Lights! Camera! Action! Yes it is nearly showtime and we are all very excited!  We all have our costumes, props and know our lines.  Our dancing is amazing and well….so is our acting!  You are in for a great show and we are sure you are all going to enjoy it! We can guarantee some proud parents – so bring your tissues folks…….

We have been working on persuasive writing this week and have had to research and write an arguement for or against one of the following:

Are footballers paid too much?

Should Homework be banned?

Are Pop Stars good role models for children?

We had lots of interesting (and differing!) opinions which you can see in our jotters at our parent consultations.

Next week after the show we have the Hockey and Basketball Festival.  Please ensure you have returned your child’s EE2 or they won’t be able to leave school.

We are excited about our rehearsals moving to the Academy now and are gearing up for show time!  We can’t wait until the curtain comes up!

In maths we have been learning about Symmetry and mirroring each others shapes and actions – the only time we have been allowed to copy each other!

Hollywood came to 6B this week as we shot our movies.  We are having a Premiere before Easter where we will get to watch each others.

How tall were the dinosaurs?

Last week we have been linking our learning in maths to our new skills of finding out information.  We wanted to know how tall the dinosaurs were, so we asked our P6 buddies to help.  We had to look at posters to find the dinosaurs height.  We then asked our buddies how to measure in metres.  This picture shows how tall a brachiosaurs and a stegosaurus were.

Pod Squad

This week we were learning about the Chinese New Year which was on Monday. This is the year of the Monkey. We learned about how the different animals were chosen and we researched which animal year we were born in. Then we used the internet to find out our names in Mandarin and created some artwork using Chinese characters. Finally we learned about how chopsticks are used and had our own little chopstick challenge!

Pod Squad Blog!

IMG_3826

This week we had the first ever meeting of the Pod Squad. We meet every afternoon in the Pod. We are Jay, Greig, Paige, Freya, Jamie, Dyllan, Mrs Mallin and Mr Berginis.

This week we have focused on decorating the Pod (look at our cool Pod sign above) and getting to know each other.

Paige: “The Pod is the best place to be because you get more help and support and it helps you learn more stuff.”

Greig: “It helps with your learning because there’s not as many people to distract you.”

Freya: “The Pod is better for learning because there is less distraction and I can concentrate more.”

Jay: “It helps me to learn because there are no distractions and it is more fun.”

Mrs Mallin: “This week has been good fun getting to know the rest of the Pod Squad.”

Mr Berginis: “I have really enjoyed this week because we have started learning about how to work together as a team and we have had some successes already.”

Jamie and Dyllan are absent today but we look forward to them sharing their thoughts in next weeks blog post.

We also worked together to create our Pod Charter. This will help us identify the actions we need to do to make sure we all get our rights. Here it is below.

Movie Mania!

This week we started work on our movies.  We have been tasked as part of our Learning Across the Curriculum to make a five minute movie.  It is a critical skills challenge which involves lots of different learning.  We need to use our IT, Art, Writing, Maths and Co-operative Learning skills.

Viggo – I think they are going to be pretty good.

Aidan – I think we will learn skills for life.

Callum D – it is pretty fun learning!

Aaron – I like being on the netbooks typing it.

Maths this week carried on with mental maths and angles.

Brooke – In maths we have been using games to recall times tables, work out angles and improve all our mental maths skills.  It was really fun!

Jamie – We used compasses too and we were quite on point with it…..

James – there is no point to that joke Jamie!

Work is ongoing on our show and we are having a ball!  We are busy right now designing our scenery.

All in all we think life in P6 is pretty good!

Have a great weekend!

P6B

We looked at maths from a different  angle this week……in fact we learned how to measure and draw them!

It was pretty straight forward (oh dear!) James

From my angle it looked good (ooooh!)  Aaron

A cute (!) time was had by all!!

These jokes are quite obtuse…..Meadow.

We also went to the panto this week (Oh yes we did!). The pupils from Bathgate Academy entertained us with Jack and the Wrong Beanstalk.

It was awesome    – Brooke

The cow was moo-rvellous! -Valerija

We also learned some Scot’s language this week and learned our Scot’s Poems too.  Iona, Jack and Ryan were picked to go forward into the school competition.  Good Luck guys!

