New Student in Class 2

In Class 2 we have a new pupil. He is called Jamie. He likes Minecraft PVZ.

This week we had Get Together in Class 2. Jamie knows our welcome song.  He sang it at his previous school. He did not know the actions but thinks it will not be long till he learn it.

Mr Jeffries’  P.E. lesson was outdoors this week. We had a new activity called kick cricket. We were getting quite good at it.

Writing this week we had to choose a favourite place in Scotland. The place had to be in Scotland because we are learning more about Scotland. We wrote about:

Jamie: KFC

Cody : the swing park

Caitlin : the swimming pool

Liam: M&D’s

Dylan:Glasgow Subway

Mrs Clark: Stirling Castle

For our Homelearning this week we each got a link to help us learn our multiplication tables

http://www.totally3rdgrade.com/multiply_by_two_easy_thing_to_do.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzVyBQ5uTbo

Jamie: I have enjoyed my first week at Balbardie.

Aiden and Cody : We worked together to make a large scone which we will share.

Caitlin : I don’t believe it. I got the Assembly Certificate. I got the certificate for trying hard to write a story about my favourite place in Scotland. I sounded out the words I did not know.

Liam: Plop is an owl. He likes the fireworks.

Dylan: Did you know that the subway trains in Glasgow make the same noise each time they close the doors?

P2g have been finding out about sight

We have been learning about the sense of sight. We have learned about the different parts of the eye and how they work. We thought about what it must be like to live without being able to see. We did a blindfold assault course in the dinner hall where a partner had to lead us around and through different obstacles. This helped us to understand how blind people might feel using their guide dogs. On the way back from the library today we were lucky enough to meet a lady who had a guide dog. She was very kind and stopped to talk to us about how her guide dog helps her. Here are some pictures from us doing the assault course and some of our thoughts about what we experienced:

“Doing the blindfold assault course was scary because I couldn’t see.” Ava C

“I didn’t feel safe when I couldn’t see.” Demi-Leigh

“It was hard to do the obstacles when you couldn’t see.” Jessica

“I liked seeing the guide dog and asking the lady questions about it.” Isla

Part of our homework for this week is to find out what Braille is and we will be doing some activities to do with this and the sense of touch.

Thank you for your votes! As you can see it was a tricky decision, however the winning entry was the ‘Crispy Crunch Bite’, as decided by the Board of Directors.

Come and see all the wrappers we designed!

Today we made the chocolate bars and were allowed to modify the ingredients slightly. We worked cooperatively as teams and made the decisions together. The chocolate bars look delicious!

We have also been learning about different types of questions and how to use them effectively. We can now identify three types of questions. They are simple questions, true/false questions and multiple choice questions.

Enjoy your week.

Two Weeks of Fun in P4g!

week 1;

Spooky School!

We had lots of Hallowe’en fun! We worked cooperatively in trios to design and carve Hallowe’en pumpkins. Some had one eye, some had three eyes and lots had scary cracks and scars! The inside of the pumpkin was squidgy and slimy! We also enjoyed Hallowe’en arts, crafts and puzzles.

Last week was what we had all been waiting for…animation week! We worked very excitedly to make our animations. Some of us brought in figures and backgrounds from home and some of us made our characters out of plasticiene. We learned to move our characters slightly and take a photo each time to blend it all together into a movie. It is called stop motion. We also explored with the ‘Lego Movie’ app to add special effects and music. We loved your idea Mrs Spence of having a screening to watch each other’s animation, especially with popcorn! We have dropping hints to Miss Goff haha!

A few people went to Fireworks displays for Guy Fawkes Night.

We enjoyed a fabulous assembly by P5m who told us the story of Guy Fawkes and how to be careful around fireworks.

We have been practicing for our assembly on the 22nd November – don’t miss it!

Have a fab weekend!

P2e

We have had a very busy week but we have had lots of fun! This week we have been learning more about our five senses. We have been learning about sight and what happens if you don’t have your sense of sight. We experimented with magnifying glasses, optical illusions and were blindfolded. We also made sensory pictures that blind people can feel. Next week we are going to write our names in braille. We are really enjoying playing in our new hospital too.

Also, this week we have been learning to add within 20. We are all really good at using a numberline to help us work out these tricky sums!

