This week in P3b…

We have been learning our 2, 4 and 8 times table. We noticed that if you doubled the answers from the 2 times table you get the answers to the 4 times table and if you double the 4 times table answers you get the 8!

We have been practising our Scots poems!

As it is our assembly we have had to be able to use our presenting skills to present poems and a quiz. There are lots of other things in our assembly and if you would like to come it is on:

Friday 18 January 2013 at 9.40

We have been learning to write a biography. We know now it is not a story but we have to write information about a person. We had to remember to write in sentences using capital letters and full stops.

In art we drew a picture of Sir James Young Simpson and we needed to use our eyes to observe carefully then to try to draw him.

We look forward to seeing you at our assembly tomorrow!

Busy First Week

P1b have had a busy first week back after the Christmas holidays! After reflecting on our week, we wanted to share some of our highlights.

Ben enjoyed handwriting because we were learning how to neatly write capital letters on the line.

Ava liked completing an experiment about objects that float and sink.  We discovered that wood and plastic float and metal sinks!

We also had a closer look at the colour wheel and learned about hot and cold colours.  We then coloured landscape images using either hot or cold coloured pastels.

Alice!

We are all really excited as we have started rehearsals for our show.  We are all really enjoying it and are beginning to learn our songs, dances, actions and words! It’s lots of hard work but good fun.

Maths is getting even trickier….we are finding fractions , when the numerator is greater than 1, of a set.  We are all trying our best and are getting more confident each day!

Finally we would like to welcome Mr Jefferies to Balbardie, we really enjoy the bubble game 🙂

Big Balbardie Blether

P3lm enjoyed another Big Balbardie Blether today! We liked chatting to different children from throughout the school and going to another classroom for a while.
We discussed reading, for example, our favourite books and what kind of reading activities we do in class. The teacher read his/her favourite story and we had a good chat about that which was fun.
I think after today a few of us have caught the reading bug!

Happy New Year from 7M!

Reflections by Eve

Monday was the first day back, I felt so sleepy!. We got our new care classes, I got p3LM. I really like being their carer! We started our WW2 topic and we learned about how Adolf Hitler rose to power. I am excited about reading our new book-‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. We have a choice of two poems to learn for the poetry competition. ‘Wee Joukydaidles’ or ‘Scots, Wha, hae’ by Robert Burns. I’m learning the poem ‘Wee Joukydaidles’. We were given a lesson in Mandarin by Mr Chen and he taught us all about China. I had fun writing my Biography of Robert Burns. We ended the week with a Big Balbardie Blether!

Reflections by Simone

It was the first day back and we were assigned our new care classes. We started to read ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. I think it will be a sad book! I shared my news about what I did at Christmas time at circle time. In art this week we made Robert Burns’ cottage. It was hard to fir the pieces in. We wrote our Burns biographies and Miss Shephard taught us about rationing during WW2. At the end of the week we worked in drama groups with Mrs Innis. I worked well on the group task.

P5ms – First Week Back

This week we started our new topic – Victorians. We made a timeline from the creation of the world until present time. This helped us understand exactly when the Victorian era took place.

We had a new teacher this week. His name is Mr Jeffries. He will teach us Health and Wellbeing and PE. We think Mr Jeffries is going to be a fun teacher with lots of creative ideas.

This week we introduced The Reading Rave. The Reading Rave will be held every Thursday from 9:15-9:45. We can do all types of reading activities during this time: eBooks, comics, play scripts, non-fiction, craft instructions etc… Some of us might practise for our Burns Competition during this time.

On Friday we had our Big Balbardie Blether. Our Blether teacher read his/her favourite book to us. We discussed lots of ideas about how to improve reading at Balbardie. We are all very excited to try them out.

From the Blog Post Box:

This week something I did well was…..

….participating fully in all activities.           Lauren C

…subtracting Hundreds, Tens and Units with exchanging.             Lauren U

…producing an interesting piece of writing about things I am good at.     Amy

…mentally subtracting multiples and near multiples of 10.             Emily

p2lg are learning about The Senses

This week we have been learning about our senses. The 5 senses are sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste.

We have learned about the eye and how it works. We also thought about what it is like to lose your sight. We did a blindfold obstacle course where our partner led us around the course. This helped us to understand how visually impaired people might feel.

“The black dot in your eye is called your pupil.” Ross

“The coloured part of your eye is called the Iris.” Liam

“Your eyelid keeps dirt out of your eyes.” Caitlin

“I liked the blindfold course but it is a shame for people who are blind all the time.” Archie

Here are a couple of pictures of our blindfold assault course.
