P2/1 Outdoor Classroom Day

We got wrapped up warm and celebrated outdoor classroom day this week.

On Wednesday, we had great fun collecting twigs and branches we found in the playground and used them to spell out the letters in our names.

On Thursday, went on a leaf hunt to try and find as many different types and colours of leaves as possible. We were amazed at all the beautiful colours and noticed these were the same warm colours we had used in our health and wellbeing art lesson. We even found some giant mushrooms growing on the grass but we were very sensible and careful and didn’t touch them as we didn’t know if they safe. Once our bag was full of leaves we took them back to the classroom to make leaf stick puppets. It was such good fun!

Term 1 in P2-1

What a fantastic first term we have had in P2/1!

We have been learning lots of new sounds, learning how to form our letters and blend sounds we know together to read words. In our writing lessons, we have been learning how to write a recount and how to write a persuasive text, arguing one side of an argument. We have been trying really hard to use our sight words and our new sounds in all of our writing. Sid the monkey was helping us with our writing, he thought we were fantastic!

In numeracy we have been working on counting forwards and backwards from a given number and identifying numbers. We have also been reciting our days of the week, months of the year and learning about the four seasons. We learned how to identify o’clock on an analogue and digital clock, some of us were learning half past the hour. We had great fun using stop watches to time ourselves and our friends doing various challenges and activities.

Our topic this term was ‘Fauldhouse’, we enjoyed learning about various buildings and features in our village. We learned about the different types pf houses an used google maps to find our own houses and used the building blocks to make an design a house. We used our data analysis skills to record traffic in our village using tally marks and then transferred the information on to a bar chart for our topic wall display.

We have been focussing on friendships and kindness this term in our Health and Wellbeing. We discussed what makes a good friend and what we can do to show our friends kindness. We have also been learning how to recognise, name and show our emotions, describe what triggers different emotions and how we react to various situations. We learned our bodies are like cogs and they all need to work together for us to be healthy and safe. We created our own ‘coggles’ to use when we are reading books so we can spot emotion words.

Mrs Howley is extremely proud of all our hard work this term and said we deserve a lovely October break.

Term 4 in P1H

And just like that, it’s June…and we have finished Primary one!

Look what we have been getting up to this term!

In numeracy we focussed on addition and subtraction, doubles and near doubles, symmetry and measure!

In literacy we finished learning all our sounds and applied our knowledge in our writing lessons. We really enjoyed using arts and crafts to help us remember our two letter sounds, ‘sh’ for pirate ships!

In science we focussed on our 5 senses. Look at our faces when we used our sense of smell to guess what was inside the smelly socks!

We thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills in our basketball lessons and had great fun during our school sports day!

We practiced our road safety during our ‘Keeping Ouselves Safe’ health and wellbeing lessons. It was great fun being a lollipop man/lady!

In our last week of term we took advantage of the sunshine and had our own ‘Primary 1 Picnic and Play in the Park’. We played games, picked flowers and made buttercup crowns!

We made the most of our new outdoor learning resources and used our problem solving skills to make dens! We think Mrs Howley and Miss Gorman had more fun than us!

Green fingers! Planting flowers and vegetables in our new raised beds.

Keeping our outside spaces clean and tidy during the Falla Hill litter pick!

Our topic this term was ‘Kings, Queens and Castles’. We worked with our friends to create amazing castles in the block play area!

And finally, who could forget Scotland making it to the ‘UEFA Euro 2020’. We had our flags ready to cheer them on!

I am so proud of all you have achieved this year Primary 1. We have made lots of great memories together and I have enjoyed watching each and every one of you grow and learn over the past few months. Enjoy your well-deserved summer holidays.

I would like to say a huge ‘Thank you’ for all the lovely cards and gifts I received.

P1 learning

It’s been a busy week in P1 !

In PE we enjoyed working on our hand eye coordination, in literacy we were exploring different types of books in our classroom library and used the letters and sounds we have learned to write and spell words. In maths we were trying to find 2 numbers that would add up to either 5 or 10 and we had great fun using the light boards to practice number formation.

We finished off the week with some spooky Halloween arts and crafts. We loved getting messy making our own sticky gloop!

Happy Halloween, have a lovely weekend!