On Wednesday we had a very busy day. Before break time we were learning to punch and kick in karate and after break time we were learning how play the drums. We are looking forward to our future drum workshops.

P4b

This week we have been busy with our invention of chocolate topic.

We looked at maths problems and tried to work out different combinations that we could get using three ingredients.  We also worked out how much it would cost to buy the different combinations of ingredients!

We investigated how to make a Cherry Choo  Chocolate Bar, discussed the process of making the bar and then had to teach the ‘Idiot Alien’ how to make the chocolate bar. The problem was that the Alien would only do exactly what you told him to. It was very tricky to make sure no steps were missed out and the Alien understood how to make the chocolate bar.

We now have an overall winner of the chocolate bar wrapper design. Why you don’t you vote and tell us which wrapper you like?

Coco Crisp Bar
Choco Bite
Crispy Crunch
Chocolate Crunch Bite
Orange Crispy Bite

We also had great fun when Callum came to give us a taster session on Karate. He showed us how to count in Japanese as well as some basic moves.

Enjoy your weekend!

Our Week in P1b

On Tuesday morning, we had a shared start.  Our family members were welcome into class to complete some firework activities with us.  Here are some of our thoughts:

Amy- ‘My favourite activity was when I was drawing fireworks with chalk.’

Mia- ‘I liked playing with the playdough.’

Isaac- I liked sticking things on paper to make a bonfire.’

Ailah- ‘I was shaking the maracas to make firework noises.’

On Wednesday we had a karate taster session.   We were punching in the air and counting to ten in Japanese.  We also worked with a partner to balance and kick the air.  It was great fun!

.

P7m’s Week

Primary 7m have had a really fun and busy week.

We had a drumming workshop on Wednesday. The Djembe drums were very noisy but we loved drumming different rhythms. We learned that the Djembe drums were from West Africa. The class can’t wait for the next couple of sessions.

We also enjoyed a session of karate this week. The girls especially loved having the opportunity to kick Miss Macintyre! 🙂

P5d

Hi everyone!

This has  been a great week in p5d.

Pupil of the week – Shaun H

MVP – Josh C

We are beginning our new topic Scottish Wars of Independence.

Here are a few  facts we have learned already –

1314 was the Battle of Bannockburn – Sam

Margaret Maid of Norway was the grandaughter of King Alexander III -Sasha

The Battle of Falkirk was in 1298 – Jordan

We had a super time when Daniel Duggan from Infectious Grooves visited our class. We learned all about the new drums that we have in school and had a great workshop.

We did body rhythm exercises to warm up.

Here we are learning to play a polyrhythm – that’s when you play one rhythm over another.

Maths-

Loop Card update – We have a new record !!!! 1 minute 6 seconds and we are ecstatic ! Mr Welsh you need to pay us a visit and see how good we are.

Language –

We have had great fun drawing pictures of Gangsta Granny and writing about the kind of character we think she has. We are a little sad that we are almost at the end of the book.

Surprise of the week – The class teacher of P5 Falla Hill commented on last weeks blog post!!

Cushion Clubs

This week has been exciting in the Cushion Club because we now have two Cushion Clubs!  We have a P2/3 group and a new P1 group.  The new P1’s have been settling into our routines and enjoying working on their personal targets.  We have enjoyed having our lunch together!  We hope to get Parents in to see how well we are doing shortly.  Next week we will post some photos of what the new P1 Cushion Club has been up to.

HOW OUR WEEK ‘SHAPED’ UP IN P7B!

OUR WEEK:

Callum: “During maths we learned about 2D and 3D shapes. We learned that a cube has eight vertices, six faces and twelve edges.”

Luke: “3D shapes do not have sides, only 2D shapes have sides. For example, a square has four sides and a nonagon has nine sides.”

Rabeea: “We also learned how to solve word problems. It helps us if a problem is written as a sentence because it helps us decide what type of sum it is. The three steps are: 1. Decide what type of sum using the key words. 2. Write the sum out accurately using the correct numbers. 3. Complete the sum and double check.”

Jane: “In writing we were writing Remembrance poems. To do that you had to choose your rhyming words and make up four lines in your verses. I felt it was sad to write about but it was fun at the same time because you had to use your imagination and put yourself in the shoes of the soldiers.”

