In PE we enjoyed working on our hand eye coordination, in literacy we were exploring different types of books in our classroom library and used the letters and sounds we have learned to write and spell words. In maths we were trying to find 2 numbers that would add up to either 5 or 10 and we had great fun using the light boards to practice number formation.
We finished off the week with some spooky Halloween arts and crafts. We loved getting messy making our own sticky gloop!
Primary 6 voted to watch the Nightmare before Christmas as their Halloween treat. We used this as inspiration for our artwork this morning, learning to draw Jack Skellington.

Last thing I have attached is the information about the class talk on the children’s favourite mode of transport which the children should have brought home. It is due on the 30th of November.
This week in Maths we have been comparing numbers using the terms and symbols for greater than and less than. We worked in groups to come up with numbers to compare and then used our bodies to make the correct symbol. Photos uploaded okay on the blog so just scroll down to see them!

Well that’s our 1st term in P1 complete, we cannot believe how quick the time has gone! We have had lots of fun learning new things and meeting new friends.
Thank you to everyone who handed in their homework jotters, we have thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the fantastic work you have been doing at home!
During Maths Week Scotland we were all very busy with a variety of different maths and numeracy activities. The children all had fun expanding on their mathematical knowledge and they enjoyed the challenge and the fun of learning both indoors and outdoors.
Primary One went hunting outdoors for natural materials to make a Gruffalo Pie and Owl Ice-cream. They used their fabulous counting skills to collect all of the ingredients and mixed them together to make their creations. What fantastic links to both Literacy and Numeracy in one activity 🙂

In primary six, they focused on an assortment of numeracy activities every morning in their Smart Start time and Miss Lynch really gave their brains a workout with questions of the day focused on Maths and Numeracy.
All of the P6 children also took part in the Maths Week Scotland Sumdog competition and were very pleased with their knowledge, efforts and positive attitude.
In primary seven, they have been researching and comparing Scotland with Japan in their interdisciplinary topic this term, so they were excited when they had the opportunity to take part in a Maths Week Scotland origami session focusing on 3D shapes and their properties. Lots of other schools joined in with this live session and all of the children had a great time trying to create their own Jackson Cubes using the Japanese art of paper folding. Some of the children also tried a hexahedron.

Each year the main aim of Maths Week Scotland is to celebrate the importance of maths in our everyday lives.
Over the week, lots of maths related themes and activities were shared across all levels from nursery to primary seven and we hope that by engaging the children in these activities, we can inspire a more positive attitude towards maths!
Future mathematicians in the making………. we will wait and see 🙂
