Pupil of the week – Eve H

Table of the week – Supersmurfs

It’s been a really interesting week as we delved deeper into our topic. We have learned what chronological means and we are beginning to put together a timeline of events in the Scottish Wars of Independence. We made storyboards to show the killing of the Sheriff of Lanark and have them on display in our classroom.

Sasha – It was fun doing the storyboards. It was important to get the events in the right order.

Drama –                                                                                                                          We had great fun re-constructing the events which led to King John being imprisoned.

Mental maths update – We are getting much quicker with our recall. We have been playing multiplication and division snap this week and although we found it tricky we are getting the hang of it. The game wasn’t just about recalling our knowledge of the times tables, there were other things we had to be able to do to make the game successful –

Take turns

Have patience

Be polite

We have started reading Billionaire Boy this week.  We made revolting menus just like the ones in the book. We had to remind ourselves how to construct a menu before we did our writing. Hopefully we don’t ever see any of our menus on offer in the school dinner hall!

Have a good weekend !

P7M

Primary 7m have had a very busy week!

We had a visit from PC Arnott on Monday who reminded us how to stay safe online.

We watched Choices for Life on Wednesday morning and took part in a online discussion about the effects of alcohol and smoking. We all thought that the brown teeth, furry tongue and jar of flem were disgusting!

Miss Macintyre has been busy learning how to play the Gembi (A drum from West Africa) and taught her first drum lesson on Wednesday. The pupils all said that she did very well and have been asking every day when the next drum lesson is!

The House Captains have also been very busy this week judging house sheild entries and the winners were revealed at assembly. They will also be creating a power point to launch the new house point system for next Friday.

Next week we will be getting our sew on for the Christmas Fayre next Saturday. We will be sewing Chrismas Pudding tree or door decorations.

Cushion Clubs

Cushion Clubs  have been busy again this week getting ready for the Christmas Fayre. P1’s have made Holly Wreaths which will sell for £1.00 each and P3/2’s have made Christmas Tree Baubles selling at 70p each.

P1       Kye liked putting on snowflakes.

            Haley liked the reindeer stickers.

            Summer liked sticking things on.

P3/2    Kai liked making blue baubles.

              Aidan liked the sparkly bits.

David liked the ones with Holly leaves.

Cameron really liked the Holly Wreaths made by P1 Cushion Club.  This was a very nice thing to say.

What P2g have been learning this week

This week I have learned

“Octagons have 8 sides and 8 points.” Sophie

“Some new facts in BIG Maths.” Baillie

“About Braille in topic.” Jessica

“the ch sound.” Ben

This week I have enjoyed

“Drama with Mrs Innes.” Demi-Leigh

“BIG Maths beat that.” Ellie

“Feeling the Braille letters and making my name in Braille.” Emma

“Dance with Mrs Innes.” Liam

“Using the Braille machine.” Daniel

We were really lucky this week as Erin’s dad kindly brought in a Braille machine which allowed us to experiement with making Barille writing. It was really interesting and fun. We also made our names in Braille by sticking lentils onto paper.

Mrs Gallagher has been impressed by:

  • Ava C and Ben for excellent scores in their BIG Maths beat that challenge.
  • Aidan for excellent effort in instructional writing this week.
  • Emma for great knowledge about 2D shapes and their properties.
  • Demi-Leigh for great reading aloud and very good knowledge of key words.

Dates to remember:

Wednesday 27th November is our next Shared Start where parents and carers can join us in activities related to our senses.

Saturday 30th November is the Christmas Fayre. Please return permission slips if you have been chosen to help on our stall and money and order forms if you want to make a personalised decoration.