Sophie M: “I enjoyed making my poem. I enjoyed making my lines so that they matched the rhyming beat. My poem was to make sure we remember all soldiers in the past and present who have died.”

Christopher S: “I enjoyed writing my poem and trying to make it rhyme. It was difficult at first but it got easier because I kept working hard. Part of my poem was:

Wear a poppy, save the day,

On the 11th, Remembrance Day. “

Callum: “I enjoyed learning about Dunkirk and how the soldiers tried and failed to take back their land and were saved from the beaches by yachts and other boats.”

Sam: “In art we were learning about another part of WW2 which was propaganda which is when the Allies and Axis tried to persuade people. Some examples were that Hitler was an evil monster, Dig For Victory and Your Country Needs You! Next week we’re going to create our own propaganda posters and we can choose whether to represent the Axis or Allies.”

Declan: “In drama we had to perform act one of Cinderella Rockafella in front of the primary 6s. It went excellent because everyone had their heads up and weren’t staring at their words.”

Taylor: “I liked circle time this week because I enjoyed hearing what everyone was up to during the holidays.”

WHO HAS IMPRESSED?

Emma: “My table impressed me by winning table of the week.”

Christopher A: “Primary 5m impressed me this week with their brilliant performance in assembly about Guy Fawkes. I really liked how they all dressed up and found it very interesting.”

Eve: “I’m impressed with Rebecca for getting her highest score on Big Maths Beat That.”

Isla: “Luke impressed me by getting Mr Jeffries’ MVP for P.E.”

Taylor: “P2e impressed me because at wet lunch they behaved really well.”

Rabeea: “Christopher S impressed me by winning Mrs Innes’ pupil of the month.”

Rebecca: “Louise impressed me with her Remembrance poem because it had really good rhymes in it and it made sense.”

Sam: “I’m impressed by the Troopers table because they won table of the week for the first time in p7! They didn’t give up, kept trying and eventually they have won!”

Freya: “I’m impressed with Emma for winning pupil of the week for writing a really good poem about Remembrance.”

Sophie L: “Isla has impressed me because she has learned all of her words for Cinderella Rockafella off by heart.”

Sophie M: “Declan impressed me by getting onto step 3.”

Louise: “Abbie has impressed me in Cinderella Rockafella because she is putting lots of effort into her acting for the role of Teaser.”

Mr Berginis: “Well done to everyone who beat their best ever score on Big Maths Beat That this week.”

This week in P2g

On Tuesday we went to Karate and enjoyed learning some of the basic moves from this sport. PC Arnott also came to visit us. He talked to us about how what we have been learning in Health (Being Cool in School programme) can also be used when we grow up. He told us how he uses the same principles as part of his job as a police officer. We liked hearing about ‘Happy hands,’ which tell people that you do not want them in your personal space without being aggressive or unkind.

We now have some people on step 3. Well done to Ellie, Breanna, Ava Wood, Evan, Daniel and Lucy. We hope that we will have some people ready to go into the Golden Club before Christmas and we are working hard on our listening and talking skills with both Mrs Gallagher and Mrs Innes to help us to get there.

Next week we will be visiting the library on Thursday so remember to bring in cards and books that need to be returned.

P1m Visited the Police Station!

Today we walked down to Bathgate Police Station with PC Arnott.  He taught us how to cross the road safely and we learned the names of all of the different types of crossings.  Mrs Mooney was very proud of our behaviour and was delighted when someone commented to her on how well behaved we were.

We all got our photo take on the steps to the police station.

At the police station we got to try on PC Arnott’s hat and we got a shot in the police car and on the police bike.

Murray got to sit on the police bike!

Jack wants to be a police officer when he grows up and he even got the chance to try out the handcuffs!

Jack wanted to learn more about being a police officer...

PC Arnott told Mrs White how impressed he was with our super behaviour and so she gave us all a special sticker.  Thank you Mrs White!

P5m’s Wee Piece of Scotland

This week we have been thinking about all the places in Scotland that we consider to be important. They may be important because we have learned about them in our history topics, important events may have taken place there or they may be places we have visited with our families. We will include all of our locations on the Mega Map of Scotland we are creating to help guide us through our topic.

My Wee Piece of Scotland

Edinburgh,

Visiting lots of museums,

Exploring the old castle,

Spending time with my mum,

A place where I feel safe and happy,
