outside so we made our snack and had a lovely picnic in the garden area.

We also had a lovely visit along to the Rosebery centre and we had a great time playing jenga, skittles and snakes and ladders with everyone.

I wonder what will happen next week?

Fantastic Fun Learning

We have had such a busy week this week at Polbeth and the children have been taking their learning in lots of fun directions. We have been showing lots of curiosity about ice, they have been exploring different ways to make marks in the snow and they have been voting on a topic to learn about and they chose Sea creatures.

“I want to make a pink snowman” Kiera

“My hands are freezing” Macey

We have also been exploring lots of other sensory mark making opportunities, the children used curry powder, drinking chocolate, snow and ice and then melted chocolate.

“The crab goes snap, snap!” Jorja

“They have long stinging legs” Eva

The children have been making some lovely jellyfish for their sea creatures topic and they have also been using paints to create footprints in the snow.

We have been making yummy shortbread hearts for valentines day.

“It smells sweet like strawberries” Maisie

“Valentines is when daddy makes breakfast for the mummy” Amelia

We wonder what fantastic fun we will have next week, PHEW!!!