P6B

Even although it was a short week for us, there was still lots of learning going on!  We started our week with sharing our New Year Resolutions and vowed to try hard and stick with them. We had everything from eating more fruit, less sweets to improving even more in Maths!

Rehearsals are in full flow for our show this term and we are now rehearsing without our scripts – scary but fun!  We have some amazing singers in our class and can’t wait for March to come so that we can share it with you.

Finally just a wee rmeinder to return slips for our Curriculum Evening.

P6B

P6a

As part of our Learning Across The Curriculum we started to experiment with ‘strange’ chemicals to make new potions! This activity gave us lots of ideas to help us plan and write our own magical potions.

Some of our instrument players were involved in the school assembly. They were performing Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Greek Wedding.

We have also been looking at the Nativity story where we made storyboards that identified the key points.

We designed our own mythical creatures and created 3D models of them using clay. They will dry over the weekend and we can paint them next week.

In P.E. we have been doing Gymnastics and have focused on different skills each week.

We have had a really busy week and enjoyed our Christmas lunch and disco!

Primary 6A

P6B

A Huge thank you to everyone who came along to our assembly, we have been getting great feedback and we are very proud of ourselves!  Our challenge for next week is to upload our photos and video for you all to see…….

We hope you enjoyed seeing our mythical clay creatures that we brought home this week, and that you haven’t had a spell cast on you with our wands!

We had a great time at our Christmas disco and loved our ‘class circle’ dance at the end. We have Breakfast with Santa, a pantomime and church next week – what a busy time!

P6B

We have a classroom full of mythical creatures that are looking great after being painted. We have had a great time watching our creatures ‘come alive’ and are so proud of ourselves for creating them from our writing.

In maths this week we have been learning about division and although it looked pretty hard, when you know how to do it, it is easy!

We are looking forward to performing our assembly for you next week and are busy practising it.

-This week I liked doing my diary entry – Zoe

-I liked doing the work on description – Lucy

-I liked my harry Potter diary – Valerija

Looking forward to seeing you next week at our assembly!

Only two weeks until the holidays -HO HO HO!

Primary 6A

Throughout the week we had to design and create a parachute that would ensure an egg would survive a 2 metre drop. We were carrying out this investigation because we have been learning about friction. Unfortunately our parachutes weren’t very reliable and no egg survived!! We did however, have a cracking time!!! We also wrote newspaper articles about Harry Potter coming to Hogwarts and we stained them with tea to make them look like old scrolls. We designed our own front covers for the story Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone. The class had fun looking at the designs of the front cover for the book in other countries around the world.

P6B

We have been busy making our Christmas Stockings to sell at the Fayre tomorrow.  For some of us it was our first go at sewing and we learned how to do the blanket stitch. Look out for them tomorrow – no Christmas decor is complete without one!

In Science this week we looked at chemical reactions and found out what a catalyst is.  We looked at the Mentos/Cola experiment and found out why there is such a big fizz – feel free to ask us and we will explain how it works!

Finally we saw our mythical creatures from our writing come alive in 3D clay on Tuesday.  We had lots of fun sculpting our figures and can’t wait for them to dry so that we can paint them. Mrs Hay visited us in the middle of this and she was very impressed.

We are now gearing up for a busy couple of weeks in the run up to Christmas, with lots of different activities. Ho Ho HO!

p6b

Well we have been busy busy busy this week! First of all we were set challenges in maths by Tiny Tempah, Chipmonk and One Direction – and we certainly showed them!  We used a variety of strategies that we have been learning to solve the problems, and although Tiny Tempah had us thinking really hard, we certainly showed One Direction that maths is our direction, by solving their problems as a team!

In Technology this week we used iPads to help us design our 3D mythical creatures from our Writing.  We can’t wait to start sculpting our creatures to make our own scenes for Harry Potter.

This week also saw us auditioning for our school show, and by the time you read this we will know what parts we all have.

We also have  pupils in 6B on Step 4 and Step 5 in our Golden Club Challenge and as if that wasn’t enough we also got extra Golden Time for working super hard in class this week! Mrs Haddifon said everyone of us put in great effort and she is very proud of us all!

GO 6B!!