Thanks,

Mrs Gallagher

P3/2 Big Talk, Big Fun

Over the last 3 weeks we have been working on our talking skills using Big Talk, Big fun. We have been listening to some interesting sounds and discussing what is making the sound? Where the sound is coming from? Who is making the sound? and What we think is happening. We have also been looking at some interesting pictures and discussing what we see, what we think is happening and what we wonder will happen next. We have been looking at higher order questioning and coming up with some wonderful ideas and suggestions. Some of our suggestions have been very imaginative.  Ciaran thought that the people in one picture were angels who were visiting Disneyland Paris but had travelled froma  different century to do so. We have loved coming up with such imaginative ideas and using our language skills to tell our classmates about our ideas. Feel free to log onto www.takeonepicture.com and have a look at these pictures and let us know what you think is happening.

Horror in Class 3!

This week at writing time we wrote stories about a haunted house.  We were very excited about this because it was the pupils’ idea.  We had to remember our writing target  ‘use a variety of sentence openers’ when we were writing.

Geordie – My favourite sentence opener was ‘It was a dark and stormy night’.

Geordie also made his writing more exciting by beginning sentences with the words ‘Suddenly’ and ‘Immediately’ :).

Josh – I recorded my story on the iPad.  I liked doing it this way because it was more fun and I could get all my ideas out before I forgot them.

Cary’s story was called ‘Ghostbuster Mansion’. He had a big group of characters including most of his classmates! His story has zombies as well as ghosts in it. Cary is still working on his story. We hope it has a happy ending!

Our Star Writer this week was Callum. His story was titled ‘Callum’s Spooky Day’. He was  the main character in his story which was also set in a mansion. The mansion had lots of rooms, even a computer room and a science room. Oh and it had a ghost too!

Other news this week:

Geordie – I went to my integration school Westfield Primary early this week so I could go out at playtime.  I really liked it because I got to play with my friends.  I would like to go for playtime again next week.

Cushion Clubs

A busy week in Cushion Clubs with 2 new members in the P3/2 Club.  The P3/2 group made poppies and discussed the significance of the 11th of November.  The new P1 Club register when they come in with a Firework with their name on it. The stick this on a fluffy cloud or a dark cloud and tell the group how they are feeling and why. They enjoy sitting on the couches!

Helping Children in Need in P1m

Don't we look fantastic?

Mrs Mooney got a lovely surprise when we arrived in school today because we had all dressed up to raise money for Children in Need.

Luke came to school dressed up in a moshi monster onesie and he looked very bright!  Skye came as a spotty leopard and Lucy was a dalmation!  Spencer was a tiger and he even had tiger feet!

Thank you for all of the generous donations.

New Student in Class 2

In Class 2 we have a new pupil. He is called Jamie. He likes Minecraft PVZ.

This week we had Get Together in Class 2. Jamie knows our welcome song.  He sang it at his previous school. He did not know the actions but thinks it will not be long till he learn it.

Mr Jeffries’  P.E. lesson was outdoors this week. We had a new activity called kick cricket. We were getting quite good at it.

Writing this week we had to choose a favourite place in Scotland. The place had to be in Scotland because we are learning more about Scotland. We wrote about:

Jamie: KFC

Cody : the swing park

Caitlin : the swimming pool

Liam: M&D’s

Dylan:Glasgow Subway

Mrs Clark: Stirling Castle

For our Homelearning this week we each got a link to help us learn our multiplication tables

http://www.totally3rdgrade.com/multiply_by_two_easy_thing_to_do.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzVyBQ5uTbo

Jamie: I have enjoyed my first week at Balbardie.

Aiden and Cody : We worked together to make a large scone which we will share.

Caitlin : I don’t believe it. I got the Assembly Certificate. I got the certificate for trying hard to write a story about my favourite place in Scotland. I sounded out the words I did not know.

Liam: Plop is an owl. He likes the fireworks.

Dylan: Did you know that the subway trains in Glasgow make the same noise each time they close the doors?

