P1b’s Learning Log

This week in Primary One we have been exploring the sounds ‘m’ and ‘c’.  We have been learning where these sounds are made in our mouths.  We associate ‘m’ with the colour red because we make that sound with our lips.  ‘C’ is yellow because it comes from our throat and we need a torch to see!  We have been practising forming these letters in lots of different ways.  This includes using paint, plasticine, pipe cleaners and whiteboards.

We have enjoyed eating our lunch in the dinner and have quickly learned the routine.  Here are some of the things we have learned:

 James-eat all your lunch.

Jaime-Lee- After you have eaten all of your lunch you can go out to play.

Mia- You need to line up to get a coloured band.

Denholm-You get coloured trays and you can eat a packed lunch there too.

Week 2 in P1m

We have really settled into school this week, and are making lots of new friends.

We have enjoyed singing phonics songs and following the actions.

We have practised writing the numbers 2 and 3 and have played counting and adding maths games.

We have met some of the other adults in the school and have found out about their jobs.  We have also investigated why people wear uniforms to work and school and designed some uniforms of our own.

We have visited the dinner hall in advance of starting school lunches next week, and are really looking forward to ordering school dinners and trying out our new lunch-boxes!

We are looking forward to full days in school next week.  🙂

Our first ever week at school :) (P1m)

It’s been a great first week in P1m.

We have been busy in our new classroom, singing songs, writing the numbers 0 and 1 and starting our My New School topic.

We are looking forward to another fun fill week next week.  🙂

Chelsea Flower Show by P1g and P6h

We had fun making a diorama with our P6 buddies! The buddies prepared a fact poster about the Chelsea Flower Show. We learned that the chelsea flower show gardens take 25 days to build and it is 500 London buses long. Also the winning flower was a Geranium.  We then had the challenge of making a garden diorama of our dream garden that could be entered into the show.  We had a variety of media to choose from, we made ponds, washing lines, apple trees, picnics and much more! It was so much fun working with the buddies! Some of our gardens even had moveable parts like see saws and windmills. Lastly,we had to write a ‘Did you know?’ caption to attach to our diorama. Look at the fun we had! Please feel free to look at our work on the school gallery!

Today we had great fun performing during our class assembly.   We did really well to remember our lines and sing the minibeast songs.  Miss Bollen is really proud of us.  Thank you to everyone who managed to come along-we hope you enjoyed it!

Primary 1g Illustrators

On Tuesday, Primary 1g worked with Miss Henderson on extending their skills in being book illustrators.  They started with a discussion about the Percy the Park Keeper stories and what the front cover picture told you about the title of each of the books.  They were given a blank book front cover with the title, The Hedgehog’s Balloon by Nick Bitterworth and had to become the illustrator of the front cover.  Everyone did really well and produced some lovely front covers.  Here are some examples of our work:

Buddies!

We have had a busy afternoon with the Primary 1 to make models and masks of mini-beasts for their assembly.  Some of the models using junk, plasticine and drew pictures.  We used lots of different to decorate out models.  We helped the primary 1 to use non-fiction books to find out facts, we read and the primary 1’s had to summarise.  This is what they said….

  • We learned how many legs a spider has.
  • Butterflies have lots of colours.
  • Caterpillars turn into butterflies.
  • We wrote questions about mini-beasts on a big leaf.
  • We learned facts about the mini-beasts so we can tell people at our assembly.  Our P6 buddies helped us.

Daniel M and Jessica were very impressed with Jake’s bumble bee.

New Learning in P1g

What a busy week we have had! We have been learning about the weather. We discussed wind direction and ways to record its movements and made fabulous wind socks. We then experimented with our wind socks out in the playground.

We also were pretending to be illustrators and illustrated our story predictions. We had to draw in the style of the book’s illustrator and make our picture look eye catching and detailed.

Have a lovely weekend!

We had fun going on a minibeast hunt in the school gardens! We found slugs, spiders, snails, worms, ants, butterflies, millipedes and woodlouse. We looked at these minibeasts under a magnifying glass as we learned it makes objects look bigger then we recorded our findings on a checklist.

We also perfomed  the song ‘Reach for the Stars’ for our Celebrating Success assembly. Well done to Charlie, Grace, Findlay and Emma who got a certificate. We enjoyed our family and friends coming to see us and Miss Goff said she was very proud of us!

We have been very responsible showing the new primary 1 children around our classroom and telling them what primary 1 is like.

P1b’s Pirate Party!

Last week, to conclude our Treasure island topic, we had a pirate party! During this we used icing pens to make bug biscuits and had the opportunity to taste a pirate drink.  We also dressed up and played pin the eye patch on the pirate.  Aaron and Arran both won ten points for their house!  In the gym hall, we played corners, completed a pirate obstacle course and played port and starboard. We really enjoyed our topic this term and look forward to beginning our Gardener’s World topic.
