Money Week

Money Week

We have been learning about money in class 1.  We have lots of fun in our class shop and can use good manners when we pretending to be the customer and the shop keeper.  We have been learning how to add our money to make sure that we enough to pay for what we want.  We enjoyed practising our skills at the bake sale recently.

Science

We have been learning about the 5 senses.  This week we have been sampling different fruits and sharing our likes and dislikes.  We created our own bar charts to show the fruits we like and don’t like.  We enjoyed comparing our bar charts.

In the Sensory Room we took turns with a partner to put on a blindfold and try various fruits.  We had to guess which fruit it was and say whether or not we liked the taste.   This was tricky as we couldn’t see the fruit!  We had to use our sense of touch, taste and smell to work out which fruit it was.

Reading

We enjoy spending time in our class library.  We especially enjoy reading in the library with a partner, taking turns to read a story to each other!  Our favourite books this week have been, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, ‘Owl Babies’, The Giraffe Who Can’t Dance’, and ‘The Fish who could Wish.’ Our librarian this week is Lewis.  Lewis has been making sure that our library is kept neat and tidy.  Lewis politely asks others to put their books away if they have forgotten.  Thanks Lewis, our library looks great!

Wonderful News!

Everyone was so excited to hear Jayden’s news.  Jayden has a new baby brother!  We enjoyed creating beautiful cards for the new baby.   Miss Barrie and Miss Cameron were so pleased as the children in class 1 could remember lots from the ‘New Baby’ topic last year.  Joe wrote ‘twinkle twinkle little star’ on his card and glued lots of gold stars as babys like to hear nursery rhymes!  We know that Jayden will be a fantastic big brother!

Class 3 is Getting Bigger

This week is West Lothian Money week.  We have been learning about money.

Liam – I was counting 1 and 2 pence coins.

Josh – I have a money task for my home learning this week.

Geordie – Money is very important because we need it to buy things.  We aren’t old enough to have lots of money but some of us get pocket money.

Cary – I learned lots with Mrs Stewart because we had real coins instead of pretend coins.

We also had some good news this week.  Callum will become a class 3 pupil in November.  He came to visit and he joined in with our money week tasks.

Geordie – Callum and I played a game together on the smartboard.  We had to spend our coins to buy food.  It was good to work with Callum.

We are all very excited about Callum joining class 3.

Geordie – I think it’s cool.

Nathan – I think it’s a great change.

Cary – I quite like that Callum is coming.  He is one of my friends.

Mrs Stewart is very proud of all of the boys for welcoming Callum to class 3.

Judo in P3

This week we were lucky even to have a Judo taster session.  We all got to wear a special judo jacket, before we tried lots of different judo moves with our partner.  We all had lots of fun!  Thank you to everyone for organising this.

I liked doing the judo throw – Archie & Callum

It is a fun way to keep fit – Noah

I liked playing the different games because it was fun – Lewis

I thought the ‘bear hug’ was the best bit – Cameron R

It was tricky trying to block people – Amber

I liked the game when you had to get your partner out of the mat! – Harry

Kameron would like to know when we will get to do it again as it was fun…..

P2e

We have had a very busy week in primary two. We really enjoyed our visit to the library this week. We enjoyed looking at different books and sharing the stories with our friends. We were very well behaved and the librarian is looking forward to us visiting again soon! We also enjoyed having a go at judo this week and lots of us now want to join a judo club.

In reading we have been learning about rhyme, but it didn’t take us alot of time. We had fun spotting words that were the same and turned our learning into a game!

In our topic this week we have been learning about animals and their homes. We can name lots of diferent types of houses animals live in. We also worked with a partner to create animals homes in shoe boxes. Kaitlin and Gemma decided we should call them shoe box zoos! We used materials to make the animal homes very realistic. Some children children made jungles and others made oceans and the grasslands of Africa.

Here are some examples. Don’t they look great?!

PROFILE WEEK IN p7b

Rabeea: We did the subtraction accuracy challenge and it has helped us with our accuracy by doublechecking our work. It was fun!

Callum: I enjoyed playing in the school football match. We did pretty good at the start but Boghall made a very good comeback.

Zenaib: I enjoyed the visit from Jessica’s dad because he told us all about the USA. He told us about a high school in America which got closed for a year because there were loads of fights when 9 black pupils joined the all-white school.

Hannah: I enjoyed the Street Dance because it was fun even though I wasn’t very good at it!

Christopher A: I enjoyed drama this week it was quite surprising to hear who got which part in Cinderella Rockerfella. It was fun to practice our singing skills too.

Who has impressed?

Sam: The school football team impressed me by putting up a good match against Boghall, even though they lost they did well.

Rabeea: Mr Berginis impressed me by doing well in the Street Dance even though he fell over!

Money Fun! P4g

This week we for story writing we had free choice and got to make up our own story. It was fun having the freedom to choose our own titles. We had the choice of personal, imaginative and functional writing.

On Thursday we did problem solving related to money week. In our trios we had to find at least 10 ways of making up money totals e.g. 10 ways to make up 67p using 1p, 2p, 5p, 10, 20p and 50p coins. It was easy at first but hard to find the 8th, 9th and 10th way as we were running out of options!

We went to judo and had lots of fun. The instructor was really funny! Ramsay brought in his Judo medals to share as he goes to the same judo club. Well done Ramsay!

On Wednesday at art time we made clay fish. We learned to sculpt and imprint patterns. Next week we are looking forward to painting them once they have set.

At gym this week we learnt more about handball in preparation for the handball festival next Wednesday. It was really, really fun!

Lastly, we were testing lots of different solids’s solubility in science this week. Solubility means it dissolves and disappears in water. We learned that stirring and using hot water speeds up this process. We learned a new word; hypothesis, it means tohave a guess/predict. We discovered that sugar, salt, flour and certain medicine tablets are soluble. This linked in with Alexander Flemming inventing penicillin, very interesting!

This week’s special person is……. Cameron Muir because:

  • He is my bestest friend in the world (Scott)
  • He is really helpful
  • He gives really really really really tight hugs
  • He is really funny
  • He works hard

  • He is very laid back
  • He is a clever boy
  • He is crazy (Cameron agrees!)

  • He is very thoughtful
  • He is a cheeky monkey (Cameron also agrees!)

It’s Friday again!

We have put a lot of effort into learning our times tables this week. We have lots of different activities we can choose from. Sam Davies made up a times table song at home and now we sing it every morning!

Jamie Nisbet- I like the times table song that Sam made up.

Lewis Millen – It’s fun learning the times table using the four in a row game. We have to know our times table quite well to win and it makes me practice my times tables at home.

Carter Wilson – I like the loop cards best. This week we have beaten our best time by three seconds.

Our writing this week has been focussed on recalling the facts of the Creation Story and the Big Bang theory. We linked our learning by using our diaramas to help us recall the facts of the Creation Story for our writing.

We have also learned the difference between a food chain and a food web this week. Sam said he really enjoyed making a shark food web.

Judo ! What a great time we all had.   Emma Thomson – We learned some basic judo moves. It was great fun!

P1 Autumn Walk

Yesterday Primary 1 headed over to Balbardie Park for an Autumn Walk.  The children had a great time and everyone was very proud of how well they behaved.  The children were armed with plastic bags and collected lots of lovely leaves to make things with back at school. After some leaf collecting we all sat down for a well deserved biscuit before collecting some more things before heading back to school. Thank you to all the mums and grannies who came to help us, we really appreciated it.