P2g have been finding out about sight

We have been learning about the sense of sight. We have learned about the different parts of the eye and how they work. We thought about what it must be like to live without being able to see. We did a blindfold assault course in the dinner hall where a partner had to lead us around and through different obstacles. This helped us to understand how blind people might feel using their guide dogs. On the way back from the library today we were lucky enough to meet a lady who had a guide dog. She was very kind and stopped to talk to us about how her guide dog helps her. Here are some pictures from us doing the assault course and some of our thoughts about what we experienced:

“Doing the blindfold assault course was scary because I couldn’t see.” Ava C

“I didn’t feel safe when I couldn’t see.” Demi-Leigh

“It was hard to do the obstacles when you couldn’t see.” Jessica

“I liked seeing the guide dog and asking the lady questions about it.” Isla

Part of our homework for this week is to find out what Braille is and we will be doing some activities to do with this and the sense of touch.

P7m’s Week

Primary 7m have had a really fun and busy week.

P5d

Hi everyone!

This has  been a great week in p5d.

Pupil of the week – Shaun H

MVP – Josh C

We are beginning our new topic Scottish Wars of Independence.

Here are a few  facts we have learned already –

1314 was the Battle of Bannockburn – Sam

Margaret Maid of Norway was the grandaughter of King Alexander III -Sasha

The Battle of Falkirk was in 1298 – Jordan

We had a super time when Daniel Duggan from Infectious Grooves visited our class. We learned all about the new drums that we have in school and had a great workshop.

We did body rhythm exercises to warm up.

Here we are learning to play a polyrhythm – that’s when you play one rhythm over another.

Maths-

Loop Card update – We have a new record !!!! 1 minute 6 seconds and we are ecstatic ! Mr Welsh you need to pay us a visit and see how good we are.

Language –

We have had great fun drawing pictures of Gangsta Granny and writing about the kind of character we think she has. We are a little sad that we are almost at the end of the book.

Surprise of the week – The class teacher of P5 Falla Hill commented on last weeks blog post!!

This week in P2g

On Tuesday we went to Karate and enjoyed learning some of the basic moves from this sport. PC Arnott also came to visit us. He talked to us about how what we have been learning in Health (Being Cool in School programme) can also be used when we grow up. He told us how he uses the same principles as part of his job as a police officer. We liked hearing about ‘Happy hands,’ which tell people that you do not want them in your personal space without being aggressive or unkind.

We now have some people on step 3. Well done to Ellie, Breanna, Ava Wood, Evan, Daniel and Lucy. We hope that we will have some people ready to go into the Golden Club before Christmas and we are working hard on our listening and talking skills with both Mrs Gallagher and Mrs Innes to help us to get there.

Next week we will be visiting the library on Thursday so remember to bring in cards and books that need to be returned.

P1m Visited the Police Station!

Today we walked down to Bathgate Police Station with PC Arnott.  He taught us how to cross the road safely and we learned the names of all of the different types of crossings.  Mrs Mooney was very proud of our behaviour and was delighted when someone commented to her on how well behaved we were.

We all got our photo take on the steps to the police station.

At the police station we got to try on PC Arnott’s hat and we got a shot in the police car and on the police bike.

Murray got to sit on the police bike!

Jack wants to be a police officer when he grows up and he even got the chance to try out the handcuffs!

Jack wanted to learn more about being a police officer...

PC Arnott told Mrs White how impressed he was with our super behaviour and so she gave us all a special sticker.  Thank you Mrs White!

We’ve been busy in P3W!

Rights Respecting Schools

We had our first steering group meeting for Rights Respecting Schools on Wednesday 30th October. Thank you to the pupils, parents and friends of the school who managed to make it along to this meeting in their own time after school. Our next meeting will be during the school day.

Parents/carers, if you’d like to come along we would be happy to welcome you to join in with our RRS work. Watch this space for the date and time!

Could each RRS rep please post their name and class here so we can see who they are?

Mrs Spence would like to meet all the reps on Tuesday 19th November at 10am in the PT office.

Class 2

We have been looking at how to keep safe on the internet. If you want to know more here is a link for Hector’s World. http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/5_7/hectorsworld/
We started reading the owl who was afraid of the dark. Plop, the main character in the story, found out about fireworks so we also have been learning about fireworks. We used WOW words when we explained to Plop what we now know.
