P1 Monday 8th June – Literacy

Good morning everyone. Hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready to begin a new week of learning!

First let’s get some exercise with Joe

Remember to have a rest and a drink afterwards.

Today we are learning the j sound.

  • Watch and sing along to the Jolly Phonics song and do the action – pretend to wobble a jelly on a plate

  • Now watch and listen as the Alphablocks help us learn more about the j sound

  • Now find the j pages in your Jolly Phonics workbook and draw and colour 4 pictures using the j sound
  • Trace then write the j sound underneath
  • Now think of 6 good j words and write them out 3 times in your neatest handwriting on the other side of the page
  • To finish Literacy tasks this morning an activity has been set for you on Education City

Today for Health and Well Being we are going to take a look at being RESPONSIBLE – what do you think that  means?

  • Talk to a family member about being responsible
  • We are all responsible for something

Have a listen to this fun song about responsibilty

  • Now make a list of at least 3 things you will be responsible for tomorrow
  • It might include :
  • brushing you teeth
  • tidying your room
  • feeding a pet

When you have done these things, tick them off on your list and I bet you will feel a great sense of ACHIEVEMENT – something we were learning about a couple of weeks ago

To finish off listen to the story,  “I’ll do it!” by Brian Moses and Mike Gordon

Good morning everyone! Hope you are all well.

Let’s start with some exercise with Joe.

Today we will continue to learn about books and catch up with Unicorn and Haggis as Marcus finds out that books can answer questions.

  • Watch and listen to the clip below.

  • Now read the book, (below the clip), for yourself or with  a family member.
  • What type of book is this?
  • Is it fiction or non-fiction?
  • How do you know?
  • Look for the punctuation marks in the book – can you find CAPITAL LETTERS, FULL STOPS, COMMAS, EXCLAMATION MARKS, QUESTION MARKS etc
  • Think of all the question words you know:
  • WHEN?   WHERE?   WHO?   WHAT?   WHY?    WHICH?
  • Ask a family member a question beginning with each word e.g.WHEN is your birthday?   WHERE is your favourite place? etc.

The book ended with another question – “Why do some animals wake up at night and play under the starry skies?”

  • Can you think of some animals that like to come out at night?
  • Share your ideas with a family member
  • These animals are known as Nocturnal
  • Let’s find out what this means

  • What is your favourite nocturnal animal?
  • Why do you like it?
  • Tell a family member about it
  • Create your own Night and Day animals collage like the one below
  • Can you think of any more Night or Day animals to add?

  • Today we will continue with Data Handling
  • Data handling means different ways of collecting, organising and displaying information.
  • Can you remember any of the ways we sorted information last week?
  • We sorted by shape, colour and size
  • What ways did you think of to sort the animals in your Education City task?

We can sort information by looking at a picture

  • Watch and listen to the clip below

  • We can organise this information into a table like the one shown below.

  • We can use this information to ask and answer questions:
  • What is the most popular animal at the pond?
  • What is the least popular animal at the pond?
  • How many ducks and frogs are there altogether?
  • How many animals are there altogether? etc.

 

  • Now take a look at the picture below

  • How many of each shape can you count?
  • Use the information to draw and complete a table of your own in your jotter
  • Now get a family member to ask you some questions about your table
  • To finish off try to think of a way to sort/organise  some of your toys
  • Sort them and take a photograph or draw a picture to share with us by email or by posting it on the blog
  • You could even make a table to show how you have organised them

Next week we will learn how to use information to construct a pictogram

  • Warm up with this count by tens song

  • Now practise saying the tens numbers aloud
  • Can you practise saying them from 100 down to 10?

Good morning everyone and welcome to another day of learning.

Let’s start off with some exercise with Joe.

Today we will continue with the th sound.

Watch and listen to this th song

  • Watch and listen to this clip to learn some more th words

  • Try to identify as many words using the th sound as you can – can you think of 10?
  • Share them with a family member
  • Complete the 3 th activities on Study Ladder – 2nd June – Phonics th and remember to do the tutorial first
  • Now choose 3 th words write a sentence for each one on your jotter e.g.  Three birds live in that nest.
  • Try to make your sentence more interesting by including an adjective or a connective – and, but, so, because, then  e.g. Three tiny birds live in that nest.
  • Remember to use a capital letter at the start and a full stop at the end of each sentence
  • Don’t forget to write neatly

Hello again everyone!

Join in with the regular Monday Fischy Music assembly.

To warm up let’s try a different song to practise counting down from 100 to 1.

  • Today’s activities have been set on Study Ladder
  • 1st June  – Subtraction from 10
  • Remember to do the Tutorial first, then 2  Practice activities
  • Now make your own spinner like the one shown in the activity sheet – you can make it from a circle of card and make it as colourful as you like, push a pencil through the middle and spin!
  • If you would rather you could make card/paper squares and write the numbers on them, put them in a bag or a box and try a “lucky dip” instead
  • Next use your spinner/lucky dip to  copy and complete the subtraction calculations in your jotter

Good morning everyone and Happy June! Can you believe that it’s the first of June already? Hope you all managed to enjoy some sunshine over the weekend.

Kick start the week and June with Joe.

Remember to have a drink and a wee rest before beginning Literacy.

Today we are going to revise the th sound.

  • Sing along with the Jolly Phonics song and do the action.
  • Pretend to be a rude clown and stick out your tongue and say th, th
  • The th sound can be heard in 2 ways

  • th is the cheeky sound – try not to get it confused with f – you should feel your teeth on your tongue when you say th
  • Watch and listen to this clip to help with the 2 different th sounds

  • Now find the th pages in your Jolly Phonics workbook and draw and colour 4 pictures using the th sound – remember the th sound can come at the start or the end of a word e.g. thin      bath
  • Trace then write the th sound underneath
  • Now think of 6 good th words and write them out 3 times in your neatest handwriting on the other side of the page
